Cut the guy some slack and why is everyone saying it's his fault and it cannot possibly be Apples?

Come on mistakes do happen and Apple make mistakes like any other company out there.

@OP Don't let this experience ruin it for you just give Apple a call and ask them to send a replacement to you asap and hopefully this one will have no dead pixels.

Please write the mathematical expressions to justify your two incredible after tax with AppleCare price claims.

Seems you were the one to make the mistakes. I don't believe you placed the right order and Apple got it wrong, then after hearing you'd have to pay an extra $800 you ignored it and continued with the purchase.

As for the pixel problem, Apple should be able to replace that no problem.

You should just return it.
I'm very curious to how you managed to get a 16GB rMBP+Apple Care for under $2200 after taxes, even after Discover 5% cashback.

I really don't see the problem, return it and get what you want. I mean you might have to wait a couple days for the credit to appear on your discover card but at this point whats a couple more days?

BTW I did the same thing converted to all Apple. Love it.. cost a small fortune though..

Another 3-4 weeks when I need it for school will be difficult but not impossible. It just adds to the frustration.

Holy crap. Why is it so impossible to believe Apple made an administrative error?

What's not clear is if the OP actually thought he'd be getting a 512 SSD for the price of a 256. If so he was naive.

It's not hard to believe there was an administrative error. It IS hard (make that almost impossible) to believe that anyone would see the error several days later and say "Oh well, it's just another $800... no biggie."

Nope.

Disappointment in the dead pixels I get and you absolutely should take it in for a replacement, but the order snafu is on you. It's on you to review your purchase to make sure everything is as intended. Once you discovered the issue you could have contacted them to let them know about the error (which they would have quickly corrected), but you chose to hang the extra expense and go with it.

As far as the whole "shipping today" thing....the initial orders did ship immediately. Once the initial stock sold out that is when the delays started. For you to be in the 3-4 week window means you ordered at least a day after they went on sale. If there was ever an appropriate time for the phrase "you snooze, you lose" it is here.

These types of things happen though with all manufacturers. No sense in getting too upset about these types of things because you're going to run into them everywhere.

I did contact Apple once I figured out their mistake but my only option was to cancel the order and place a new one. Your right, I did choose to go with it but I wasn't too happy about it.

cheap

I got mine for cheaper.

I paid 2180 for a

2.3/16/256 model

Student discount+shipping to deleware= =)

Nope.

It wasn't that it was "no biggie". I needed the notebook for school and if I had to cancel the order and start all over again I wouldn't have it in time for school.

Hopefully, Apple will let me keep my current RMBP until the correct replacement arrives (2.3GHz/256GB/16GB/AppleCare) and then refund the difference.

I'm with Alex on this one. Once the order was placed by Apple it should have showed up on your account with the exact specs and a follow-up email. You had a chance to change it but YOU chose not to.
A little responsibility goes a long way.

1. After placing my order, I realized the “shipping today” announcement was incorrect and that I would have to wait 3-4 weeks to receive my new notebook. This was extremely disappointing considering I needed it for my summer courses. I actually considered canceling my order but decided that I would try to wait it out.

You ordered yours on 6/15?

On 6/12, MacRumors had a front-page article of the Apple Store showing a 2-3 week wait for all models.

Do you have an Apple store nearby? Apple's official policy aside, they might replace it on a case-by-case basis. They did that to a plastic macbook I had a few years back with one dead pixel. I also bought it from there so maybe that had something to do with it. Running a dead pixel checker (with various solid color backgrounds) and examining the retina screen was the first thing I did after turning it on. Zero dead or stuck although a piece of dust gave me a scare for a bit.

IMO a lot of these dead pixel policies that companies have are based on the environment from 10+ years back when it was common for a display to have multiple dead pixels. It's uncommon now, although I think you still have a 33% chance of getting 1 stuck pixel on a laptop display (based on my observational experience).

Is extended warranty not part of the student discount?

Unfortunately not (if you live in the states at least).

But you didn't get AppleCare, meaning you still fall short of the OP's incredible deal.

:p

Also, if you go for in-store pickup in Delaware, will they still charge you sales tax?

I didn't in store, I shipped to a friends =0 and who needs applecare, american express doubles my warranty anyway

I am curious just how obvious 10 dead pixels are. I would think there is noway in hell it would have been let out of the factory with 10 dead pixels. Unless you have to be looking in a micro scope.

Speak with Apple`s customer services, there is no point in banging your head against the wall here, realistically you just need the machine replacing, if it`s 3-4 weeks so be it, it`s not like the 10 dead pixels are going to stop you using the machine, and you can deal with the issue at a later more convient date...

If the original order was an error on Apples behalf, you only needed to advise them, no one forced you to pay the difference, if you get a no from the base level in an organisation common sense tells you that you need to elevate the issue to ensure delivery in time, if however you dont even advise them, well that`s on you.

I thought discussion will develop into "Is it possible to see a single pixel on a display with angular resolution that high?". Strangely, it didn't.

So, I'll just say it. I we're talking about dead, not stuck pixels on IPS display, then pixel is obviously black. Apparent size of pixel would have to be as small as 0.008 arcminutes (compared to 1 arcminute today) not to be visible at all. If we're talking about stuck pixel, apparent size would have to be much smaller than that.

I was pretty much asking this above. How notiecably is it actually?

And op, most people are being told they can keep the rmbp they have until the replacement actually arrives. Try asking about it.

Does your state have sales tax?
Because EDU discount is just $200, but the 16gb upgrades bumps back $180; and AppleCare is another $350.
