With current 45w 9th gen intel,no 64gb ram supportDon’t be so sure. With the larger battery, Apple could very well support 64GB. Who knows, maybe 128GB as well.
10th gen will be with up to 64gb ram DDRLP4

I think you're exactly right.Am I alone in guessing that this will ultimately replace the 15" model? And am I *really* out there in predicting that the 16" will be priced at most $200 over the same-specc'd 15" model in the meantime?
Don't give them ideas...Calm down, he's saying $3000 not $30,000. lol.
Don't give them ideas...
It doesn't take much to get a current 15" Macbook Pro to this price level, FYI.Are you kidding me? Who in their right mind would buy this, let alone anyone here on the MacRumors forums has enough cash to buy this?
Doesn’t it seem late for invitations? I feel like they wouldn’t just release the 16” MacBook Pro as just a press release. Maybe invitations will go out today or tomorrow, who knows? 🤔
Yeah it certainly does look less alarming taking it over a longer period. I have previously preferred to update a bit more regularly, but I've done OK with my 2015 until now (over 4 years and still going strong) so don't see any reason this wouldn't do even better* - my real concern is that I prefer to go for a stock option over a BTO (rigmarole with returning/ exchanging if something is wrong or goes wrong) so if the base model doesn't come with at least 512GB of storage I'm gong to be looking at some really hefty upcharges on an already expensive machine - likely in the £3,500 region, whereas a 512GB MBA is £1,600 and the only thing wrong with it for me is I find the screen size annoyingly small (external monitor not really an option). And remember all things being equal the better the Macbook, the longer the Macbook will keep up with Mac OS upgrades. So if a good machine last 6 years or more the long term investment is worth the price if you are on your Mac all the time.
Why 16in does not replace 15in? That's the biggest curiosity.
Lot's of people would buy this for 3-5k depending on GPU, CPU and storage:Are you kidding me? Who in their right mind would buy this, let alone anyone here on the MacRumors forums has enough cash to buy this?
Apple's widely rumored 16-inch MacBook Pro will be available by the end of October, suggesting that an announcement is imminent, according to supply chain sources cited by hit-or-miss industry publication DigiTimes.

16-inch MacBook Pro concept by MacRumors
The report claims Taiwanese manufacturer Quanta Computer has already begun volume shipments of the 16-inch MacBook Pro, which the supply chain sources expect to feature a more reliable scissor keyboard, an "ultra-thin bezel design," and Intel's latest Coffee Lake Refresh or Ice Lake processors, although Intel has yet to announce Ice Lake chips appropriate for a high-end MacBook Pro.
The slimmer bezels would result in the 16-inch MacBook Pro being around the same size as the existing 15-inch model despite having a larger display. IHS Markit analyst Jeff Lin said the notebook's resolution will be 3,072x1,920 pixels.
Last week, icons depicting a MacBook Pro with slimmer bezels in Silver and Space Gray were uncovered in the macOS Catalina 10.15.1 beta, lending credence to an upcoming release. Both icons were created just over a week ago, have "16" in the filename, and reference an unreleased MacBookPro16,1 model.
Apple's plans to release a 16-inch MacBook Pro were first revealed by Ming-Chi Kuo, who back in February said the notebook would be released in 2019. Kuo later said the notebook would be equipped with a scissor keyboard. Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has also reported that the notebook is coming in 2019.
Apple is expected to position the 16-inch MacBook Pro at the high end of its notebook lineup, with existing 15-inch and 13-inch MacBook Pro models remaining available and following suit with scissor keyboards in 2020, according to Kuo.

Yeah, you're right. What was I thinking. I guess part of me is still stuck in the Jobs era where iterative updates were not shaped into entirely new product tiers in order to gouge people. The 16" Pro will eventually replace the 15" but until that happens Apple will take advantage of early adopters by offering only very expensive configurations. They have done it in the past and they might do it again. Simply put, Apple won't offer any cheap configurations (e.g. 256GB SSD or Intel i5 processors) thus forcing people to spend at least $3000 even if they don't need 512GB of SSD or an i7. Then next year they could also offer cheaper configurations that completely replace the 15".
From the leaked icon, it appears it has been modified to add back a physical escape key, yet keep the rest of the Touch Bar. To me this means the odds of a totally-non Touch Bar model are nil. What are the odds that this doesn't ship with a Touch Bar?
There is no October event. So you're waiting for nothing. Can we please just get this damn October event invitation already Apple?
Blimey, it was a joke and by the way I’ve have been used to Apple’s pricing policy since 1989 when I started using them professionally!to all who are whining about the price, go back five, 10, 20 years and look at the prices Apple has charged for their high-end machines. They have always been high. If you use them professionally, it’s not a big deal. You can always write them off. They also tend to last longer than other machines. These forums have become a bottomless pit of complaining, snarkiness, and noise.
Unfortunately Apple does not want to use adequate GPU's to even remotely dream about this.I hope it has 120fps display.
Invites for what? To announce a Macbook that's one inch bigger? There is no need for an event to release one product.Where are the invites though ?
With the right upgraded internals I imagine a lot of people would bite at that price.
What are the odds that this doesn't ship with a Touch Bar?
An almost imperceptibly larger screen than the current 15" (remember-these screens are measured diagonally) and a retro keyboard like they used to make many years ago (that's reliable).
It'll be billed a the new improved MacBook Pro with new technology- but it's really just a backwards step fixing the mistakes they've recently made. Innovation Only
