Anyway, I find it hard to believe that "no one was interested in the new iPhone XR". No one? Not one person? You did a nose count, did you?
I saw a couple of people look at them briefly and then continue walking. 30 minutes before closing. In any case, I marked that as just my observation. The other 3 points are stronger indicators for sure

Personally I hope the XR flops and Apple would learn its lesson with this kind of cheaper iPhone release rather than just selling the premium phone of last year.

I strongly believe people would much prefer buy the last year premium phone than a "budget" one with some feature removed. If the iPhone X from last year were still there with a discount, I'm sure they'd sell better than the XR.

Well, the X is still available from a number of sources, at least here in the US. As for preference...certainly, some would choose the X, others the XR. There have been threads on this forum comparing the value of last year’s X vs this year’s XR. And clearly, each model has its fans. But overall - I have to believe the sales numbers for the XR will crush the X...and the XS. Maybe Macrumors members would mostly vote X (I don’t know), but once you consider all the non-techie folks itching to buy a shiny new iPhone at the lowest possible price point...I don’t think it will even be close.

Calling the XR a flop at this stage is totally premature and utterly ridiculous.

I can’t help but think that the 7 and 8 will cut into the XR due to their lower costs. The are a good many iPhone choices at present. I suspect Apple knows what they are doing. Time will tell. Personally, I don’t see myself playing $1000+ for a phone any time soon.

Did you do a poll? Look around you, you are the only one who things a $750 crippled phone is a "bargain".
Crippled-LOL! You simply don't understand what differentiates the difference in specs and price difference and obvious to most of us what a bargain means.

Learn a lesson you say? I'm sure Apple knows far more about what folks want than you do. There is no way the 10R is a budget phone. And you are very wrong in your assumptions about being "sure".

It is the very reason that Apple keeps the 7 and 8 line of phones... pricing because basically at almost any price point someone can get an iPhone! I don't really think Apple cares which you get as long as you get one of them, because margins are high on all of them. I agree with you on the 1000+ phones, but it seems that many deem them worthy, but I am glad for the XR (you know the bargain/crippled version).

And those who choose the 7 or 8 will be wishing Apple would offer an update, but alas, their 7 or 8 is too old for that in the not too distant future,iPhone-wise.

Are we gonna repeat the same mistake we did with the X? Will we finally realize that only official Apple reports are valid indicator of if it "flopped" or not, not meaningless things like this?

You know we always have these geniuses on this forum that think they know better than Apple, so some things never change! I think it's hilarious myself because time after time they are proven wrong. There is not a company in the world that wouldn't like to sell as many of these flop phones as Apple will sell. LOL

Me to I have really enjoyed using the Xr for the last two weeks. Today was my 14th day and it passed by with no regret whatsoever! Battery life.. what are you talking bout... it's fantastic!

I suspect you’re partially right, especially with the iPhone 8 still being extremely competitive in terms of what is offering with true tone, wireless charging, stereo speakers, same water resistance, dual camera etc. (But obviously lacks the True Depth camera and Face ID/new form factor). I’m curious to see if Apple discontinues the 8 in Fall 2019.

Right. I was pointing out why the XR may not (if indeed it is not) meeting projected sales. For the budget minded, and I am one of them, there remain fine alternatives that provide the iOS experience and cost even less than the XR. To many, I suspect, they view the XR as I do the XS and Max, nice but unnecessary.

Here is the cold hard truth. And I will preface that I think $1000+ (Xs base model is like $1082 here with tax) is astronomical. It’s a phone, but to many, it is their whole life. The phone and social media apps that serve narcissistic personality disorders, are like gas and a lighter. It’s the uniting of the two things that are turning so many into phone zombies. I mean I’ve read the android vs. iPhone phone wars stuff for many many years now, but now people are eating their own. Wow. Instead of “disc wars” every time I see this I say aloud “Phone Wars!”

So back to my point. The phones are getting expensive because the super-users (some would say the addicts) keep demanding more out of them. I watched a review the other day from a you-boober who is into photography, big time, state he wants a triple optic camera on it. People like that want the iPhone to turn into a Canon or Nikon. That means an increase in price. Others want insane processing power in their phone, on the level of a solid laptop or desktop now. Others a 4K screen so they can watch movies (why do you even want to watch a film on a telephone?). I will never get this because it’s a small screen and films are meant for the big screen or at least a large display at home. And you know what? A nice 4K HDR flatscreen costs less than your damn phone now. That’s crazy. Better screen, higher resolution, more money. Others want quality audio speakers out of a telephone. I don’t need to go on do I? You get the point. More and more demands equal more and more money. I think the prices suck and are too expensive, but apparently I’m in the minority. I don’t need a triple optic camera, an OLED screen, or a larger and larger phone. And I certainly don’t want to pay for things I’m not going to use or utilize.

I get the hate that their isn’t a smaller new phone from Apple. There are enough people between the SE and 5/6/7 users to indicate a smaller XR would be their solution. But again, the addicted control the market as they are being catered to for dollars. They all want huge phones. But what is so bad about the XR? Seems to me they stripped it of a few things to make it less expensive. It offers an awful lot and is it so much more expensive than the 8, the 7, etc? Myself I’d love a smaller version of it but that ain’t happening. And that won’t happen in 2019 either if early reports of all the same sizes being on the books for next year. But it’s a solid phone, with an excellent LCD screen and a size many like because it’s in between the Xs and Max. I wouldn’t call it a budget phone or crippled, it’s middle ground for less money. I’d say it’s the best value in their current lineup if you want things like FaceID, wireless charging, and processing power/speed. It also has the best battery life. You know why? Because it doesn’t have an OLED screen. If it did, battery life wouldn’t be so good. Many of the XR owners are praising the battery life. For some it’s their first iPhone that is a 2 day phone. And battery life is more important to them than OLED or a fancy camera. Others just like the price point better. I wonder if all this has gotten to the point where a stranger is going to walk up to a XR owner and get in their face that their phone is crippled or from the bargain bin. :D

Now that, my friend, is a rant that probably communicates what a lot of us are thinking, to one degree or another. :)

Not sure what's dumber, your post or the fact that someone liked it.
Keep it civil. It’s ok to disagree, but don’t call people dumb.

I don’t understand. Why wars and why would you judge a stranger’s choice of phone?

For me is all about judging the phones themselves. I have an 8+, an X, XR, and XS-Max.

IMHO the most well balanced one is the 8+, but after using the X<x> the bezels start to look too old fashioned and waste of space.

XR is purposefully cripple, like Canon cripples low-end cameras to not eat into high end profits. It’s marketing and sales tricks that I hate.

The Max is stupidly expensive for no reason and has the inferior to my opinion OLED.

X is again expensive, and the display is pure garbage. But I like the size & screen estate combination.

I don’t care what other people bought. These are my opinions about *my* phones.

Are you under some impression that this forum is a valid representation of what the general public thinks? It's 99% technophiles who couldn't imagine owning anything but the best. This forum is a bubble that in no way represents the real world. Most people don't think this phone is crippled and they'd laugh at you for suggesting it is. They make their small monthly payment and don't even consider the full price, so it's pretty much a bargain. Even if they did pay full price, it's only 50 bucks more than the 8 was with a bigger screen, face ID, more RAM, better camera and the fastest processor in a smart phone. Comparatively speaking, it's quite a bargain.

I think that it is probably still too early to tell if it is a flop or not. While it’s not flying off of shelves, it’ll be a few months to see if consumers are buying it or rejecting it or not. Probably after the holidays and the springtime is when we’ll actually have an idea.

If it is a flop then a price reduction is probably the best bet as well as adding 3D Touch. I’m not sure if that would mean a price reduction for the XS and XS Max though since it appears they are selling pretty well.

Many do not agree with you. Sorry it is not a crippled phone. Real world, many, including myself, state the LCD display is so good, content on it and the X/Max there is so little difference it’s real world insignificant. No PWM flicker to deal with so no eye strain or headaches. Great size for those who don’t want small phones. Extended battery life. And then with many, myself included, we don’t care about the 3D Touch. I honestly think many are happy with the XR product because it’s everything they want or need without a $1k+ price tag. Someone else nailed it on here. There is an iPhone for most. 7, 8, XR, Xs, Max. All with different price points. If none of those work for you, and you’re upset, maybe some life evaluation is due if your life revolves around a phone this much. The people I get, that have a legitimate gripe, are SE users. Anyone else, I’m saying meh.

I’m ordering a XR to test myself, in Valentino Rossi yellow. I tested another carrier last week (Spectrum Mobile) as I’ve been with ATTWS for almost 20 years straight and Spectrum’s monthly service cost is excellent. I found out that they are rate limiting and their ISP routers are in Kansas which causes latency and bandwidth restrictions. So when I ported my number back to ATT and let them know my concerns they made me a hell of a deal on a new phone. A significant amount of money off a new phone that when I sell my 7 it’s a wash, the upgrade will cost me less than $100. My employer requires me to have a smartphone, and install multiple work apps. And part of their apps being on my phone means my passcode is very elaborate, like a banking password. That means when I need to type it in on the on screen keyboard I fat finger it a lot. Special characters, upper and lower case, numbers, I mean the gamut of difficulty. I use gloves every single day for one activity or another. That means Face ID is way more convenient and I’ve wanted it since they came out with it for this reason. Carrier offered me a huge discount on a new phone, and there was a $350 difference between the XR 128gb, and the Xs with 256gb being I want 128gb and the Xs doesn’t offer it. I am a small phone preference person. I would much prefer to have a 5 to 5.5” screen XR for size/weight reasons but they do not offer it and what sealed the deal for me is early reports for the 2019 phones appear to all be the same sizing. Then add to that 5G LTE components are not expected to be in the phones until 2020. So given I can’t get what I want, a XR mini or whatever you want to call it, I’m getting a XR, will evaluate for a week (done the same thing this week on a new 12.9 IPP which I am keeping), and make a decision. The XS/max does not interest me. I don’t like the price points, don’t care for OLED on a phone and the possible eye issues, nor the cellular issues with those phones, so the XR isn’t the best by any means but it’s the best choice for me out of their current lineup. But I am honest and will tell you without my carrier offering a killer deal I’d be keeping my 7.

There is no point to arguing what most people think because we don't know.

Most people don't think this phone is crippled and they'd laugh at you for suggesting it is.

Keep it civil.

bigger screen, face ID, more RAM, better camera and the fastest processor in a smart phone.

Screen is taller but narrower. I would hardly call it bigger. In fact for all practical purposed (reading and watching videos) is smaller. You can see that the font is smaller than 8+. Also PPI is lower.

FaceID just replaced TouchID

More RAM faster CPU is just technology moving ahead. Nothing to do with price. My laptop has about 32,000x more memory than my first PC. Doesn't mean it's 32,000x more expensive. Actually it's cheaper.

Camera, 1 vs 2. And again it's only better because of technology progressing. If anything the omission of 1 camera should make it cheaper.

It's fine if you think it's bargain. But for the objective reasons I state above, I don't think it is.

FaceID just replaced TouchID.

What’s your point? Face ID is actually considered more reliable then touch ID in terms of unlocking, is the _only_ form of biometric security that uses 3-D facial mapping. One of the biggest transitions from the previous iPhone generations is Face ID To the new form factor.
