I feel for all you folks waiting for the 3G. The problem is that there is a basic disconnect between AT&T's sales side and it's shipping side.
Back in March I ordered a 1st Gen via AT&T website on a saturday. With 2 day shipping, I figured it would arrive on Wed at the latest. Soon after I ordered it I got a confirmation number via email.
On monday morning I decided to check on the order's status via the website, and suprise, even with the confirmation number, I got a big blank. I checked that afternoon, and again nothing. My card hadn't been charged as well. Frustrated I called and the lady I talked too was suprised as well, she said it should have registererd by then, but to be safe she said wait till tommorow. I called back the next day, and of course the website and the CSR had no record of my order. Assured that it should have registered by then, and there must have been a 'glitch' I decided to make the 45 min drive to the nearest AT&T store and picked up my phone that night.
You can guess what happened next. The next day I recivieved and email that told me that my Iphone had shipped and my card had been charged! Needless to say I was upset that I now had over $800 of charges on my card and after being told by 3 CSR that it was safe to go and buy another iphone and that my internet order didn't exist.
I called DHL to refuse shipment and the phone never reached my door, but to add insult to injury, AT&T charged me the 10% restocking fee! The CSR I talked too told me that the package had to of been opened for them to charge that, but after I explained to her that I had never even seen the package, much less opened it she credited my account the restocking fee.
Long story, but it illustrates AT&T's incompetence. They did take care of me in the end.
