No problems watching live TV here, including prime time.

On-demand and replay features, on the other hand, are less than stable. I think what AT&T should do is to enable logging in to the other TV apps ASAP, so people get reasonable access to on-demand content, and then focus on fixing these features ...

I agree. Works well for me. They support SSO for DIRECTV SAT but not DIRECT NOW. They need to add that ASAP and also support the same Apps that DRECTV SAT does. But they need to move quickly. Sp many OTT Options are coming soon so they really should not wait long. Also, they should at least announce what they are doing (and timing) including plans for a Cloud DVR. Do not keep us in the dark or we will jump ship and may not come back.

Agreed... with DVR coming to Sling (most likely sooner) and being $10 cheaper for essentially the same core channels (for the blue package) I honestly prefer Sling currently. We will see how quick DtvN can be fixed but I'm ready to jump ship as soon as my 3 months are up at this point.

I am on the trial and went to watch the game on Fox and had an error that Fox is unavailable during football. I did not got for the free Apple TV as I only want to be hooked in for the 7 days to give it a try. If I like it I will keep it if not I will cancel. I have had much better performance with Sling TV than this but may give them a bit to iron out the issues.

Few thoughts about the service:

--Almost of all the live TV I watch is sports, and I have the NFL and MLB packages for that. ESPN provides college football. I think something like $35 a month will be the new price point. So many people like me who want the option of having live news and ESPN, and a bit of the other stuff on cable, but paying $100+ per month for it is laughable.

--Is the $5 HBO subscription a pricing test? Makes subscribing a no-brainer.

--I actually think ATT will get into home broadband when 5G rolls out. Then, cable companies will finally have competition. DirectvNOW is the opening shot. Will have completely integrated packages with mobile service, content, and home broadband.

--use my Apple TV for other stuff, and the ability to not have to switch inputs is very nice. Also love the small, simple remote compared to a DVR box. One remote now!

--Congress probably needs to get involved with respect to local channels. Current law gives the local affiliates all the power in negotiation and they only retransmit. It's a complete joke. No value created on their part.

--Service is essentially in beta now but am confident they will quickly work out the kinks. It's effectively free for the first three months with the Apple TV deal.

Further experimentation with package. I have noticed a few things. As many notice the service in evening prime time has glitches (I am in central Illinois with only Comcast as local internet currently, getting 30 Megabits down, 6-7 Megabits up). So the other night my wife was watching on Direct Now Apple TV app (on my 64 GB appleTV 4th gen that I already had). It was mostly fine and it was prime time. But I found when I did the following things with Mac or iPad at same time then I got lots of the QP1502 error issues:

1) downloading files on mac on network would get the usual errors where the apple TV show would hang with freeze frame and the well known QP1502 error.

2) I could be doing FB or file downloads on my iPad Pro and same freeze frame and the well known QP1502 error

3) run my second stream of Direct TV now and the apple TV would eventually get many freeze frames and QP1502 errors I noted also that iPad Pro never had trouble though while the apple TV did obviously the app and iPad deal with share or get better speeds/buffering whatever problem is than apple TV app. As soon as I quit doing anything on Mac or iPad Pro that involved streaming, FB, file downloads -- basically doing nothing on the ipad Pro that apple TV was fine most of the time with only a few of the QP1502 errors that seemed to start again without me exiting the app and reentering that I had to do when the iPad was conflicting.

Conclusion is that the apple TV somehow does not get lions share of the bandwidth of my comcast network with those speeds going on (I tested during the problems so my speeds were normal). Or the iPad pro is just better than apple TV in buffering lots more memory on (it is the 128 GB model FYI) or the apple TV app is damn buggy?

Only test yet to do is run a show on the 64 GB apple TV 4th gen I had at same time my free 32 GB one is going on TV in family room and see what happens. I was hoping that we could have family watching sports or movies or shows while grandkids watched disney, cartoons ect in family room but it seems the sharing of 2 channels is a bit too beta/flaky or AT&T has server issues?

For those checking performance there is a FREE SPEED TEST App for the Apple TV 4 that might be helpful to make sure each Apple TV is getter good download speed.

Seems like they may have an issue with the App, but I think server-side as well.

I have 200 Mbps down and 30 up. Freezing and glitches during prime time with DirecTV Now are the norm for us.

I don't have the freezing issues on Apple TV with third party apps like Netflix, HBO, ABC, NBC, etc...

220 Mbps on my wifi Apple TV 98mbps on the Ethernet machine. Definitely not bandwidth related in my case.

Probably server overload traffic, not an ISP service issue. I think a lot of startup services can experience this when traffic comes on faster than anticipated. Now the question...what will they do to remedy the situation?

I thought it might be an app issue but I ran multiple streams today from 6AM until about 4:30 without incident. Sure enough 4:30 or so I got my first hang which then proceeded to get incrementally worse to the point the service was once again unusable.

So you have ISP that is 6 times faster than me and your Apple TV gets 3 times the download that mine does which is same on Apple TV and iPad and Mac. Is mine too slow?

With your speeds do you see the QP1502 issues much? If so then it seems to be server as next poster mentions. However the fact that it goes away mostly on Apple TV if I am not doing file intensive apps on my mac or iPad at same time what does that say about my system or the directnow file server I wonder.
[doublepost=1481590866][/doublepost]Wow got on AT&T page and the QP 1502 error is causing lots of trouble for them many unhappy folks. And like me they are finding iOS devices more stable it seems to be the Apple TV and its app that is issue. Fire sticks also bad and android same issue I wonder why iOS devices more stable like I also have noted? Better app, device?

More tests using my 32 GB free Apple TV 4 same issues as the 64 GB model I already had. Now in prime time I get from 3-5 minutes and the show watching freezes with the QP1502 error. If I run my two streams on the two Apple TV's then both lock up quickly. If I am running on either and run my iPad Pro and use the directv now app either locks very quickly but iPad Pro keeps on playing so no lockups. It plain and simple is the apple tv's and how they work/don't work with the servers well. Not sure though what the issue is.

It may very well be that there are different servers for different devices. This only happens during "prime time" which seems to start around 4:30 Eastern.

I have seen that QP1502 a few times, but mostly it's a frozen picture while the audio continues.

Well all of a sudden at 8 PM CST here in Illinois I got almost a full hour of watching Mars on National Geographic but now it failed again with no video or sound and the QP1502 error almost like the prime time load ended for a bit.

I get frozen for a bit then black screen and the error message and it fails and does not come back until I back out several times to top of Apple TV screen and restart the app.

Well its 9 PM CST and back to 5 minute failures on Apple TV so for some reason 8-9 I got back to regular ok service then it fails again.

I signed up late Friday, just after services went down for two hours. lol

However, I've only experienced about 3 freezes since then when watching live TV. The rest of the time it's been fairly flawless for me. It's obviously not for everyone but it can't just be the servers are overloaded or else I doubt I would get such a trouble free experience and it can't have too much to do with speed directly as I only have a 16/2 U-Verse connection.

Just signed up for the 3 months sub.
My normal DirecTV subscription is $305 a month w/ Sunday ticket and dropping down to $35 will be fairly nice if the streaming service is at least up to par with Netflix or Hulu.

Either way, I have a good 3 months to figure out if this can replace my current satellite sub.
We're going to try this exclusively for the 3 months and see how the service fairs and make a final determination then.
Maybe before then.

I just know I tried Sling and it definitely wasn't for me, there were plenty of channels that would constantly buffer and was more aggravation than I wanted to experience when just wanting to watch TV. So, only time will tell with this new DTV service.

I don't see it as a great deal until they add the "cloud DVR". If I had to watch everything live, I doubt I would watch much of anything other that sports.

Just got off the phone with the office of the president at AT&T, after I had submitted a Better Business Bureau complaint. Extremely concerning that they don't take their customer's complaints seriously.

Let it be known that prior to this conversation, I had reached out to AT&T to get support for these issues for well over a week, and nothing was resolved. I was promised phone calls and never received any. I was told their Twitter care account would help me only to start the conversation over again at least 10 times. The customer support of this company is absolutely the worst I've ever encountered.

The person on the line informed me that despite what the marketing and help pages say about having shows available within hours after airing, this is up to the networks. While I can understand this to a certain extent, if every single show is showing episodes that are 2-3 weeks old, that's not the fault of the network. It's the fault of the streaming service.

And for 72-hour rewind, that apparently works now, but it didn't until a couple days ago. He denied this completely.

This company has lied, cheated and stolen from its customers. I understand this is a new service, but it's one from the largest TV company on the face of the earth. And if you market it in a certain way, you should at least be held responsible for that. No one should have to pay for a product that isn't as advertised.

With all this said, I'm done with this service, and I will gladly join a class-action lawsuit should anyone decide to go that route. I know I'm not the only one who's completely pissed about them baiting customers.

I felt the need to post this so maybe someone can re-think their decision before signing up for a three-month commitment of this half-baked service. I hope the FCC rips apart this company bit by bit.

Funny if you even mention the word class or law even if you are talking like "I studied law in school and I liked it" the dumb mods actually delete either the post of the "I studied law in school and liked it" even if you are not talking about DirecTV Now at all.
