If this features the rumoured 10nm chip from Intel you can count me in... Give Navi too and I'll instantly buy it.

Seems like we back on track in the Mac world.

Same hoping for Navi....

Anything that can get me better performance for Bootcamp gaming. :)
I don't have the physical space for a Windows laptop and my 2017 560 gets me by most games but won't do the trick forever.

I’ve been hoping that Apple would add a MagSafe port with a USB-C size connection, while leaving the current USB-C ports as-is. Heck, put one on each side of the machine for versatility.

The idea is just recess the rear two ports (left & right) with a slightly larger surround gap to make room for the adapter so you have the ability to use if for either power via MagSafe or USB-C device. If you look at the iFixit teardown you'll see this is not that big a leap and if you look at some of the USB-C magnetic plugs being sold they would fit! Flush with the case or slightly raised.

September event with redesigned MacBook Pro, new iPad Pro and launch of Photoshop for iPadOS. Boom!

You mean that photoshop for iOS they announced nearly a year ago to help sell iPads? Sounds like 2019 iPads will appear before this. Wonder why people aren’t a bit upset. This was often the reason cited for those getting a 2018 iPad Pro.

I could not get an intelligent response to this on the AppleInsider forum, so let me try here, as a long-time Apple supporter...

Most other laptop manufacturers price 13" and 15" laptops at practically the same price (yes, I know, Apple is superior to all the other laptop manufacturers, so comparisons are folly)...

Can anyone explain, other than Apple needing to make more $, why a consumer needs to pay an 85% markup to go from a 13" screen to 15", much less a 146% markup to go from 13" to 16". Even the XS and XS Max are only $100 apart, a 10% markup, so it's not like Apple couldn't put most of the internals of a $1299 13" into a 15" body and charge $1699.

Easy. Under Tim stockholders are priority. If consumers pay it, they'll exploit that.
There is no "other than Apple needing to make more $", that is it.

So the new 16-inch MacBook Pro comes with a measly increase in pixel resolution, a giant leap in price tag.

Tim Cook is innovating  product price that can be super expensive without any new innovation.

If the display itself has rounded corners like has been shown in all renders, then count me out.
Rounded corners, like on phones these days, might work for consumption devices. But not for production devices. A 16 inch with rounded corners and software that is meant to be displayed on all square displays will result in a display that is probably smaller than the current 15.4" square display...

Video footage, photographs, print paper, design prints and proofs, and many other things, will always have source material and finished material that has square corners. A display with rounded corners will be far less efficient to work on.

If the 15 inch is still around, I feel like everyone is in for some sticker shock. Apple will price it higher than their current "pro" laptops.

I and a lot of people have been waiting for Apple to wake up! Pro's don't want fangled cables, adapter or Hubs! Thats fine for someone that doesn't use the ports heavily. We do!

euh, count me as a pro, but the few USB-A devices I still regularly use got a new cable...
If you are working in a studio like me, it is not a problem to use a hub anyway (I did for a long time, it replaced an existing USB-A hub but had much more ports.)
I am talking for me and my needs of course, but I think the time for USB-A is over.

Nah, I'm doing quite fine in my current profession, thanks for caring. ;)

Can you stop? I've seen some posts by you that are so distasteful it's obvious you're not as rich as you think you are. I come from old money that would put your medical practice earnings to shame, but you do not see me (or anyone else here) trolling about what they make or what they have. Respect other members too.

That being said, this MBP is exciting for the future of the MBP. I can't wait to see it & buy it; although, '15 is a bit big for me.

Get ready to Apple to pat themselves on the back for removing the large bezels and "fitting a 16" laptop into a 15" laptop footprint!"

USB-C is a port that defaults to the USB 3.x protocol. A protocol with 1/4 the throughput or less. Without specifying, you leave it the the reader to decide what you meant. This post very much sounds like you were talking about the USB protocol, and not thunderbolt.

The same thingies on the side that the current MacBook Pro's have :D

Why in gods name do you need USBA at this point?
I've got plenty of pre-USB C devices. Chargers for example. An external mouse. Audio input.

On the other hand, a tiny external hub would do just fine for all the stuff that doesn't require performance. And you are unlikely to use six ports if you are on the road anyway.

This is completely irrelevant to me because these new MacBook Pros will undoubtedly be priced outrageously insane in Ireland (and the rest of the EU). A no for me.

The only real gating is: did they finally dump the butterfly keyboard?

A pro would be nuts to trust their livelihood on a flawed design—to say nothing of the $3-6K investment.

People really still want a giant Ethernet port on their laptops? What's wrong with a USB to ethernet adapter?
Since I rarely use it (but if you need it, there's no replacement for it) I bought one for £2.50 on eBay. 100Mbit/s only, but it works. If I needed more I would have paid more.

Since this won't replace the 15 inch MBP, it's going to be more expensive.
I guess it'll be $2999 for the entry config.
Good luck with that, X1 Carbon it is for me.
There are no 15" MBPs anymore with less than six cores. So you might be right, but it will be absolute performance.

I'd guess that this is a minor enhancement based around screen and processors. It will be a welcome improvement, but not a huge game changer. If these models don't have major engineering flaws, I might buy one in the 2 Gen.

Just give us the dam ports back!
  • 2 - USB-A
  • 4 - USB-C
  • Rear USB-C ports (L&R) recessed to accept flush MagSafe Plug & cable with charge LED
  • Ethernet & SD Slot
LAME.

I love the USB-C ports and need nothing else, but I wish there was a way to expand their capabilities. Maybe 5 or 6 USB-C ports, at most. The C ports are completely versatile and keep the notebook slim.

Not that I'm in the market for one of these, but I still have my trusty 2011 17" Macbook Pro and it would be nice if this was closer to 17" than 16". Seems a bit disappointing to just go up one inch. If you are going to make bigger Mac Book Pro, then don't mess around.

That's Tim Cook's Apple. No more 'one more thing' surprise as under Steve. But instead lots of promises that take years to actually come out or never do (see Airpower). Just to get another quick sale.

I hope it’s available before Sept 26th (when the Beats promo ends). I’m in the market for a new laptop but I’d hate to miss out on the promo while waiting to see the cost/specs of the new unit.
Doubtful it'll be released that soon. I'm hoping for an exclusive color -- maybe deep black like the 2006 MacBook.

Because the screen size isn't the only difference in hardware. The base 15" MBP has six cores instead of four, i7 instead of i5, 2.6 Ghz instead of 2.4 Ghz clock speed, 16GB RAM instead of 8GB, and a Radeon Pro 555X instead of the Iris Plus Graphics 655.

I've been doing a lot more on my laptop lately, so going from a 13" to this beast is definitely something I would consider.
