At least these products have high resale value.

Yes, they do.

However, it would be very hard to resell a USD3,000 for any significant price in a country here in Brazil, where even the 1% richest are struggling to buy the base MacBook Pro.

Plus, it is dangerous to go out on the streets with a laptop whose sale price here in Brazil will be in the range of USD6,000 after taxes. Taking the laptop out of the case is an invitation for it to be stolen.

I do not understand why there should be a price increase.

The only reason would be greed and trying to make the money they lost with the bad butterfly keyboard design.

- Technology goes down in price with time while specs grow up exponentially.
Look at SSD drive capacity, RAM, etc.
- Apple removed most of the ports, DVD, etc which actually should reduce the cost even further.
- Apple forced us to have the useless Touchbar, for which they increase the price for $400.00
- There has not been any major innovation that should justify a price increase. Increasing one inch in the monitor should not increase the price by $600.

If something the Macbook Pro should be reduced in price.
If they come at a starting point of $3k, this will be my last Mac.

I am done supporting a complete laptop nonsense design, of soldering components, non upgradability, lame keyboard, and removing best feature ever (Mag-safe) that has been going on for the past 4 years.

I’m pretty sure that my 2014 retina MacBook Pro will most likely be my last Apple notebook. I’m done with the higher price for less attitude that Apple has had since 2015.

The touchbar us useless while other computer already have full touchsecreens. Furthermore the price is already baked in since they already increased $400, which I consider a rip off.

I find the touchbar useful and much better than a touch screen. I wish Apple would extend its ablities and allow greater customization ala BTT. For example, I can go full screen and have the dock on my TB via BTT; as well as a dedicated full screen button labeled FS so I know what it does. YMMV HAND

Just updated the new 15" and now they should do a 16" without any major changes?

Yeah right.

16-inch MacBook Pro rumors continue to surface, with hit-or-miss industry publication DigiTimes today reporting that the notebook will feature an "ultra-narrow bezel" design and launch in September.

The report suggests that the narrow bezels will allow for the 16-inch MacBook Pro to be roughly the same overall size as the current 15-inch model. Taiwanese contract manufacturer Quanta Computer is expected to assemble the notebook, according to the unnamed supply chain sources cited.

Multiple reports have claimed the 16-inch display will be supplied by LG and have a resolution of 3,072×1,920 pixels.

Last week, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said the 16-inch MacBook Pro will also feature a scissor mechanism keyboard, as Apple finally begins to transition away from its troubled butterfly mechanism keyboard design.

16-inch MacBook Pro rumors are beginning to consolidate, but there are still a few conflicting details. This is the second report to mention a September release date, for example, but Apple typically unveils new Macs in October. Either way, it looks like the notebook is coming in the fall.

Kuo believes the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Pro will live on with refreshes in 2020.

Hopefully, the price will be LESS THAN the Mac Pro and be more affordable for regular people!...LOL

Still
I bought every 17" MacBook Pro ever made. I still use my 17" 2011 MacBook Pro. And so dedicated am I to the screen real estate, I put 1 TB solid state drive, removed to optical disk for additional hard disk space, and maxed out the RAM. Surprisingly, it runs OS X perfectly with those hardware upgrades. But it's still running an ancient processor on old screen resolution technology. Some of us believed Apple would listen to us. I even participated in a Facebook group called "bring back the 17" MBP. It appears that those who mocked the believers were wrong.
Still wish they’d just go to 17”, bring back the common ports and be done with it. I’ve adapted to the 15” and haven’t used my Alienware 17.3 and 18.4 in years. But then I’m not anywhere close to where they’re located to see if I can turn them into a Hackintosh laptop. Used to enjoy Windows 7 and never considered macOS until Windows 10 came out.

I share a similar sentiment with my mid 2014 retina MBP. The TouchBar models did not provide anything in the area of productivity, USB-C though flexible just added an additional headache to use a dongle for all those that had previous type ports (i.e. HDMI, USB-A, etc), it is a step back in productivity with additional cost associated. I have yet to see a TV with USB-C connectivity, I am sure it is coming however there is a significant delay to adopt this standard. Additionally the value added is marginal for most. Great I can charge my USB-C MBP through any port or use any for video, data, etc. I was not hearing any complaints in the past that people did not know which port was for MagSafe (power), HDMI, Audio 3.5mm, SD card, etc. Am I to believe that when I plus an HDMI cable I am expecting a USB drive to mount, USB-C is a great to unify with higher bandwidth, however if you don't know what you have plugged in for whatever reason it is a bigger concern, this is not the days of SCSI.

I always wondered why USB-C did not have a MagSafe type capability, maybe due to accidental interruption during data transfer, but I am sure there are ways to mitigate that possibility. On the plus side the device could have an IPX rating without being concerned if the USB-C connector breaks in the port or other forms of damage or having makeshift magnetic adapters for USB-C ports.

The only concern with the thinner bezel is the anti-glare coating tends to degrade in areas where fingers touch the screen unintentionally when closing the laptop. As careful as I am, my fall 2014 15 inh MBP had a rather large worn place in the coating and had lots of imperfections in it all around the edge, I imagine a thinner bezel making this problem more pronounced after the machine gets 3-4 years of use on it. It's hard not to touch the edge sometimes.

I just ordered the newly updated 13" MacBook Pro yesterday. It was on sale for $100- discount yesterday. I don't believe anything at the price point is coming out in September that will make me sorry I bought it now. This laptop is replacing a 5 year old Air, so I'm excited about the much better display and horsepower!!

TouchBar is greatly limiting what can be done with a TouchScreen, there is no comparison. Why press the play/pause button on the TouchBar when you can just do it directly on the video by TouchScreen. No one is saying all elements of macOS has to be TouchScreen friendly, it would be nice to just have elements as an introduction and then build on it similar to what the TouchBar is trying to do but has failed after many years.

Pricing will probably start where the 15” model’s ends.
Please can they fix the stupid half size up/down arrow keys. These are infuriating to use. Also, a proper enter key would be nice as well. And how about a proper UK keyboard layout while they are at it.

I hope Apple offers the Nano-Anti-Glare coating that is on Display XDR. I believe the 16" display will be 4K compliant as it has to align with XDR commanality for the Pro market.

Sounds like even if apple lowered the price a bit, then, it wouldn't be a very good market.

I am not sure why so many people are so hung up on the USC-C/Thunderbolt situation. I am a "pro" working on a laptop that has all those ports that everybody wants and I literally only use one Thunderbolt port. I dock and then I have what I need. When I'm on the road I don't even use the USB-A much. I just don't understand why everyone is so upset. I think it's a spectacular setup. Also, I am finding more and more items are USB-C. It won't be long before you CAN buy everything USB-C (heck even cars are offering charging ports that are USB-C.)

Just give us the dam ports back!
  • 2 - USB-A
  • 4 - USB-C
  • Rear USB-C ports (L&R) recessed to accept flush MagSafe Plug & cable with charge LED
  • Ethernet & SD Slot

I almost never use those ports. Couldn't care less. Speed of thunderbolt is awesome compared to that old tech. I bought an ethernet adapter, but only used it a couple of times. No thanks, I'm good

Would be a nice opportunity for some new stuff to flake off the monitor as it ages, for sure.

I've been saying this for years but all the mac fan boys shoot me down everytime. I really dont understand why I can't just have a touch screen on the mbp. Don't have to change anything else to accommodate it, just make the screen respond to touch.

These places are terrible to own expensive items. It's definitely not something you want to do unless you have to. Even an iMac at home is a risk.
