Mine went from Backorder 0 since Tuesday to suddenly backorder 1. Was hopeful but back to the waiting game. My only fear is that it takes longer than 7 business days and my 30 day new customer exchange period runs out and cannot swap my current phone for the waiting iphone. Was ordered Sunday 4pm 8gb version.
Me too. In retrospect, I was stupid enough to get my first line from AT&T a week before the launch, thinking I'd just add the iPhone to be a family plan. At this rate, I may run too close to my 30 days for the first phone and have to cancel the whole mess. Coverage at my house is very poor, I can't assume the iPhone will get decent reception, especially after other threads complaining about reception.

Good lord!!!!

My freakin order #'s are in the 47XXX vicinity..

I have been checking my order status since Sunday when I ordered...
The backorder has been 0 for the 3 phones... and 1 for freight.

Hope that means something good...
Anyways, ive talked with CS and I think they are fine with me goin up to apple store and trying to get an iPhone

Mine was flipping back and forth from backorder last night and this morning I checked it and it's back on backorder. Just the phone though. I don't understand because I was the first to do direct fulfillment at my store at 8:30 AM EST on friday. I should have definitely had my phone shipped out by now. At least the order status page to say that it's shipping.

Friday order in CA - no change

I ordered my black 16GB phone on Friday morning in San Mateo. Number 265XX. It hasn't shipped yet.

Mine switched last night @ 9:30 pm CST to only freight backordered and not the phone and has been like that since.

Edit: A cruel twist of fate, mine just switched to phone backordered.

Now I'm mad.

Both the web and phone order tracking told me this morning my phone was ready to ship. Both phone and freight were removed from backorder. I checked again this afternoon to see if it had shipped and guess what! I'm back on backorder!

So I called an ATT CSR rep for more information. But CSR can't pull up my order details because I ordered from a retail store! Ok that makes no sense what so ever. But he said since my order was on 7-10 day backorder the earliest I'll get my phone is Friday. Well that's the thing, according to the only communication I received from ATT, my order was on a 5-7 day backorder. The sales rep at the store thought my phone would arrive as early as Tuesday. That was, by his own admission, an optimistic assessment but still a very different situation than "Friday at the earliest." I’m not sure why the sales rep would have lied since this was after the sale had been made and I was asking if he thought phones would arrive by the end of this week.

I think it’s pretty clear ATT really has no clue what they are doing and every timeline and fulfillment assessment is pretty much someone’s best guess (the retail sales rep) or an outright lie (the CSR).

Currently phone is backordered but not the freight. Anyone care to guess what that may mean if anything? Anyone think this is worth going back to the store to find out what's up? They aren't answering their phone which is disgraceful on one hand but understandable on the other. I mean nobody wants angry customers bitching at them for something that's out of their hands.

Seriously thinking of canceling my order!

I've been as excited as anyone to get my still-on-backorder iPhone for myself and my wife. However, if you look at this forum you find the following:

  • The AT&T 3G network is delivering HORRIBLY slow speeds in many markets
  • People are having HUGE issues with their Apps essentially crashing their iPhones all the time
  • The 2.0 firmware upgrade seems to be buggier than anyone anticipated

So, slower than promised surfing speeds coupled with a phone that crashes b/c of apps and buggy firmware...hmmmm....exactly why am I ponying up over 500 bucks for this privilege?

I'm seriously thinking of canceling my order and holding off for a while until they get this craziness under control. I'm as geeked about new technology as the next person (moreso, actually), but I'm not very excited about being over-promised and under-delivered by this degree.

Anyone else in a similar boat??

i went to AT+T today and ended up getting a no-contract service only plan (with no equipment) for $39.99/month with my number ported to it from t-mobile. i have a SIM and if i find/borrow a phone that will work on the AT+T network i can use it just fine until my iPhone gets here. once the iphone shows up, we just put it on the account, put the SIM card in and add the data and i am all set. i ordered the 16GB white and was told 10-21 days.

everything is all verified and double checked so i do not have any issues when the iphone comes in - no extra fees, upgrade charges, etc...

the only mild negative is having 2-3 weeks of service i will most likely not use, but it was worth it to me to keep my phone number.

very easy, took 15 minutes. i am happy as of now

ironically, as i was there fedex came and delivered 15 individually boxed phones for DF orders. the manager told me 100% of incoming phones are for fulfilling these DF orders, NO phones will be sold to walk-in customers until all DF orders are done.

Update

So my order still says
FRT: 1 Ordered - 1 Backordered
Phone: 1 Ordered - 0 Backordered

Called the AT&T Store (Hayden Idaho) and was polite and asked a couple questions:

Q. Have they recieved any of the orders from Saturday
A. No

Q. Are they Expecting them to arrive this week
A. Yes

Q. How often are they reciving shipments
A. At least 2 Per Day - FedEx is working hard to get them delivered

Q. Are they doing deliveries on Saturdays as well to stores?
A. Yes

When the online Order Status goes down - the internal system does as well.
AT&T Corporate has said they they are anticipating a big bulk order to be allocated to them early (read Monday or Tuesday) of next week.

Yes, they are tired of people calling about their iPhone status. But be patient.

Take this info for what it is worth. Maybe AT&T passing on dis-information?

Thoughts?

Just registered

I've been following this thread since last friday and I just now decided to register finally.

Here's my situation.

Phone Type: 16GB Black
Phone Purchased: 10:42 AM EST@ Atlantic Station (ATL) AT&T Store
Rep Stated before I purchased: Latest you will receive it will be Monday.
Rep Stated after I purchased: Latest you will earliest you will receive it is Monday.

Backorder-Not flip: occured past two nights.

It seems like a lot of people think that their order numbers are numbered in the order that everyone bought their phone. I hope you realize that the most left numbers are a sort of prefix that has to do with the store you purchase your phone from. That is why you are able to do the scraping trick. So order number 57xxx may not have been ordered after order 12xxx.

Anyway, I probably should have ordered a 16 GB White because all of the orders around mine at my store have been shipped except for about 6 including mine-all probably Black 16GB. About 10 orders after mine they are consistently backordered/not shipped.

Biggest mistake was going to an AT&T Store.

What I should have done: driven 25 minutes north to Mall of Georgia Apple Store and happily get an iPhone and wait half as long as I did to get a receipt from the AT&T store.

What really pisses me off is that the AT&T employees have the gall to just give whatever answer they want with an arbitrary time frame. It's clear that no one ever knew what the hell was going on and when the iPhones were going to be delivered.

Anyway, if mine doesn't change to shipped...I'm just going to cancel my DF, and go wait in line at the MOG apple store. Lenox is still ridiculous right now.

Update: Another thing I've noticed is that a lot of the orders around me have an 0 for FRT for the first time...hopefully mine will change too, soon.

back to backordered... ordered 16GB black late Friday... i guess it'll come eventually

i found the theory as to why they are switching from 0 to 1 interesting though... i think it could be correct

some more people in front of me definitely got theirs shipped today so at least they are making progress

Your iPhone 3G order is ready to be picked up at the AT&T store where you reserved it. Please bring your reservation receipt and a valid ID when you pick-up your order. You will also want to ensure that your account is in good standing at time of pickup by making payment in store. This will avoid any account status issues due to mail delays.

Our AT&T representative will contact you to arrange a pick up time. If you are an Original iPhone customer our representative can assist you with activating your new iPhone 3G and also your Original iPhone. Your plans may include giving your Original iPhone to another family member. So
please remember to bring your Original iPhone with you.

We look forward to seeing you!!!

I just got back from the AT&T store.....unhappy.

After finding out yesterday that someone that placed an order an hour after mine, at the same store on friday, for the same model had theirs ship yesterday, I was a bit peeved. I have been checking order status again today, and my order still has not shipped. I then stopped into the store and asked them if there was a problem with my order. They said there was no issue with the order, and it was still open/in process.

I am on the line with AT&T support right now trying to find out why I waited in a line if I could've shown up an hour later and gotten my iphone today, as apparently some customers are. There is no reason why someone that placed an order hour after mine, for the exact same product, set to ship to the same store should recieve theirs a day or more before another person. What is the point in waiting in a line if this is the case?

I am frustrated, and to some of you I'm sure this seems rediculous, but if it were you, you would be pissed off as well.

same^ I think for me its because the person who checked me out told me priority was the top option for $15. Meanwhile other ATT reps gave ppl free overnight shipping.

I'd suggest trying to get it from Apple first. Most Apple stores are out of stock.

APPLE store at Bridgeport (Portland, OR ) just got a shipment. I don't think many people know yet. Only 6-8 people in line waiting for the genius.

My ATT rep told me they were not allowed to charge people to ship priority that everything was going out the same (At the time he thought was standard shipping).

Seems your ATT rep didn't follow / receive the same orders.
