Yes and I highly suggest you buy it. These screens are extremely advanced and in all likelihood any damage to the screen will result in a completely ruined iPad. I wouldn't want to risk dropping the iPad and losing out on $550 (after tax).
iPad uncovered repair runs $269, so it's not as bad as you stated.

nope, i don't plan on keeping it for more than a year, so it's not necessary :) i do the yearly resell thing, and have no intentions on stopping.

I did just like I did with my 4S. Recently I had some water spill on my shirt pocket where my iPhone was. Initially the speaker would not work but after everything dried out my phone was working again. Of course, the water sensor in the headphone jack has been tripped so warranty service will not be possible but luckily I can get another phone for $49 if it does stop working. I just prefer to have piece of mind.

I don't think that there is a LSI in the iPad 3, there wasn't in the iPad 2.

I didn't but I will. So far I've bought an iPad every year, but I'm planning to keep this one for two years -- retina was what I was waiting for. :)

Didn't want to plunk down the extra $100 when I was already spending $900 this month, so I'm going to pick it up next month. Does anyone know - do you only have 30 days to buy it, or can you get it anytime within the next year?

Website says 30 days with a genius appt to check out the device for eligibility.

If the one on the bottom is still white just take it in and it won't go against your apple care

I like the sound of this insurance package, but although there is an option to purchase Apple Care on the UK Apple web store, I cannot find the Apple Care + referred to in this thread. Is it only available in the US, or can we get it in the UK?

Did you buy apple care for previous iPads? Did you have to use it?

$270 - $100-$50 = $120 saved.

This is weird. I was told that you could buy it after 30 days if a Genius checks out your iPad, and buy it within 30 days without a check, but the website says:

AppleCare+ must be purchased within 30 days of the date you bought your new iPad. If you did not purchase AppleCare+ with your iPad, you may purchase it at an Apple Retail Store. To buy AppleCare+ at an Apple Retail Store, a Genius will first need to verify your iPad purchase date and confirm that your iPad has no pre-existing damage. Schedule a Genius Bar appointment.

I won't be anywhere near an Apple store within the next 30 days, but I was planning on buying it when I went home in a few months. Think if I call Applecare Support tomorrow they can tack it on, since I'll call before it is delivered?

I think I had read a few days ago that someone else called and they told them to call on the 16th (tomorrow) and they could add it on without it having to be taken to an Apple Store. I need to do the same thing. Though I won't mind if I have to drive out sometime within the next few weeks.

Call 1-800-APL-CARE tomorrow

This, I called Applecare earlier this week and they said so long as you call on Friday you wouldn't have to take it to a store. Apparently this call was noted in my account with my iPad serial number that I gave them from my invoice.

It kinda makes sense.. look at the last bullet point, it doesn't say you need to do more than call, its giving you 3 options on how to enroll is more what it looks like.

I would call tomorrow once you get the iPad just to be safe. No way I'm going anywhere near a Apple Store for a while, its going to be a zoo.

How to get AppleCare+

  • Pre-order the new iPad and add AppleCare+ to your cart during the checkout process.
  • Buy it within 30 days of your iPad purchase (available March 16):
At an Apple Retail Store (requires a Genius Bar appointment, inspection of the iPad, and proof of purchase).
  • By calling 1-800-275-2273 (requires proof of purchase).

I didn't but I plan on it..I have very bad luck with electronics..I managed to go through 4 IPODS in 6 months...and I had issues with my MBAIR within months of purchase. So since it covers accidental damage and other little hands will be on it...I think it's worth it. Only because of the accidental damage otherwise it's a rip off. I just wish you could buy it after the first year like Apple Care instead of within 30 days.
Then again Apple Care doesn't cover accidental damage. Oh well...

Plus I'm keeping this bad boy until the screen dies...which is hopefully never.:D

I called this morning. They told me to go to the store to add the applecare+.
Anyone else with any luck adding on the phone vs going to the store?

Though I'm careful, I got it just the same. Peace of mind. Have a friend that keeps are dropping things, but she has the iPad 2 without drops and spills coverage from another insurance carrier. I bet she will need it someday

Apple Care for less at other retailers

I didn't purchase Apple Care with my pre-order and was planning on picking it up within the next 30 days. I noticed however that Apple Care for iPad is available at Walmart for cheeper then the $100 and also on Amazon. Can any of those be purchased and then brought into the Apple Store before activating?

2 years warranty in the EU, and my home contents cover insures against accidental damage. So No, didn't bother with Applecare+

Answering my own question

The AppleCare from Walmart/Amazon is not AppleCare PLUS. Doesn't have the same coverage.

I bought Applecare for my iPhone 4 because I use it for business and I have to have a working phone at all times!

I never bought AC for my iPad 1/2 but I did for the 3. I usually sell them yearly to buy the new model but with the Retina Display and LTE I'm going to hang onto this one for at least 2 years so I figured the extra warranty may come in handy, especially with accidental damage coverage.
