Phone itself is also always actively listening to devices. Doesn't matter you turned your AirPods off. Your neighbors haven't.
This is not mine but this is what we used to see until like 16.1.2 and I wish we could have this again. No battery drain during the inactive hours. Was air tag and AirPods there with iOS 16??

I have to admit that I have been very disappointed with the battery on the iPhone "X" Pro models for many years, and have not really understood why it drains so quickly.

A couple of days ago I came across two videos that recommended which settings should be enabled and disabled.

There are a ton on videos like this, but I've never found them make any difference. But seriously, this worked wonders for me. I really want to be skeptical of such videos, but this is gold! Recommended to check 😀

I usually don’t pay attention to these videos either but I stumbled across the OFF one and I started ending the day with 10-15% more battery. I didn’t change every single setting but a good amount of them. Definitely worth a try. I’ll checkout the ON video, maybe more battery life to be had.

My main hesitation about returning to the Pro Max has always been battery life. I still don’t believe Apple has delivered on the promised improvements. While 18.0.1 has made some progress, iOS 18 overall has a lot to be desired when it comes to battery performance. Although I won’t switch back to the Pro Max, I can’t shake the feeling that we’re not getting the battery life we were advertised and expected right now.
For me 16P is a clear upgrade from 15P when it comes to battery life. Same usage pattern, I get about 5-10% more of battery percentage in the evening.

Not that I could charge every other day like I could 13PM before they upgraded FindMy for AirTags, but still ok.
Never really trusted the official #s, they’re more to be considered as references in relative terms in my view. It’s like the fuel consumption #s the car manufactures brag about, never think I’ll reach those anyway in ”normal” use lol. The interesting fact is when you have the chance to compare yourself between devices, and have to say that the 16P didn’t impress to start with but latest few days it’s not far from being on par with 14PM. But with that said I underline that it’s a bit to short time to really judge. Promising is a word I would use.

“You’re definitely right. My only concern is that since unboxing the 16 Pro, I’ve been quite disappointed with its battery life—something I haven’t felt with an iPhone in a long time. I didn’t pay much attention to the numbers Apple provided, but I did notice the battery is larger than the 15 Pro, yet it never seems to perform as expected. The battery drain while doing nothing on the phone is really frustrating. That said, I still love the device. I hope Apple has been focusing on 18.1, and the experience is what we all expected.

They still haven’t fully addressed the idle battery drain, which used to be a non-issue. The most noticeable difference for me is watching videos on the Pro. I was watching a football game for about 10 minutes, and my battery dropped from 57% to 52%. With iOS 17 on my 13 Pro Max, it would have only dropped about 2% in the same time. These battery issues, especially the idle drain, are the biggest concerns for me.
10 minutes isn’t really a fair comparison. You’d have to watch the exact same video under the same conditions (brightness, signal strength, location, etc...). But I don’t think you can expect a pro to compete with a max as far as battery life. The battery is simply smaller.

I’m not seeing abnormal idle drain but I did notice my AirPods aren’t on find my currently. I will re-add them sometime this week and compare usage.

I completely understand your point, but with the Pro Max at 85% battery health, I don’t believe it should outperform a brand-new Pro. I’ve heard some users say their 16 Pros are matching the battery performance of their 15 Pro Max, which I am not experiencing. While I don’t expect Pro Max performance, something feels off.

I don’t think it’s a battery issue; it seems more related to iOS 18. Both the Pro and Pro Max shouldn’t be experiencing such significant idle drain.”

I am completely fine taking a trade off in battery life for the pro, but this seems very abnormal.

Saturday morning I took the phone off the charger and turned off Bluetooth. While I haven't used it a ton this weekend, I'd say it is pretty consistent with two WFH days. I would normally have around 20-25% left after that. With BT off, I am at 59%. For that kind of improvement, I can toggle it when I want to use my Airpods.

I went from a 13 Pro to a 16 Pro Max and I have no regrets. PM is slightly heavier but the outstanding battery life, bigger screen and easier to read text and more spaced out keyboard are the killer features for me. Whilst you do feel it in the pocket, my aging eyes need something that easier to use and the 16 PM is it!

Did you read the title of that thread, did you?

Possibly, have you seen if you have any apps with high background activity? Coming from the 14 pro I’m starting to see maybe ~15% better battery life which is about right for the battery capacity increase. A 85% battery 15PM would still have a larger battery capacity than a 16 pro. I’m not sure how accurate user reports are. From what I’ve seen in battery tests it’s better than the 15P but still comes up short to the 15PM as expected. Here’s one but there’s others, including a ton of real time shootouts on YouTube.

Highest thing running continuously is Home and Lock screen. My phone today has mostly been in my packet, and I am still getting drain on the battery. The screen shouldn’t be doing anything at all.

There definitely seems to be something affecting idle drain for some people. Curious, how many find my devices do you have? Any AirPods?

Yes this drain seems strange. Seeing really good battery performance from my 16P for the moment. Avg screen active 9:12 and Avg screen idle 1:49 on daily charge with good margin. Specifically yesterday it reads 14:22 resp. 2:42 on 75% battery usage. On a whole pretty satisfied with that.

Have 12 total devices and items in find my. One is the first gen AirPods Pro.
Seems like something going on with Find my and/or Airpods. My AirPods Pro gen 1 were removed from Find My for some reason but I'll be testing them to see if there's a difference. I had them on previous phones without any issues including 14P on iOS 18 (albeit for only a week).

Let me know if you find out that’s the issue. Funny enough I don’t see find my high on my usage list.

I went from 16 Pro Max to 16 Pro and I’m still finding the 16 Pro heavy after a while especially holding it while in bed and watching YouTube. Didn’t have this issue with the regular 16. I can def feel the weight difference more than I expected.

So you started on a regular 16 before the Pro Max? And I presume you went to the Pro because you found the Pro Max extremely heavy? Are you staying with the Pro then even though you still find it heavy?

I used the 15 Pro Max last year and eventually got used to the giant size. This year, I preordered both the 16 Pro Max and the regular 16. I found the 16 Pro Max unwieldy due to its size, but I absolutely loved the feel of the regular 16, especially the ultramarine color. I did start missing two things—the always-on display and the 5x optical zoom—since I take a lot of pictures. Honestly, I didn’t really miss the ProMotion, as it’s just a nice-to-have for me.

So, I decided to try the smaller 16 Pro to get back the Always-On Display and 5x zoom, and ProMotion was a bonus. However, I noticed hand fatigue, which surprised me given the smaller size.

I’m still using the 16 Pro now, but I’m really tempted to exchange it for the regular 16 and go back to basics, especially since the vanilla 16 felt so great. My favorite iPhone ever was the 13 Mini, so I’m used to the convenience of a lightweight, small phone that practically disappears in my pocket.

I’ve got about 1.5 weeks left to exchange the 16 Pro at the Apple store, and I’m still undecided. What are you planning to do?

Suggest that you keep the 16 Pro as it has Pro Motion plus the other premium features.

Never ever go back to a phone with a 60Hz display, mark my words.

Don't you think you'll get used to the weight of the 16 Pro? If you managed the 15 PM last year, you shouldn't have any issues with the 16 Pro this year.

I believe the added features on the Pro that you're accustomed to will be difficult to live without.

Last day to decide on keeping the 16P. I’m going to have a last nights sleep on it but more or less decided to keep it. Past week have given me really good battery life which basically was my last hold up, weird that I still see the ”Update Finishing” message though…

The 16P seems to sell quite well.
iPhone 16 Pro models dominate lackluster iPhone 16 sales

That's huge news! The smaller pros haven't sold like that in a long time. Seems like increasing the size of the Pro Max might have moved some people away.
