Can anyone speak on the performance differences of DTVN on the Apple TV vs. the Amazon Fire Stick ?

Do they both stream the service similarly smooth ?

Apple TV is MUCH faster, in both tuning and scrolling the menu. PQ is a tad bit sharper as well. The Fire Stick is an OK solution for spare TV's but I would not want it as my primary device.

Is there a limit on the number of channels I can favorite? I checked the help article, seemed like it was mum about it. Had watch list items at 100, though.

I wonder if there is. I noticed some of my favorites were dropping off, so I reduced the number of favorites. Don't know what the "magic number" is though.

TBH I'm completely confused. I favorited all the channels I cared about, half of them just dropped off in the order I selected them. It was nowhere near 100 favorites, though. I think favorites are tied to the watchlist as well, because for some reason everything on my watchlist just dropped off when I attempted to favorite all the channels I cared about. So I am thinking 100 is a combination number between watchlist and favorites, but I am not even able to favorite anything close to 100 channels without them dropping off.

The app still needs cleaned up, as does that help article. The only reason why I was messing with it is I heard the "what's on now" consists of favorite channels. And to be honest, it's a better way to navigate what's on, as compared to something like the Guide that's available.

I think Hulu is a solid addition, if not just as a supplemental sub until they get On-Demand & TV Anywhere sign on support for more networks.

has anyone tried to get 2 atv4? Maybe signing up under spouse name for the 2nd atv4?

Yes. You just need a separate email account as that is the only thing it's tied to. I picked up two in my own name - just used two separate emails. ATT did not even care a little.

I'm wondering for those of you who prepaid to get the ATV, our period must be coming up soon. Are people still looking to renew when the three month period is up? Or planning to jump ship?

I'm honestly still on the fence. We're still encountering bugs with the on screen TV guide (especially Sunday when I wanted to watch my Hawks on NBCSN). Fortunately we have PS Vue as well. I like the $35/month price, but honestly, we have not made use of the 60+ channels that DTV Now offers.

We have a week and half to go, but there is a good chance I'll switch us to Vue.

I made the leap from DTV to DTVN. Turned off the satellite yesterday as my trial ends this week.

I actually made it a point to NOT use the DVR for the entire trial period to see if I could be satisfied. I was. So two DVRs go back this week and $100/month comes off the AMEX bill.

I cancelled auto-renewal after a month. I'm not seeing any reason to change my mind. My biggest issue is the lack of local channels in DTVN's lineup in my area. I'm in a very rural area in the mountains, so OTA reception is not an option. If I can't get local TV channels via DTVN, I'm better off just paying for cable TV (lowest cost package).

Just got a 3/8 auto-renew email notice today. I will not be renewing, mainly due to the lack of a full set of local live channels and lack of 5.1 sound. I think the system has potential but is just not close enough at this point to drop U-Verse.

I will continue until I see what Hulu offers. My cost is only Net $25 with HBO Go vs. HBO Now for $15. I would like a DVR but that is only on PS Vue at this time and they are much more expensive the $25 and with less content. Example. My wife must have Hallmark and Vue has neither of the 2 Hallmark Channels. I looks at Sling but again much less content about the same or more money and they do not yet have a DVR.

At this time I think DIRECTV Now is the best value for me. I mainly use it for Live TV. My granddaughter is watching the Disney Jr. App using the my DTV NOW credentials.

I am keeping it. The service will improve, DVR will arrive, VOD updates will become more automated and frequent, additional channels should be added over time (ABC is still rolling out). 72 hour rewind will come back. AT&T has deep pockets and this is not something they're taking lightly. Things will eventually roll out, especially more access to TV Anywhere Apps. They have already dramatically improved streaming reliability.

With the TV app on Apple TV, as more TV Anywhere apps and other apps begin supporting it, my viewing experience should improve dramatically with the number of channels available. I already rely on the TV app to give me the heads up on new episodes through a few TV anywhere apps and it's extremely convenient. Having access to as many channels as I do for a mere $35 a month is not something I take lightly. I'm even splitting it, so my price is effectively much lower (though I retain ownership of the account).

AT&T is constantly in talks trying to pick up local channels around the country, so while I am not 100% optimistic about the talks I think there is still a chance more local channels will arrive, but my gut feeling is that it's not happening any time soon.

Eventually VOD for DTVN will roll into the TV app as well as VOD content for new sign-ins from TV anywhere apps.

For now this is a waiting game, and I'll play that. I am patient.

My renewal is coming up at the end of next month.

Ditto. Pretty disappointed in DTVN overall. Lack of DVR, poor picture quality (pixelation which replaced the frozen streams, so they must have done something on the server end), lack of locals, 2 streams, limited and often malfunctioning Guide... But, it is better than just locals over antenna as far as variety, so will see what Hulu comes up with.

My entertainment choices are based on the principal of what I see as value. I have a good home theater setup, so watching quality content has been my goal. As for streaming services, I prefer the DTVN to the satellite. With a decent internet connection, the picture has been great. For now, they are still working menu bugs out. I am sure the experience will improve. I am good with this service, particularly in its' cost for access. I dropped satellite more than 2 years ago, and found other ways to stream what i liked in that time period. The Satellite system was good but the optioned services, which drove the price up, eventually drove my bad attitude to drop the whole thing. Although, without a cable/satellite account, there were channels I did not have access to. This streaming app fixed that. I can live with the $35/mo for the 100 channels. If it were to go to $60, I would drop it in a heartbeat. There are a lot of other options and there is not enough interest to keep it, if the price does get increased.

I cancelled auto-renewal. Reasons:

- Availability of on-demand content is spotty, to put it mildly
- Too many glitches and still occasional freezes (although it seems to get better)
- UI is unintuitive and difficult to navigate
- Too many functional restrictions (like not being able to fast forward/backward in many situations)
- Not DTVN's fault, but live TV sucks due to the way too frequent commercial interruptions

It has potential and the $5 HBO add-on is great, and I'm sure the first four issues will be addressed over time. The last point is probably unfixable though. I'm back to ad-free Hulu and Netflix. The only thing I will miss are live news.

I'm keeping it (for now) unless someone else can get me a better deal than the Go Big $35/month rate I'm currently paying. I spend $1.25/day on way worse things :D

I cancelled mine (will go inactive in March). Lack of DVR, "on demand" of shows I watch, locals, and the freezing was annoying. I ended up getting a double play deal from Comcast, a cable card, and a Tivo Bolt (that I can use later for Over the Air if a better option comes along). Right now, there really isn't any other option for high speed internet in this area, so a package deal with Comcast makes more sense. When more high-speed options are in my area, I will take another look around.

I was happy to get another AppleTV at a discount, though. The AT&T combo is nice if you stream over cellular a lot, but I don't, so it was not enough to keep me around.
