Apple’s ordering system is absolutely useless. Every year it is the same problem and it seems they don’t care. I tried on the app and on my MacBook and couldn’t get into the store until 6 minutes after the original time. I was able to order the 17 and 17 ProMax to deliver on 09/19 but they were not available to pick up at any of the 6 Apple Stores around me. WTF 🤬

Or you could do what I did: get a premium refurb from Amazon. I got the iPhone 16 Pro with 256GB for $899. their "premium" label guarantees no visible or functional flaws (I sure didn't find any), battery charging to 100%, and a full 1 year warranty! It's way more than I need, but the battery on my 2020 SE was holding charge shorter and shorter (after a replacement in 2023), and I ran out of storage space for new apps in its 64GB capacity.
Amazon refurb is meaningless. You get someone else's junk.

Glad I didn’t upgrade this year sad for those that did but got bad shipping dates, but the heated cheese slicer is still available for the 19th in the UK.

Not sure if you know or understand how technology works but this is and was the same for:

Nintendo Switch 2
Playstation 5
Xbox Series X|S

Pretty much any tech item that people want, the retailers have only "x" amount of bandwidth and computational power they can provide to service orders.

They have that screen up that you see... it's like having the doors closed at the store to not overpack the store with people.

TLDR - You can only have so many cash registers working in a physical store. Online stores are no different.

No idea why but last time, few weeks ago, the one here still had curb side pickup. An actually Apple employee brings it to you if needed. Prefer to just get it myself with in store pickup but nice to know it is still available if needed. May ask though I did see it as a option too.

My experience was good this year. Since I was upgrading 2 phones on AT&T, I ordered from their site. That way I could get the $1100 trade-in. I started checking at 4:50AM and preorders were not yet available. I kept checking and lo and behold preorders opened up at 4:55AM. I was able to get two 17pro max blue 2TB. Delivery 9/19. No waiting, no fuss, no bother. I was nervous as I’ve had issues with carrier orders in the past, but this time through AT&T it was totally painless.

It’s widely agreed on that the issue with those launches were primarily due to scalpers. That’s not a factor here considering the way Apple and Providers run these pre-orders.
Apple is also one of the largest companies in the world, running their own distribution directly rather than through third parties like the examples you listed.
There’s zero excuse for the glitches that occurred this morning, and someone will be at least getting a serious talking to if not fired over it considering the sheer volume of stock and potentially lost revenue involved.

You missed my point. It is absolutely impossible that all 6 stores near me ran out of all the phones in 6 minutes but they were still available to ship for delivery on 09/19. The system says none of the phones are available for pickup in any store around me. That’s BS.

Let me into store 2 mins past the hour and already showed a 9/25 date. Immediately went to AT&T and snagged my Pro Max there for release day.
My carrier is charging more than Apple for the phone. Lame. It's CA$1749 at Apple for the 17 PM, and CA$1799 at Telus.

Isn't that the same as Apples refurbishment process, except you just get an Apples users old junk instead?
Nope. Apple's refurbs always are essentially perfect. If necessary, they will replace the battery and outer case, and you get a full 1 year warranty and they are eligible for full AppleCare warranties too. It's basically impossible to tell an Apple refurb apart from a new one, aside from the serial number and packaging.

Furthermore, with third party refurbs, they often do not have full Apple warranties and they may not be eligible for additional AppleCare.

However, I continue to buy new, because I get extended warranty though my credit card. My credit card will not provide extended warranty to any refurbs, including Apple's (although some credit cards will provide extended warranties for Apple refurbs).

I had my pre-approved config (512 blue Max) set yesterday - just as I've done since they started offering this process. At about :4 after, I was allowed in to one-click complete my order. Before doing so, I notice my delivery date was 9/25. Confused, I checked silver, orange - they all offered 9/25 deliveries and no in-store pickup (I'm in Denver with 4 stores within a 20-min radius). I've been on iUP since it debuted. This cycle will be the first time I will not have a launch-day device dating all the way back to the '07 debut. While it's [obviously] not a big deal (it's a friggin phone), it was certainly surprising. OT be fair, this is the first time I have ordered a Max. Still, 9/25 is unexpected. But, closer to my 9/29 b-day, so... 🤘

i remember when apple products were so hot this was a thing. lines outside stores on launch day. checking tracking info over and over. up early to get that order in lest it be a two month wait. they couldn’t make them fast enough. magic was in the air. those were the days!

I had a lot of difficulty with the order process; time slots running out, then back; failed payment processing, start again; I had to go through probably 6 times before it finally took. But, at least it got done. I'm on the east coast, sounds like they got overwhelmed.

I have been trying to get a Zimomo for literally two months and I even had to subscribe to a "tracker" but the rare moments they "drop" it, it's sold out the moment I click on the tracker notification. RIDICULOUS

People with bots. Watched a doc about it on YT. Some dude spending 2K a month on bots to snag inventory direct from Pop Mart when it releases. Regular people stand 0 chance with stuff like that in play. It sucks. I really have not desire to buy them but would be cool to just own one for the fun of it. Any recs? What's the average retail price they sell for before all the scalper/ebay markups?
