I ordered a 16 GB Black and paid $15 for shipping so I would have it on Saturday or Monday.

The rep who helped me asked me if I wanted to pay the extra $15 for priority shipping and I said that I might as well. She then noticed that she could check a little box to waive the shipping fee, so she did. They shouldn't make you pay extra for shipping because they were out of stock on an item.

The manager and the girl who helped me both said that our orders would be filled when they received their next shipment. It seems like I just ordered one phone and I am waiting for it to ship, I wonder if the store is actually going to fill the orders as their shipments come in. They acted like it would either be tomorrow or Monday, but it is hard to trust them with any kind of time frame. They don't have a clue what they are doing.

Whenever I enter the order number to check it redirects me to the main wireless screen?!

this was already stated above. Did you try typing in the stores zip and not your home zip?

Did you look under the Back Ordered Category ? If you see 1 under this, then your order is back ordered.

What does this mean when its back ordered? Should I be crying now??

Mine has a 1 in the backordered column next to "FRT" (freight). It doesn't have a 1 in the backordered column next to "Phone".

Direct fullfillment question

I had to do the direct fulfillment as well. Anyone see an issue with finding one elsewhere and then just canceling the order (even after it ships possibly)? I didn't pay extra for shipping, and don't see why they couldn't just return it to store inventory.

I arrived at the AT&T store with my son at 7am this morning and we were numbers 23 and 24 in a line of about 50 people. We got in the door at 10am after a long wait because of itunes running very slow and it taking forever to activate a phone. We got the last two 16gb black phones in stock and they were taking orders after us and were telling everyone the phone would be in on Monday. I went to work and after work at about 7pm I went to the Apple Store in the local Mall to get some accessories and there was a line of about 100 people. The sales guy in the store said the line was at the shortest it had been all day. He said they had plenty of phones and would not run out of any of the models. So it seems that AT&T held back some phones to get demand up but the Apple Stores will have plenty. The AT&T guy said the phones would be shipped from their warehouse in Memphis and that there were plenty of them at that warehouse.

That is incorrect. AT&T was not allotted the same amount as Apple Stores. Some AT&T stores only got the enough for the people you saw in line as you went in for accessories.

this is my disaster..

Evidently they have my phone in stock, but the dude who boxes them up for shipment is feeling a little lazy right now.

Well, I'll have to wait until I see it won't I?

Is anyone else feeling a good two week wait now that I am looking at this information from everyone? I actually thought I might see it early next week. Probably going to go with a...yeeeee..no

if you look on the first page, we had another member that had this exact experience with the first iPhone launch including the "Back Order" fiasco yet he got a call on Tuesday saying that the phone arrived.

I'm gonna keep calling the status line...

I like your optimism :D
