The rumor has it there will be drastically increased battery life of 100% due to a second battery located within the display. It will be called MacBook Pro Max. Max of course stands for Maximus. Following generation will then store electricity generated from pressing the keys. Kind a like the Toyota Prius. And no USB ports whatsoever. About the design I am not so sure, could be the cheese grater idea taken from the new MacPro

I look forward to this 16"... again, my bet is look at the Mac Pro... the base model will be very technically underwhelming but the max load out will be amazing....

Now, let's see which gPU this bad boy comes with... btw, don't you boot campers see the thermal throttling like Linus sees when running windows on a 2019?

So, “Pros” don’t want a port with 40Gb/s throughput capable of:

Nobody is saying they don't want USB-C/TB3 ports for those few devices that can actually take advantage of them. All they're asking for is a couple of good old USB-A ports - and maybe a HDMI - as well so that they don't need to use up the (very limited number, 2 to 4) of high-speed ports for boring old peripherals that might not even need USB 3 - and so that they don't need to rummage for a dongle when they're "on the road" and somebody hands them a USB stick, or they want to use a cellular modem, or charge a USB gizmo, or...

You may notice that far fewer people are complaining about USB-C/TB3 on the Mini/iMac/iMac Pro because Apple managed to add them without removing all of the so-called "legacy" ports.

Apple had one job to do in 2016 - take the Retina MBP design that everybody liked (including the industry-leading keyboard), update the innards and change the TB2 ports to TB3. Instead, apparently, what we wanted was something a few mm thinner (immediately offset for many people by the sudden need to carry a multiport hub and extra dongles around).

I am a media composer and have a sweet Mac mini 2018, i7 processor, six core, 32GB machine. Everything I have runs off of USB-C.

Nay, nay and thrice nay = that's impossible - because the Mac Mini retained its "legacy" USB-A, HDMI and Ethernet ports alongside TB3/USB-C, and apparently the only way for people to bask in the pure new light of the one true connector is for all of those hated legacy ports to be banished into the outer darkness and denied to all those who might find them useful.

Sorry - you've been corrupted - you may not be using those USB-A ports but they're there, tempting you, and there could come a day when you will think "Hey, that audio interface doesn't even need USB3 so why don't I just use the cable that came with it to connect it to a USB-A port and save a Thunderbolt port... what harm could it do?" and, lo, thou will have forsaken the Perfect Port, fallen from grace and shalt be excommunicated by the First Church of the Reversible SmartPlug.

TL:DNR: If it works for you, that's great - how hard is it to understand that it might not work for other people?

(Plus, its a mini desktop so having a few dongles hanging off the back is not the issue it would be with a laptop).

Oh wow, it's not even released yet and the MacRumors echo chamber already hates it. No surprises here.

Ps, nobody cares about USB A, semi-valid problem in 2016, less so in 2017, in 2018, any peripherals you're buying by now should be C (or it's your own fault), 2019: USB-C is the standard.

Also, I don't want an HDMI and/or VGA port on my Mac, nor do I want ancient USB-A or Ethernet for the small number of cases I use it. I'll happily buy an adapter to do exactly what I want, when I want, and the thinner, lighter Mac will benefit me every day. See, Apple is listening to some of us. And we're not complaining.

Why would they waste money in doing a very recent senseless upgrade that No one cared about if they had in the plans of releasing a 16" Macbook Pro in September-October??

If that is actually true, the person in charge of marketing and design should be fired.
What a waste of money for nothing.

As an actual professional—a rising Twitch variety streamer and celebrity—this needs to be a 4K screen with lots of storage with MagSafe and USB-A ports. It’s good enough for me, it’s a pro machine.

So it’s the replacement for the 15 inch by the sounds of it. Here’s hoping for 6 tb3 ports and maybe a CFExpress slot for photographers.

Because most drives are still USB-A.
Because there are barely drives that are USB-C and those are much more expensive.

USB-b to usb-c cables work.

I would be surprised if this thing starts less than $3999. Apple loves jacking up prices with redesigns lately and the trade war isn't helping.

I hope it’s available before Sept 26th (when the Beats promo ends). I’m in the market for a new laptop but I’d hate to miss out on the promo while waiting to see the cost/specs of the new unit.

You can be positive that it won't be. Maybe it is released on the 27th :D

So, “Pros” don’t want a port with 40Gb/s throughput capable of:

- charging laptop
- converting to any legacy port
- daisy-changing
- driving external displays
- supporting audio
- all of the above simultaneously

And instead want a USB-A port capable of ... USB A?

Here’s the thing. If Apple decide what ports to have, somebody will be pissed. USB-A? Why not HDMI? DVI? MiniDisplay? Ethernet? Line In? FireWire?

You’ve got a port that can literally be any other port you need. What’s the issue? A $4 converter?

I'm holding out on them bringing back the Mini-DVI port. Been buying and hoarding Mini-DVI cables for years. They call me crazy, but some day, I will be the one laughing!

(if it isn't clear, /s)

This concept of macOS would look so cool on a MacBook with minimal screen bezels! Would be a smart move from Apple as well to get the design of macOS in line with iOS and iPadOS.

Very tempting, but I’d probably spend well over $4000 after upgrades and everything. That is if the rumors are true that the entry model will be $3000

Can you stop? I've seen some posts by you that are so distasteful it's obvious you're not as rich as you think you are. I come from old money that would put your medical practice earnings to shame, but you do not see me (or anyone else here) trolling about what they make or what they have. Respect other members too.

That being said, this MBP is exciting for the future of the MBP. I can't wait to see it & buy it; although, '15 is a bit big for me.
Don't kid yourself.
