What’s your point? Face ID is actually considered more reliable then touch ID in terms of unlocking, is the _only_ form of biometric security that uses 3-D facial mapping. One of the biggest transitions from the previous iPhone generations is Face ID To the new form factor.

You just get one sentence out of a while reply and ask me what my point is? Read the full reply and you will understand my point.

I did. But more specifically, you said “Face ID just replaced Touch ID”. What does that have anything to do with the context in terms of biometric security? What exactly are you indicating? To be honest, your post isn’t very clear specifically what you’re referring to, and I’m not following your argument in response to the other member you quoted. Your pair just comes off as being more dismissive to the technology/XR versus offering a substantial argument.

I was replying to a post that was comparing the price-point of 8Plus with that of XR.

I’ve seen multiple reports online about Apple telling suppliers to cut back on production. Is it too early to call the iPhone XR flop for Apple?

The XR will be a big seller this holiday season. The days of a phone selling like crazy are over. Apple knows the price range will sell a lot of XR units in the year to come. It will be their “meat and potatoes” seller.

Definitely too early for that. Very solid phone and a lot of users that I know whom own the phone, love it. From what I’ve read it seems like Apple has cut back on production temporarily due to some issues regarding quality control with the XR’s circuit boards.

My iPhone 6 plus from 2014 has better screen resolution ( 1920 x 1080 pixels) than the Xr (1,792x828)

I am impressed how Apple products barely age.

The screen resolution on the XR is not good. But just don't use the 6 Plus to compare with it. The spec of the 6 Plus only barely supports that resolution. It was so slow.

I'd have to agree with this. Iphone XR is, and will for the following 10 months be, the Iphone people who don't care that much about phones will buy.

"Why would I buy this smaller/larger phone that costs several hundred dollars more but looks exactly the same?"

"Those screens look the same to me"

"OOOhh it even comes in *insert color here*"

People should realize that 99% of the people buying a new iPhone do not even know what MacRumors is. They just walk in or shop on the Apple site and buy what their finances allow. They do not know the difference from a LCD screen to an OLED. They will love the pretty novel colors and walk out happy as hell!

It is US that are not normal and are the exception. But we are a very small piece of the puzzle.

I would hope it would flop. It's a pointless device.

Anyone that wants to buy a new phone will buy the XS.

Those that can't afford the XS are better off buying a used X or a 7/8 for $500 or less...... I mean seriously if you're spending $800+ on a new phone, it's not that much more for the XS.

The screen resolution on the XR is not good.

Generally curious, do you think the average consumer is able to differentiate the ‘screen resolution’, or even let alone what screen resolution is? If you’re graduating from an iPhone 6s/7 or even 8, the XR display will still look just as vibrant, and as you can see from other users in this thread, some not able to differentiate the differences between OLED and LCD.

And some of us just don't see the difference as worth the extra $250 to $350 (and more if you want more than 64GB storage) for the XS and XS Max. Others do, and that's fine, but to denigrate the XR (definitely not referring to you, RP) is really daft, in my opinion as well as just about every review I've read or watched.

Hi there, I am quite sure it’s not a pointless device for me. Coming from an 8+, my personal experience tells me it is indeed an upgrade on certain aspects.

Such as the size of the phone with a decent size 6.1inch screen(easier to handle as compared to 8+). The convenience of FaceId, the edge to edge display(immersive viewing experience albeit with lower PPI). Slightly better camera for me.

As someone who changes an iPhone every year, I am put off by the prices of X(last year) & XS Max(this year), thus I chose to spend on the XR instead. So the pricing strategy is working for Apple for someone like me

General consumer knows this has a lower resolution screen. Why would us assume that most consumers are uninformed? They will get their information about the product before buying.

And why exactly is that? You do realize that me claiming that people who don’t care about phones will see the XR as their best option, does not imply that I also mean it would be a bad option for people who do care about phones? Heck, some prefer the LCD, the aluminium frame, the colors, the size and so on, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. Would it be a bit tinier and come with 4gb of ram, I probably would have bought one myself, instead of the XS.

There is no need to be so defensive, and certainly not for condescending messages that provide no additional value to the discussion.

I can understand that someone will buy an XR coming from a 6 or even a 6s phone, but upgrading to the XR from just last year 8+ is not a good value at all from my perspective. Why upgrading one year later only to not chose the real flagship phone? I still believe the 8+ is a better value than the XR. If I had to chose between the two, I'd buy the 8+. Performance is almost the same, better display, 3D touch and touch ID.

Why is that, you ask? Because it's an absurd statement. And 2nd,I'm certainly not being defensive, simply laughing at your absurd statement. And lastly,I certainly was not being condescending just because your feelings are hurt because some of us disagree. And lastly x2,every post I make has value. The fact that you don't think so adds credence.

So, you’re staying the average consumer can easily tell me or you the differences between an 828 P display versus 1080? Or what Liquid Retina is versus OLED? General, ‘everyday’ Consumers have no idea on those differences, my point is, let’s not be so dismissive of the XR display as you put it “The screen resolution on the XR is not good”, when consumers will see the new form factor and Face ID, and the XR resolution is perfectly suited for those upgrading from a lower model iPhone.
