I don't buy this rumor (pun).

Many people find AirPods do not fit their ears or become uncomfortable to wear. If Apple raises the price of an iPhone to cover the cost of including AirPods, those people will (legitimately) complain about being forced to pay for something they cannot use. And then there are all the people who already have AirPods being compelled to pay more for another pair. And what if you want AirPods Pro? Well you just paid for AirPods so will you then go buy APP? Even if the APs were "free" (so iPhone prices stay the same), that would dampen sales of APPs since people would go "well I already have AirPods now".

Apple will recycle them for those getting the shakes about landfill. Apple also provides battery replacement service as well.
Cool story.
Want to ask me how many of Apple’s (imo) garbage white headphones I’ve tossed over the years.... vs. how many I’ve driven 75 miles to the closest Apple store for the privilege of handing back something I never wanted in the 1st place?

You could then take the number I give you & times it by a few hundred million to get a rough idea of the sheer volume we’re talking about here.

I mean... this entire line of thought is absolutely moot, since I have a better chance of winning the lottery while being struck by lightning, than of having Apple hand out a cash cow product for free.
I was merely giving ADDITIONAL reasons why it’s absurd.
If you don’t like one of the reasons it won’t happen... feel free to embrace one of the many others.

They're turning in record profits on wearables, including AirPods. I don't think they will do this and lose profits from sales, even if it was bundled for extra charge. I would be shocked beyond belief if they did.

Some seriously mixed fortune you have going there!

Let's be honest... AirPods probably don't cost Apple a lot to manufacturer, either.

Depends what you considered a lot. Even in the best case scenario that thing is going to cost Apple $30, quite a lot by Apple Standard. It would have only taken them less than $10 to include a 30W to 50W ultra small fast charger. And they still decided against it.

I doubt they will add $30 into the package.

Not to mention 5G iPhone will sell anyway, and it is a new design. New Design always sells.

If it impacts their profit margin, Apple will avoid giving their customers value for money for as long as they can manage it. Simple as that.
Honestly, if the AirPods are the original 1G model, they're going to be to the point where they're not actually that big of a loss of profit margin.

This only makes sense.

I don’t see it. The lightning EarPods are fine for most users, and I keep a pair for times when I don’t want to chance losing an AirPod or for GarageBand on iOS.

Good! I hope they do! In my opinion, Apple should have included them with the iPhone the whole time. If you’re going to remove the headphone jack from your product then you ought to include the proper wireless alternative in the box, not those useless lighting headphones.
If they do this, I'll finally stop accusing them of dropping the jack only to sell more headphones.

They will already be more expensive next year anyway because of bloody 5G that most people don’t really need!

I can imagine many people would be pissed off.
People in this thread are already pissed off. Like, I have never seen such an adverse reaction to bundled accessories.

I hope not. That would really increase the price of the already crazy priced iPhones.

What I hope they would do, is a bundle discount when purchasing an iPhone with AirPods or AirPods Pro.
I doubt it would increase the price significantly. Apple would eat the cost, which isn't very high to begin with. I just wonder why they'd do this.

It might be a way to get people to choose iPhone vs Android, since nothing competes with AirPods really (I know there are knockoffs, but they all suck), but this still doesn't sound like a good idea.

Apple can copy samsung and bundle them for phone preorders.

And look how that turned out for Samsung when ‘bundling’ the BT earbuds, they’re sales were abysmal. A paired accessory isn't necessarily the answer, it’s more of an incentive. In general, it’s not all about the hardware selling a product, it’s the OS loyalty in which the user prefers.

We all agree we'd rather them bring back the headphone jack first. SMH
Uh, no, we don't all agree with you on that. Like many I appreciate not having one more ingress point for dirt and moisture on my phone and have not missed the headphone jack for one second (I used to occasionally use the lightning adapter). The pro-headphone jack crowd might be loud and proud but I know it is not every user and I seriously doubt it is remotely close to being a majority of users.

Others might, I don’t think Apple will. Just look how long it took Apple to include a better charger

they can raise the price by $100 and justify the increase are bundling AirPods. I think that would suck but you know Apple.

Which raises another question: Does DigiTimes even think about their predictions? Like, when they review supply chains and come up with an idea, do they take a step back and ask themselves if it even makes sense?
In this case: A huge number of people are not interested in headphones / earpods at all. Another large number has just spent money on AirPods and don't need a second pair. It's not the kind of thing that you would bundle with the phone.

Instead of adding them for free (and many many people not appreciating it at all), they could offer them for a low price. That way _some_ people will buy a new iPhone, or buy it earlier than planned, in order to get $250 Airpods a lot cheaper.
