Here is the email I just received.
Sketch.png

I used to have satellite an was paying about $150 a month for service (receiver fees, HD fees were half of it along with regional fees). Switched to DTVN because they offered all of the same channels for almost $100 cheaper. The email mentions nothing about a price hike, I guess that is coming next month. When I login to my account it does say my current subscription is no longer offered and for HBO it has a slash through $15 and has $5 instead. My total bill has been $60 a month and says it will renew at that price next month. So we will see. I do not like the $10 price hike, but if I can keep my channel lineup it is still cheaper than what I was paying when I had satellite. Only thing keeping me with DTVN is because they offer the Hallmark channel which my wife likes and History and Science. Hulu offers History and Science but no Hallmark. So for now I will stay, we will see what next month brings and see if they send out another email indicating a price hike. I also like the fact I can stream data free on our phones/tablets when needed. Sometimes at work I will stream a ball game or the news in the background and it is nice knowing it does not count towards my data, because streaming at work is blocked. And with March Madness coming up, I will stream the games like I have done in the past.

Well I haven’t been paid my bill yet until later, but yes, it’s gonna be $55 a month for me next month. Jerks -_-

Within the last hour, I got the email that my Go Big (promotion) price will increase by $10/mo on 5/7/2019. If I stick around that long, I guess that April’s bill will be $40. Most likely, I will change to something else by the end of the month.

I just got an email myself, and I get to keep my promo pricing until 9/11/2019. I have no clue why people are getting to keep their promo pricing for different amounts of time, for example, someone a few posts above me gets their promo pricing until 7/20, someone else only a month. Assuming it has to do with when you signed up, which I did day one, I'll take it.

If you have an early adopter promo, it should not have an end date (for now, anyway).

Hmm, apparently that is not true, per my email:

Hi Shawn,

Starting today, DIRECTV NOW℠ is offering new packages, PLUS and MAX. Each package has a different channel lineup than what you currently have, and both include HBO®.

Go Big is yours to hang on to, even though it’s not available to new customers. However, because programming costs continue to rise, your package will be increasing $10/mo beginning 09/11/2019. As a long-time streamer and early-adopter of DIRECTV NOW, you have an exclusive deal on your Go Big package and continue to save $25/mo on access to over 100 channels.

To see if these packages are a better fit, check out our comparison tool to help make the differences clear. If you do choose a new package, you won’t be able to get Go Big back or the discount you’re used to.

Thank you for streaming with us.

Sincerely,
Your DIRECTV NOW Team

I signed up on day 1 too, but I got an email today that my plan is going up on 5/7 for the Go Big package.

I'm curious why people are getting varying amounts of time before their plans are going up.

You got the same email I did. Your $25 early adopter promo continues. But like everyone else that have the old plans, it goes up by $10. So your original promo discount continues.

I think there's confusion between promo discounting and the $10 increase. They're separate.

I signed up when the service lunched with the $35/month Go Big plan. I dealt with many of the short comings of the service for the price...then they increase by $5. Their DVR service is spotty at best with content won't play with errors 20% of the time. Now they want to charge me $50/month with nothing improved with a lot of baggage. The new Plus and Max plans are significantly worst channel lineup to boot. This service is hardly worth $40/month...at $50/month (which is a grandfathered price) this is insane. Why would anyone ever get this service now!? YouTube TV $40/month...or I could get normal cable TV for $40-50/month.

i wonder if apple's thing is going to be just a netflix clone or if there will be a live TV component.

also who else is getting HBO included with the grandfathered go big pricing? i am paying $40 per month and HBO is in there, though i've never linked my ATT cellphone account nor do i appear to be paying the $5 for HBO (go big was $35 + the $5 price hike, right?). i'm not even sure my ATT cellphone plan would qualify as it is not an "unlimited" plan.

i know HBO was included at first at some point but after a year they took it away. seems it's back for some reason, at least for me.

No, what I was pointing out was why people who are also early adopters are getting varying dates to keep their CURRENT promo pricing BEFORE the $10.00 price hike kicks in. Look at the user "villein" who posted above you. He signed up on day one, same package (Go Big) yet he only gets his promo pricing until May 7. I am just curious why the varying dates?

Confusion here. That date is when the $10 increase occurs, not when the early adopter promo ends. The $10 increase date varies based on different billing dates for everyone, which is based on the date people originally signed up. Everyone who has early adopter promos keeps them and there is no end date for that.

it was already expensive... I like to keep my streaming bill under $30/mo by hopping from different services and binge watching what they offer with iTunes movies and shows sprinkled in sparingly. HD antenna for live sports. DTV was a no-go as soon as the promo period ended. Now they are really piling on the costs. I hope they fail miserably, I don't want other providers to follow suit.

YouTube tv is great at 35. Dvr is stellar.

The cons. Recordings can turn into on demand garbage filled with commercials on some. Sound is stereo. No Dolby. Forwarding and rewinding could be better.

Works great to record sports though or tons of shows for its unlimited dvr. 5-6 accounts.

It’s definitely a nobrainer for now among the options. I usually rotate Netflix, Hulu, in the one streaming extra I budget for and 4K streaming among those is key. Amazon is separate and a bonus as I consider prime a membership fee.

Apple would need 4K hdr at a minimum to toss into the rotation. Even then why not wait for the library to get a lot bigger or see what happens. And sorry but Disney would trump Apple and maybe the others from the start imo.

I can see YouTube matching the cost increase of DirectTV.

I only pay $40.00 for my plan because I get my HBO included with my grandfathered "Go Big" plan, including a third concurrent stream. Yes, "Go Big" was originally $35, and then with the $5 price hike, $40.00.

I do not think you have to "link" your AT&T Wireless account because I did no such thing but get the benefits. Think about it, AT&T owns DirecTV/DirecTV Now, so I am sure they can link your accounts themselves.

I been with Directvnow since it started but I got the email today about the change and had a link for comparison between current and the 2 new packages wow they really got rid of a lot of Ch. and raised the price. I don't even know who would want to sign up for the new package. After looking at different packages like Youtube TV etc I might stick around because Go Big package has a lot of Ch. that no longer available on new packages or on other streaming.

What isn't totally clear is that the "Go Big" seems to have a LOT of channels that are not offered on any plan for new subscribers. https://cdn.directv.com/content/dam...s/compare-packages-account-dynamic-gobig.html

For example, how can a new subscriber get to A&E or Comedy Central or MLB Network? Those, according to the list above, are not available on the two plans.

So yes, those are "grandfathered" in for the existing subscribers but how long until those start dropping off (while the price continues to go up)? Likewise, whatever "discount" you get for being an early adopter is at their liberty to say because there's no "street price" anymore for the tier you're on. They could say that its "$200 minus your $50 early adopter discount" and your option is to take it or leave it.

Or am I missing something?

I cancelled DirectTV Now a few months ago because the $40/month were too expensive for me at that time and I needed to save that money, but I had always planned on coming back. Now they've definitely lost one customer for good.

Now the discounted internet+cable (+App) Spectrum deal becomes actually interesting...

Good point. Given DTVN's volatility and recent extreme actions, I wouldn't be surprised if grandfathered plans along with early adopter promos end in the not too distant future.

Those channels will still be available as the existing original packages have been renamed to match the Directv Satellite packages and cost. If AT&T were smart (they're not) they would offer discounted prices to get satellite viewers into streaming. Instead they are moving streaming prices to match satellite.
