Its called bleeding edge for a reason, and while I can be sympathetic to owner's plights, buying something so different and expensive comes with the risks. As per the other rumors, I do expect Apple to pivot away from the AVP, no matter how you slice it, this product has not been successful.

LOL

Don’t feel bad for those who bought one. They obviously have more money than brains so they’ll be fine. Idiots will probably not even care and have already ordered the new M5 model.

I don’t understand the entitlement of everyone expecting a trade-in on any product really. It’s amazing Apple has a trade-in program at all for any of their products today. People expect a free lunch too. Mind you no VR/MR or AR product from any company has or had a trade-in program to my knowledge.
In all seriousness its not entitlement but good business sense. Apple has chosen to piss off every single customer who bought the AVP. Many of whom were willing to trade in their current headset and give apple more money. Now Apple has lost that sale. Yes, the net profit of the new headset would be a lot lower with a trade in program, but they'd have happy dedicated customers, now they'll have even less sales and current owners are upset.

That really says a lot about how AVP is going. They don't want to buy the devices back. Or they are so worried that so many people would try to get an easy $1k or something just to offload their AVP that has been collecting dust.

IMO, this is bad faith from Apple and is another red herring that AVP is not worth touching.

It really needs a killer app(s). An M5 is not going to solve that problem.

They would've offered less than you can get selling it privately anyway which you can still do since it is not worthless.

Selling anything privately on ebay, over $100, is a massive, massive liability trap. Buyers are constantly scamming you and ebay sides with them every time and you end up losing your item + getting charged back for it.

Selling anything privately through swappa is kinda mid after all the fees and dealing with paypal and all the phone stores undercutting you.

Selling anything privately through craigslist or FBM over $500 is just asking to get robbed at gunpoint.

This would be a fascinating experiment to run ..

If Apple offered $1k as a trade in ... I do really wonder how many would jump ship, eat the loss, and just be happy they easily & safely got some meaningful amount back for the thing.

I guarantee there are a lot of remorseful owners out there who aren't here posting about the mistake they made.
It takes a unique individual to want to own up to such a mistake publicly. I don't blame them for not doing so.

I hold a doctorate, and at age 58, I have additional funds for hobbies and am anything but an "idiot". Stating that folks who purchased the AVP "have more money than brains" and calling them "idiots" says more about you than it does anyone else.

Your post reeks of someone who is bitter and lashing out because their minimum wage job at The Gap doesn't provide the financial resources needed to purchase one.

How great thou apple are!! You take 5000.- from your customers for one piece of apple. Then you come with one that actually works, declare yours beeing crap. Not only you take the crap of the marked but you make shure they wont come back to you either!!
I wonder what Steve is doing right now? Beeing dizzy from turning?

I quite like the concept of the Vision Pro. I do hear stories about them being heavy to wear etc but since we don’t have them in Belgium, I have no experience.

I do my work on a MBP hooked up to 2 27” Studio Displays. I love my setup, but having some sort of goggles being able to display (a minimum of) 2 virtual monitors, eliminating the need for real monitors would be very compelling. Doing work at a customer site? Take the MBP and goggles and you’re all set.

Of course the price would have to be right and it would have to be comfortable enough.

The Vision Pro goes a long way towards that although I’m not sure how many virtual screens it can handle and how the experience is of working like that. What bothers me about the Vision Pro is the overengineering on some of the bits. The fact that it shows a virtual version of your eyes to the outside world etc … that just feels gimmick-y with little added value.

What goes on in the UI if you wear them does look interesting.

They probably had the M5 update already in production before Meta/Zuck showed their glasses.

If I had the original Vision PRO and didn’t like it, the best long-term option is to put them back in the box, store them in the attic, pass them on to your kids and tell them to sell it in 30 years or so.

And hope there’s a collector with cash who will offer an insane price for it. By then, it will be a relic. Just like the people today who pay insane money for an original iMac or something. 😃

It's a dead platform, and was dead on arrival too. Nobody's making apps or content for it unless Apple pays them to. Nobody's using the device because its goofy and hiliarously unwieldly.

They know its a dead platform because as you said, they aren't offering trade-ins for it meaning they know they can't sell it as a refurb.

This thing should have just been a $3500 devkit available only to Developer accounts from the start, with available demos to the public at apple stores for free, and then all the tech they learned can go to the inevitible smart glasses that run visionOS.

A $3500 consumer device is *insane*, even if it was released at the height of an asset bubble. If it was sold at a loss for 999 or 1799 it would have actually done maybe ipad mini numbers.

Apple logic - if you can afford a 3,500 VR headset that doesn't do much of anything, you can afford to buy a second one that does nothing faster :p
yeah, just like computers I guess..who would need one..

TBF, I don’t really buy electronics with the expectation of “trade-in” later.

BUT, it seems to me if investors were able to ask how many of the new model sold were trade-ins, they may end up questioning the product more openly/directly. Let’s face it, if this forum is any indication, those who bought V1 love them, and almost joe one else does.

The "quiet ones" (not posting here) are the interesting data to me.

They should run a $1k trade-in program just to see how many suddenly get turned in by folks not using it and wishing they hadn't bought it.

It would be more good data for them to have.
