I rarely have less than 60% battery left with an 8+ either at the end of the day. I wouldn’t say that’s an exciting features but it’s useful and not exclusive to the XR.
As an iPhone 6S user, this seems like a dream. I rarely have 60% left after a 35 minute commute. This is after a reset with no third party apps and a brand new battery. I never had any luck with my iPhone battery time but this is getting ridiculous. I know that upgrading to the newest iPhone will most likely fix the issue but do I really need to pay 1000+ euro to get an iPhone I don’t need to charge 3 times a day?

I don’t know details of your particular iPhone 6S but overall iPhones older than 3 years need to replace their battery. In your case specifically, it seems your battery is in bad shape. That has nothing to do with the iPhone model.

Besides replacing your battery, in order to have extended battery you can purchase a battery case or battery pack. If you can afford, purchasing a Plus model (ip7 plus or 8 plus) should give you a great boost.

As I wrote, I have just replaced the battery and it doesn't make any difference. So that was a waste of money. I'm definitely not convinced this is a hardware problem, but rather an issue with iOS or iCloud not syncing properly. So this issue could very well happen on a newer iPhone as well. Maybe it would be masked by the bigger battery and some other optimisation stuff in the newer models. Still, a drop of 30% battery in a half hour on an iPhone (erased and reset as a new iPhone with a brand new battery) is not normal. Even after Apple claiming they invested a lot in iOS12 and performance and battery gains for older models.

I just don't want to waste so much money if the newer model doesn't fix whatever is going on and my confidence in Apple is dropping at the same speed as my battery charge.

Hopefully you took advantage of Apple's battery replacement program.

iOS 12 improved performance on older devices.

If you are interested in improving your phone's performance, I would consider turning on everything in iCloud sync and then setting your phone up as new (without restoring from backup).

I agree with you regarding the relevance of the bezels for the iPad but not for the iPhone. Smaller bezels means a bigger display in relation to the the size of the whole phone. That means a better mobility which is a key feature for a phone. The resolution issue might be better understandable if you compare the resolution in point per inch (PPI). The Plus phones are having 401 PPI which are downsampled from a 3x rendering (which cost quality) and the Xr has 326 PPI. All these displays are "Retina" displays which means that with a normal viewing distance one cannot see pixels...

I also agree on the bezel sizes. Less bezel is always a better option. However, with the XR, we received more LCD display (not OLED) at a lower resolution for 50 dollars less. Now I am not debating how good the XR display is, because I believe it to be a real nice display. My contention is with the price. For the price apple is charging, we should have received a full 1080P LCD display. If that meant increasing the price by 50 dollars, to bring it in line with previous gen costs, then so be it. The Plus size phones had 1080P with 401 PPI, with premium biomtrics and dual camera. If 326PPI was good enough, why weren't the Plus sized phones released with 326PPI? To me the XR is like the first iPad Mini release. Retina displays were the norm, yet the first iPad mini was released with a sub par non HD display. Only to get the retina display one year after :)

If you were only buying a display, I would agree. However, with the exception of the telephoto camera, the internals of the Xr are largely the same as the Xs.

I agree, but I also expect the internals to improve year after year, as they always have. The display in the XR on paper is a downgrade. I am betting in 2019 we will see the XR release with a 1080P display with an increased price.

If you compare Xr to iPhone 8:
iPhone 8 ($699 had 1334-by-750-pixel resolution at 326 ppi.
iPhone Xr ($749) has 1792-by-828-pixel resolution at 326 ppi.

Also note that both phones have a 1400:1 contrast ratio

I don't see that as a downgrade to the screen, and the camera array for Face ID and larger display seem to justify they $50 difference in price.

The iPhone 8 Plus ($799) had a 1920-by-1080-pixel resolution at 401 ppi. It has a lower 1300:1 contrast ratio than both iPhone 8 and Xr.

I feel if iPhone 8 Plus was worth $100 more than iPhone 8, it makes a strong argument for the iPhone Xr being worth $50 more than iPhone 8.

That's what I did now. I did notice that my iPhone was already stuck in "Restoring from Backup" for 1 full week so I guess something went wrong there when restoring media. I now set it up as a new device and already noticed that Notes sync is also broken, displaying an endless spinning wheel while not downloading notes (even when I removed all my notes from iCloud on my Mac the problem remains). It's these things that indicate in what a poor shape iCloud (and iOS) still are.

I'll see how it goes overnight but I'm not holding my breath. But if an empty iPhone with no apps (and only iCloud sync) still drains battery, I don't know if there's any solutions available anymore.

Keep it charging and on wifi, and everything should sync up. Good luck.

I have a 6s with a newer battery. Battery life is the one downside of this phone. On the other hand it still feels fast 3 years later.

Was it worth mentioning :)

You can ask the same question about mentioning the 1080p stuff that might be a „ downgrade on paper“. What interest me more is the real life experience of the Xr, and that is great even compared to the 1080p 8+

Just send my 6 to Apple for the reduced battery replacement as it is still possible. It has only 78% capacity left and lasted until 5 PM when I was not using it too much.

Got now the Xr and that is a total other world! Never had an iPhone before that last 3 days without charging (with lighter usage). That alone is a reason to buy this phone (maybe the biggest one...)

Totally disagree. Again for the price, the display should have been 1080P. Otherwise the plus series would not have needed 1080P if 720P was good enough. In my opinion, The contrast ratio is not worth mentioning as The 7+ and 8+ have bright displays. And we are talking about 1000 nits. Hardly anything to really mention. But yes, the plus series had a lower contrast ratio. Comparing displays? I can tell the difference between the XR and 7/8+. Not many can, and that feeds the notion that 720p is good enough. And since we are talking about real world use, I wouldn't touch the XR no matter how cheap it was. OLED is vastly superior. Again, not saying the XR has a poor display.

You are talking the whole time about the 7/8+ which had no OLED....So that is not the comparison. I didn’t see that much of a difference between the 8+ and the Xr display quality but a see lots of differences in other areas...

I have always been comparing the XR to the 7/8+. The XR does not have an OLED display.

Good is good enough I guess :)

Getting back on topic, no I do not believe the XR has flopped. Certainly not selling as well as apple would hope for, but not a flop.

My 6S was showing battery capacity of 82% but since 12.1 now seems to have improved back to 88%, no idea why, so I have held off my upgrade to the XR for now and will look for bargains if any next year. Meanwhile agree that performance at least on 12.1 is reasonably good for a 3 year old phone.

Seems that what you’re saying about the XR display, just worded differently. I don’t think the consumer even knows, or Cares between the differences of LCD and OLED. Interestingly enough, there have been plenty of members who have said they really can’t even differentiate the differences between the XR and XS display. And these are more tech oriented members than most consumers are, so what does that tell you that a consumer would think between LCD and OLED? Likely that they don’t care at all what OLED even offers in the first place. OLED has its benefits, but ‘Vastly superior’ seems a bit overstated depending on the individuals perception on both displays.
