The dozens of people who bought it must be devastated.

Also: another Exhibit item for not buying any Gen 1 Apple product

The outrage here amuses me. Who buys Apple products with an expectation of a significant buy-back on upgrade? Do they expect a nice return for other products in their life? From Denon or Onkyo or Sony? The MacRumors audience is so desperate for things to complain about.
I don't see any outrage so far but a lot of laughing as in "haha this is not a joke, right?"

Turns out it's $0.00 value.
Good one!
However, it may benefit Apple to offer some trade-in value for upgraders, even if it has little real value and cannot be resold for much. It would essentially be a loyalty discount for upgraders. Apple would not be doing this out of kindness, but because it is better to sell another vision pro to an upgrader for a reduced price, than not sell it at all.
I bet this goes on with iPhone trade-in values already, which often seem overly generous to me. It encourages people to upgrade more often.

Just for upgraders to another AVP or for anyone who owns one and just wants to trade it in and get out?

Reddit users claim the Trade-In program is coming (per chats with Apple reps).

Good to see, assuming it's true.
I'm wondering whether Apple will resell these refurbished ones for a very steep discount (like 50% off) to attract new customers to the platform or if they'll do their usual 10-20% discount over new.

They may as well charge $5k for the thing.
They functionally do. By the time I put 1 TB storage in my OG AVP, got Zeiss prescription lenses, a second battery, case, and third party over-the-head strap (Belkin), I ended up forking over nearly $5K for it.

I love it, but there is no way I'll be spending the $$$ to get a faster one, even if there WERE a trade-in path. No trade-in makes assurance doubly sure. No way, Jose.

I know where my bets are placed! :p

"Not Available for Trade-In"

Tell us it's not worth very much without telling us.... I want Apple to keep innovating because I think Apple Vision has the potential to be something awesome, but this decision is not filling me with confidence.

Good to know about this. Don’t know how many will be trading in or upgrading their Vision Pro. Don’t see any reason to do so.

The AVP has the same trade-in value as Apple’s illustrious polishing cloth…at least the suckers who bought the polishing cloth aren’t out a few g’s!!!

I don't think there really is a target market now, they couldn't leave it on M2 and no refresh would be an embarrassing admission of defeat for a product they really wanted to be a hit over time and price cycle.

Too big, too heavy, too expensive and no killer apps.

Im sure they’ve learned some useful stuff from the exercise but it really is a pretty epic commercial failure.

I wish they’d moved forward with the car rather than this.
…You don’t get much of a mainstream pulse of a product based on a product not meant for most people.

Mainstream sale numbers are NOT the success metric for the Vision Pro, Pro Display XDR, Mac Studio, and more.

More able to trickle down their tech at out of reach prices to an eventual mainstream product like the XDR screen tech on all flagship prosumer products with a screen is more of their idea of success.

Vision Pro’s takeaways and experience making a good spatial computing product with minimal compromises is invaluable towards making mainstream option for engineers and designers rather than doing the opposite.

Even game devs are doing this.

Mainstream / budget buyers feel a type of way waiting, but the world doesn’t always revolve around them (look at the GPU market). They’ll live.

You think Porsche Teycan buyers give a pulse of the overall EV Sedan market? You think Nvidia 5090 buyers give a pulse of what budget GPU gamers decide to settle with (some desperate to play on anything that boots up an operating system)?

Dumb for you perhaps which is fine: The most productive way to use a and iPad apps on-the-go is a Vision Pro with its 5K2K and spatial capabilities.

You cannot multi-task or be able to privately compute or watch 3D movies better than a Vision Pro within Apple’s ecosystem and most traditional hardware ecosystems.
