For me, it depends on model and colour.

A silver Pro Max with 256GB of storage has the longest wait time (Oct 6-14th), but orange is available on Sept 19th. Blue is available on the 24-29th.

All the 17 Pros are available on Sept 19th. I’d go for a regular Pro, so this works for me.

Why not just use the way aka site to make it whatever color and design you want ? Yes it is a official. The only disadvantage is it is yours then so best to only do it after a few weeks when you are sure you are keeping that exact model.

Serious question -

Every year you all get the same lesson...

Order with delivery, and UPS screws up plenty of orders.

At this point, why would anyone NOT choose store pickup if it was at all a possibility.

Air looking to be a failure.
After 100 minutes of being on sale? It was likely never designed to be a huge seller. It’s taking the slot of the worst seller in the lineup and is clearly more of a marketing piece to show that Apple can still design/innovate within the smartphone factor. And it’s a precursor to next year’s foldable.

Here in Toronto at 9:42 ET, all colours of the 256 GB Pro Max are delivering October. 7-15th, and none of the stores in the city have any allocations for pickup left.

Lots of availability for both pickup and delivery for the Pros though, for Sept. 19 or 25 depending on the colour.

I personally don't want to drive half an hour to an Apple Store. All in all, the whole process takes about 1.5 hours. It's moot though, since availability of the 256 orange Pro Max is exactly zero now, in all the 10 closest stores (with several of those stores being in different cities).

Or you could do what I did: get a premium refurb from Amazon. I got the iPhone 16 Pro with 256GB for $899. their "premium" label guarantees no visible or functional flaws (I sure didn't find any), battery charging to 100%, and a full 1 year warranty! It's way more than I need, but the battery on my 2020 SE was holding charge shorter and shorter (after a replacement in 2023), and I ran out of storage space for new apps in its 64GB capacity.

Seems like a lot of people may be wait and see on the Air. I know I'd like to see it in person before I decide whether to get it or the 17 Pro. Either way, it may not be hard to get a phone on launch day even if you don't pre-order

I ordered right when it opened as i had my pre-order already configured. For me, it said shipping date of 9/25 or in-store pickup for 9/19.

What i think Apple is doing is prioritizing in-store deliveries over ship to home. They feel if they can get buyers in the store, they will buy other things (like accessories), which obviously is more profitable for them.

Sure it isn't...yet Apple obviously put a lot of effort into it compared to other models.

Innovation is squeezing everything up to the top of the phone so that the phone is slim with a gigantic camera bump? OK then lol.

I…see the 19th right now on the site?

Anyhow.

I feel like 'faring better' is interesting phrasing here since it actually means that demand was probably overestimated.
I think it was too. I got a 256gb black air for launch day delivery from att about an hour after presales started. My bill’s going down from my 512 16 pro max 🤠

Can always do what was already done a lot, by a good margin, do more than just the exact model if not sure.

There stats and site data to back this up currently and for much longer.

Eww nobody wants an iPhone 16 anymore lol.

Preordered 17 Pro Max 512G in orange just now on VZ's website with delivery next Friday. No long wait.

It's always highly entertaining seeing people whine about UPS and unsigned-for boxes being left, etc.

Do none of you have jobs? I've been having phones delivered to $WORK for years, where there's someone available to sign for them, they're in a secure place until I can get them, etc.

Apple put a lot of effort into miniaturization and one-half of the $2,000 foldable they’re selling next year. And shrinking down most everything in a phone but the battery into a camera bump is pretty impressive and innovative.

Are you seriously telling people to buy a refurb of a one year-old model in a iPhone 17 series thread? Really?

BTW, third party refurbs are pretty hit and miss, including so-called certified or premium refurbs. Furthermore, some third party refurbs are not eligible for Apple battery replacements, so if you want to replace your battery 3 years down the line, you may not be able to get it done properly by Apple.

I looked at what the 17 was going to be, looked at being stuck with the mess that is iOS 26, and ordered a 16Pro to replace my 14Pro from Verizon.
I'm on iOS 26 on my 12 Pro Max. Some things like CarPlay are light years better on iOS 26 than they are on iOS 18. Totally different league.

I hear you. I have two e-sim in my phone and I used to love tinkering to get things set up. There are plenty of apple stores here (in Vegas we have FOUR in a 10 mile radius) and I am old enough to like the hustle and bustle of getting with the crowd (esp. after covid) but not old enough to not want to do it lol.
