The last refresh was only June, it's no where near. There isn't even a CPU upgrade available from Intel announced yet let alone available and shipping - and even then it won't make any difference to end user performance.
it was leaked tho. It's supposed to be even the same socket as the current i7.

then there's the i9 as well
https://fossbytes.com/intel-core-i9-laptop-processor-leaked-details/

both are 6core.

very likely apple already knows what's up. Very likely it wont be in march. Waiting for the hexacore continues...

edit:

apparently intel already ships cannonlake mobile CPUs to vendors.

In for an iPad Pro that will fully replace my need for a laptop.

Otherwise, I'm out until the new phones and watches show up in the fall.

Where are the times when you could get solid rumours on upcoming products? Where are the leaked prototypes like when the iPad was leaked with an iPhone 4 in the background?! It seems that nowadays it has come down to reasonable speculation of hardware generation cycles...

Hoping they release a new updated iPad Pro..with face ID, etc..I expected it would probably come out around June since that is when the last one came out but March would be even better :)

What does that have to do with iPad FaceID?
Until it isn’t clear exactly where the iPhone problems with Calls and FaceID origin from, I consider FaceID itself unreliable to a certain extent. Could be the interface between the phone and the FaceID modules, a race condition, CPU load problems ... After all it’s still a gen1 functionality, so bugs would not be too uncommon.

Apple refreshes much of its product lineup on an annual basis, and a new report reveals when that process may begin this year.

trio-iphone-ipad-mac-800x471.jpg

Taiwanese website DigiTimes first claims some suppliers are poised to benefit from new or increased orders from Apple to help produce next-generation iPad, MacBook, and Apple Watch models at some point in 2018:The report then replaces Apple Watch with iPhone in the sentence, and says the new products are slated for debut starting in March:The timeframe could simply be a guess based on Apple's new product releases last year. In 2017, the company announced a lower-cost 9.7-inch iPad in March by way of press release, alongside (PRODUCT)RED edition iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus models, and larger 32GB and 128GB storage capacities for iPhone SE.

As a boilerplate disclaimer, DigiTimes does not have a perfect track record. The publication has shared inaccurate information about both what is coming and when on Apple's roadmap, including last year's prediction that Apple would unveil its 10.5-inch iPad Pro at an April event that never transpired.

If the report is accurate, the iPad lineup is likely the most ideal candidate for product refreshes as early as March. The launch of new iPhone and Apple Watch models now seems tied together in September, while Apple hasn't unveiled new notebooks in March since the Early 2015 model 13-inch MacBook Pro.

Apple could also unveil a second-generation iPhone SE in March, which marks the two-year anniversary of the budget device, but KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently cast some doubt on this possibility.

What do I need to do to get a vaguely upgradable Mac Mini in 2018?
FYI, I am willing to consider black magic at this point.

You mean you want it discontinued? Its certainly not going to get any updates, its an obsolete model.
Don't think so. The last "obsolete" model was the 2011 MBP.

My Mac Pro (3,1), early 2008, is considered obsolete by Apple, but the problem is the only acceptable updated model is 6+ years old (Mac Pro 5,1). The Mac Pro 4,1 is not obsolete (yet), but it's only one year newer than my 2008 Mac Pro.

Then there is the black, cylindrical Mac Pro (6,1) that is the most recent model from 2013. 2013!

Again, I'm not talking about "obsolete" in Apple's support status sense. I am talking about obsolete design (just as the original MBP became obsolete when the unibody got released and unibody became obsolete once the retina models were released).

This is what I would like from Apple:

A 12.9" iPad Pro that can run macOS with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse.... and can dock to a 27" screen.... that is what should replace the base model MacBooks.

A update the Apple TV to allow multi-tasking.... I have a 65" screen and would like to have CNN in one corner, ESPN in one corner, my front door security cam in one corner, and my Twitter feed in the other corner.... all that should be simple (built into the OS) and you could use an iPad to control.

And MacBook Pro with better support for all the new AAA games! I hate needing to have a separate XBox to play games.

Yeah know what the next 4 names of Intel chips are going to be, but Cannon Lake is just Kaby Lake in a smaller die - but you'd be lucky to see it even by June, never mind March.

Time between Skylake and Katy Lake tbMBPs: 221 days. Time since: 245 days.

They could move to Kaby Lake-G for power usage improvements and a newer GPU generation.

And Coffee Lake-H is probably around the corner; there were leaked specs a few weeks ago. It’ll move it to six cores.

(Alas, still no 32 GB RAM.)

Yeah but the 9 month MBP refresh was an anomaly not the norm and that was to get back in sync with Intels delayed development - if they don't delay this time, then you'll like see roughly 12 month update cycles - it depends on Intel actually hitting their estimates rather than being delayed. Their processor naming convention and releases are an utter mess at the minute - I can see them trying to simplify things again in the future (maybe)

Best Buy has had the MBP on sale the last few weeks. Maybe the refresh is coming sooner rather than later.

The redesign before that was an anomaly. If you take it out, you get an average of 259 days, or about nine months.

Sure, but nothing keeps Apple from doing stuff aside from Intel’s cycle. They can use Kaby Lake-G right now. They can ship a machine with DDR4 RAM right now.
