As someone who is leaning towards getting an XR next week, part of what was said here is worrying. Do you think that these circuit board troubles are a widespread issue or not a giant deal overall?

In other words, should I put off getting an XR for a while?

Oh come on man get a grip there’s no evidence this is even real. Just buy and enjoy your purchase. In the extremely rare instance it’s faulty apple will replace for free.

It’s too early for that.

The XR will probably sell big during Black Friday & Christmas. At least see how it does during the two biggest sale months out of the year.

I don't think it is a flop, but I don't think it is selling like Apple envisioned either, and I certainly don't think it will outsell the XS Max.

Way too early to tell. It’s only been out for a few weeks.
If the reports are true, it wasn't too early for Apple to kill production quotas.

You are using this word, “bargain”, but I don’t think you understand it’s meaning.
I've understood the definition decades longer than you have.

Lastly, the XR comes with a single, 12-megapixel rear camera, while the XS and XS Max come with a dual rear camera.
Not lastly as you say,it's not all about the camera AND $250 more.Move along.

It will be their biggest seller in their history.

The XR has already outsold the Max. The real question is whether XR will outsell the Xs and Max combined moving forward. There are strong indications it will.

- iPhone Xs and Max had a 30 day head start to soak up the pent-up demand since late 2017. Yet, the XR still sold 9 million units on launch vs. 10 million combined for Xs and Max.

- XR buyers are not in the pre-order or launch day demographic. They're coming from iPhone 6/7 and can wait for carrier offers and word of mouth testimonials.

- All major carriers, whether it's AT&T, T-Mobile, or China Mobile are pushing iPhone XR, while Apple has reverted focus on the Xs and Max.

Nikkei doesn't have the best track record and Supply chain numbers have failed to predict apple sales numbers in the past.

not everything you read on the internet is true.

With that said.....take this response with a grain of salt

I’ve seen multiple reports online about Apple telling suppliers to cut back on production. Is it too early to call the iPhone XR flop for Apple?
A flop?

Look at it this way. If the XR had existed 30 years ago, people would have taken a second mortgage out to buy one. And there was a time when the owner of an XR would have been burned at the stake for being a witch. Don't forget that sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.

I do think that Apple over-hyped the XR, as I've written about here before. That led to higher expectations for it than might be reasonable. But the XR is an outstanding phone. I think the XR is a better smartphone than the new Mac Air is a laptop. Now, that should get the Airophiles excited, but I really like the new Air.

Just wait until Christmas to see how much of a flop the XR is.

Who cares?

Multiple stores are slated to have discounts on the XR for Black Friday.

1. It didn't sell out when it went up for pre-orders, unlike previous new model iPhones.
2. We have the reports of production being cut.
3. Apple have decided not to report iPhone sales for the first quarter the XR sales would have come out.
4. Just my observation, but I was in the store on the Friday it released getting something else and no one was interested in the new iPhone XR

I think it flopped.

I was also in an Apple store that day, and there were quite a few people looking at the XR. I don't know how many bought one (we did) but there was some very good interest there. Not a mob, no. But people were busy buying lots of other Apple things, too. Looked like a good business day for Apple.

Anyway, I find it hard to believe that "no one was interested in the new iPhone XR". No one? Not one person? You did a nose count, did you?
