I called this morning. They told me to go to the store to add the applecare+.
Anyone else with any luck adding on the phone vs going to the store?

I'm in California...I called AppleCare at about 7 AM local time this morning; gave them my serial number (I purchased my iPad 3 from Best Buy yesterday morning), and they quickly took my credit card information, and activated my AppleCare + coverage.

Very easy.

I bought it. I figure $99 isn't that much more than a good case. I prefer to use it without the bulk. good deal for me

AppleCare at local Apple Store

i received my iPad on Friday! Upgraded from original. I am very happy. But, I had to go to Apple Store in order to purchase AppleCare +. The " genius"had to confirm that my brand new iPad was not damaged, before selling me the warranty. Now it has been 12 hours and I have not received a confirmation email. I made sure to get a receipt before leaving the store. I am not happy with the process. Wish we could return to the old days do ordering online.

I bought it. With the $829 price tag for my 64gb LTE iPad and the travel I have to do the next year, it was the best option for me. $49 should anything happen is good news.

Nah, I'll take my chances. There's a reason warranties are very profitable for companies. You remember the time you needed it, but not all the other times you spent money on it.

Insurance makes sense for catastrophic losses. Although iPads are expensive, it's still relatively small. Just my two cents.

I did just for the peace of mind. $100 isn't that much and knowing that I can walk into any Apple Store with a shattered iPad and walk out with a brand new sealed in box replacement is worth it to me.

YMMV.

Now that I've thought about AppleCare+, I may end up buying the plan. I believe that in CA and some states, you can get a pro-rated refund on warranty plans if you cancel it. So I can protect my investment for about a year for roughly $50 then cancel it before selling it or sell it with the plan for more. Hmm... 28 days and counting.

Edited: just took a look at the terms and it says you can cancel it for a pro-rated refund unless prohibited by local laws... Also one-time permanent transfer of the plan.

I got something better than AppleCare+ it's called an Otterbox Defender. I do a yearly upgrade anyway.

I went back and got it today. Im feeling like this new ipad is a keeper and will be in familiy for a bit. So worth it to me.
