Like literally "anything" to soften the blow would be smart by Apple.

Instead, this now figures into the minds of prospective buyers on the front end.

"It's $3500 AND I'll have to hawk it on ebay or facebook eventually to recoup anything out of it at all"
Maybe the reason if they put it on resell they will get flooded with the things & then it would actually show the true reflection of the price point but by not acknowledging it they are turning a blind eye to its failure

When can I trade in my Apple Cleaning Cloth?
It’s already clocked over 1,000 wipe cycles, so I figure I’m due for an upgrade. Using the same trade-in math that got my Vision Pro valued at $0, I’m expecting at least a few cents — maybe even store credit toward the Cleaning Cloth Ultra(now featuring 20% faster smudge removal and Dynamic Texture)

Genuinely feel bad for anybody who paid ~4200 for this thing at launch after tax and accessories, only for it to be worthless at trade-in for the new model like 18 months later. At least for a $4200 macbook pro they offer you like 1700 towards a new one.

Even if you were rich enough where 4200 was just an impulse buy for a fun casual toy that stays in your living room, I still feel bad for you.

Biggest apple flop up there with the Cube, Ping, Siri, Newton, and the 2013 mac pro

It's impressive how Apple has burned everyone who ever invested in the Vision Pro. App developers spent time and money on a platform that (so far) has not materialized, and early adopters are asked once again to fork over $3,500+ for something that still has fewer mainstream apps than an iPad.

Vision Pro owners don't have to upgrade right now, and used headsets are still selling on Swappa and eBay, but Apple is really trying its hardest to kill any potential market for this thing.

not really. some of us saved for it and sacrificed other stuff for it. it really is an amazing device and I don't regret buying it but it was a big chunk of change
Too rich for my blood, but I did the demo at an Apple Store recently and I can say confidently I'd pick one up down the road when they get cheaper (and hopefully much lighter). It's definitely a thing you have to use to appreciate, IMO.

Never get a first gen Apple product. I alway's knew I woud eventually be getting Vision Pro's if they are able to get content. Now it's if they will still be around.

Yet more proof that this thing is purely aimed at/afforded by the idle rich! Its SO expensive and without the ability to trade in then its even less affordable as an upgrade than it could have been.

No trade in will just mean that only the richest who dont care will be able to afford to upgrade.

Maybe Apple or their partners feel that the sales figures of the Vision Pro (brand new) point to sales of older, refurbished models being too low to bother with.
Agreed. The relatively low sales (and lower potential trade ins) means the effort for third-party companies (that process Apple trade-ins) setting up procedures for evaluating the condition of units, training staff, and developing a reverse logistics operation to recover materials for recycling (or refurbish and resell products) isn’t going to make financial sense.

TLDR: the juice ain't worth the squeeze.

The Apple Vision Pro has multiple modular pieces unlike most devices. The main unit, light seal, face pad, speaker pods, head strap/s and battery.

Odds are Apple would only want and accept the main unit, speaker pods and battery which would be a uniquely complex trade-in process and inspection process on their end. They honestly didn't think the overhead and complexity was worth it seems. You’ll get a better deal anyway selling independently.

This is both sad and hilarious. I'm sorry to all those that bought into the hype and are now suffering the consequences.
Why would you feel sorry for someone that bought a Vision Pro when they should have done proper research rather than just buying the item because it’s apple that made it

I don’t understand the entitlement of everyone expecting a trade-in on any product really. It’s amazing Apple has a trade-in program at all for any of their products today. People expect a free lunch too. Mind you no VR/MR or AR product from any company has or had a trade-in program to my knowledge.

It’s not about a free lunch because to purchase the thing is over $3,000 is it not
However to not offer a trade is a bit scandalous when this is supposed to be tomorrow’s tech today

I think you're mapping on some feelings that perhaps aren't fully accurate or representative of actual views.

There is resale value for AVPs (for everything!) and it'd just be smart overall, I think, for Apple to have some sort of trade-in plan here, even if a really poor value.

For many folks, the process of reselling in person or online is an incredible turn off, especially in this day and age and the scams and how people behave, etc ... and the Apple alternatives are highly desired.

Having nothing at all, particularly on something this niche and expensive to begin with, honestly just serves as a further deterrent to ever purchasing in the first place.
