i received my iPad on Friday! Upgraded from original. I am very happy. But, I had to go to Apple Store in order to purchase AppleCare +. The " genius"had to confirm that my brand new iPad was not damaged, before selling me the warranty. Now it has been 12 hours and I have not received a confirmation email. I made sure to get a receipt before leaving the store. I am not happy with the process. Wish we could return to the old days do ordering online.

I was asked today if I wanted the confirmation via email or snail mail. I opted for email and the rep said that the confirmation emails would be sent out on Monday...One popped into my box only minutes after we hung up...

Maybe your Genius opted for you to receive it via snail mail.

I agree. I was just making sure that you weren't misinformed.

:D

While I didn't specifically ask if the replacements would be new or refurbs, the employee I talked to sure gave the impression that they would be new. As we agree, Apple refurbs might as well be new for as good as they look, but to some it would make them blow a gasket.

Did you buy apple care for previous iPads? Did you have to use it?

It's not really saved unless you break the iPad and need the replacement. Actually, you waste the $100 for AppleCare if you end up not needing it.

I can't believe more people don't think this is important. People are spending $100 out of pocket for sure, just to hedge their bet of possibly spending $120 more if you need to replace it out side of the normal warranty. And in my mind, that's a big "if". Now if the full purchase price of the 64GB/4G iPad of $829 was what you'd have to pay, I'd probably go for it too. But with the reduced replacement cost, even if out of warranty, it doesn't seem necessary.

If theft/loss coverage was included, that would also alter my decision.

Apple Care +

I still have several weeks to decide if I want it. While some buy bulky cases I bought a bulky sleeve for extreme protection, so I am debating not getting it.

I didn't purchase Apple Care with my pre-order and was planning on picking it up within the next 30 days. I noticed however that Apple Care for iPad is available at Walmart for cheeper then the $100 and also on Amazon. Can any of those be purchased and then brought into the Apple Store before activating?

Provide a link because AC+ is not suppose to be available anywhere else.

I got something better than AppleCare+ it's called an Otterbox Defender. I do a yearly upgrade anyway.

Most of use buy the AC+ so we don't have to put our iPads in big bulky cases.
Otterbox is not better its just what you like/want.

This always the decision process. Come to terms with the fact that some people want to feel comfortable being mobile with the device. They buy the AC+ for that reason. Others have kids and we all know there that leads. Finally, Apple is often very generous to folks with the AC so we just want an extra year of that.

Your choice is to go without...I have to money to not and I don't mind spending it. Isn't this not why Apple is the largest company in the world. There are tons and tons of foolish people who will overspend on Apple, cause they can.

Yep. I'm in the "would rather have it and not need it" camp. I also don't intend to do the yearly resell, and so far the Smart cover and a homemade sleeve are the only cases I have that I don't have any issues with. I'm a student, and accidents happen. XD

I might get it, in not planing to put this bad boy in any case, only the smart cover so think it would be wise for me to get it. My first gen iPad was in that black apple cover , it was enough to protect the original iPad... But with the smart cover the back is all out and can be damaged easily. 99$ for 2 years I think it's worth it.

If the next iPad doesn't bring too much to the table (I don't see them adding a new screen) then I might buy it towards the end of my warranty. I am seriously considering the yearly upgrade thing, though.

You only have 30 days after you buy the iPad to get AppleCare+.

I bought it simply because to have peace of mind. It may be a waste of money after the two years, but if I do need it, it is a lot cheaper to pay $49 than $299......

OH. In that case then no. :p

I went ahead and called to add it yesterday. With LTE, I will probably have it out and about more often than my old iPad ( which was wireless only). I like cases, but I don't want a big, bulky case, so I decided to add it.

It's weird. One site says any time during the 1st year you can purchase it. But on iPad specific FAQ it says 30 days. I'd be cautious & go with 30 days if anyone is getting it.

I think because the new AppleCare+ covers accidental it's 30 days, ifs it normal coverage like the warranty then you have the first year for things like computers.

I was on the fence and didn't get it because I found out it wouldn't be brand new replacements, that fact tilted for me to not get it.

But what the difference between refurbished vs. remanufactured. No difference? In the past, I've bought items at a discount that have been returned as defects, supposedly repaired, but after a while it didn't work probably because the technician didn't repair all the defects.

I also heard the AppleCare+ replacements have brand new screen and back plate (all outside components are new), but the inside comes from returned iPads.

I agree. I was just making sure that you weren't misinformed.

Apple refurbs are pretty perfect, and all the outside components are brand new. There is effectively no difference except in resale value later on.

So Squaretrade now offers 3 years, and its $109 right now with the Facebook special. If you figure $36.33/year, maybe Squaretrade would be the way to go. If its true about being able to get a prorated refund at any time you can get a year of coverage, get $72.66 back if you upgrade to the next iPad in a year.

I take care of most of my electronics so not to worried about dropping it or any damage
