I think I chose the wrong store to order it in...
my queue is 54 and I ordered it 7/16/08
they've been really irregular about shipping dates. I can't tell which order is which. There's no trend that I can find about 8GB or 16GB B/W....
hurry up that supply line!!!

over at the ATT store on 38th? I ordered from there too but its taking forever for mine to come in. I was told 5-7 and today is 7 and im still 50 on the list =/ sigh.
mine didn't flip even though many people's did

Yeah from the store on 38th. What day did you order yours then? Take into account when they quote 5-7 days, which they can't really do since their shipments are dependent on Apple and timeframes are wildly different from store to store, they are talking about business days, Monday through Friday so even though they are open weekends they are not receiving shipments from what I understand.
I was quoted "it will be months" and then another employee told me "7-10 business days" and I fell within the latter.
If you want some piece of mind keep tracking with the scripts out there and watch the number drop. You might not get it for another week or so but you'll get it.

AZ order update
I ordered my 16gb black on 7/14 in the Phoenix metro area, watched mine flip several times yesterday. 7+ orders shipped to my store yesterday, moving me from #15 to #7 in the queue today. I haven't noticed any flipping on the backorder today, although my store shows one shipping today (so far). Overall good movement yesterday.

It took me 45 minutes today. Lots of others receiving them in the store as well.
Was fairly organized ... The store had 4 people working and they had a sign in list and were just going in order.
Took me maybe 15 minutes once they focused on me. It took 15 or 20 minutes for them to futz around & get the box & then call me over to start the process. But I already have an account so all they had to do was activate & assign the new plan.

ordered on the 14th in the evening lol. Just checked the script and noticed I moved up to 30 already today, not too shabby. maybe ill get it quicker than I expected. congrats on yours shipping, hope it arrives without any issues.

So how long on average is it taking for the store to fulfill the orders? Got me worried. I just ordered mine over the phone and have a maximum of 14 days before I leave back outside the U.S. uhh ohh.

I'd say about a week or a week and a half. However, it does depend on the store because some get a lot of shipments fulfilling their orders quickly, while I've heard others haven't gotten any shipments at all (probably an exaggeration though).

I ordered a 16GB black in the afternoon of 7/17 from the AT&T store on 17th St. & 6th Ave. in NYC.
I've been No. 71 since this weekend. Despite several '0' and '1' switches in the backorder column, there has been no movement in the queue whatsoever. It doesn't look like this store is getting any shipments at all.
I could be waiting a while...unfortunately.

Finally picked up my 2 16GB black iPhones today from the AT&T store. Did number porting from T-Mobile for my wife and I, and left the store about an hour later.... wooo!! We ordered them 7/11 in the afternoon. Very sexy phones, and very fast 3G data speeds from what I can tell using it for a bit! Miles faster than my T-Mobile Edge speeds on my original iPhone!
