Netflix has debt-goo poring out of their ears Cronenberg-style. They are one of the best for sure, and I'd take Netflix or HBOmax or almost anything rather than Disney+ (I don't have kids, and Marvel is not my thing). Even if it's just a hobby for Apple it's an expensive hobby, as is building cars... They have way to much money.
I doubt anyone cares about Netflix ‘debt’, when they literally are printing money left and right with what they’ve been producing the last 48 months. As you said, they are one of the best, but look what the net is versus just what they’re spending.

I don't either, I meant it more as a comment to why Apple seems to only dip its golden toes in the cesspool that is streaming.

I hate that in some countries, soon before Disney+ launched, Disney straight up took out ALL of their movies from the iTunes store, leaving us Apple TV users with no way to purchase them to watch freely... Yes even Fox movies and properties like Alien and Predator, Terminator, etc... I'm guessing to force people into subscribing to Disney+.. (thankfully I had most of the ones I wanted in my collection already)

Yet in the US they still sell them on iTunes no problem... Seems almost like racism to me but ok...

Not to worry Disney, more incentive to just... seek "other means" to possess these movies. ? ;)

I really do hate arbitrary discrimination like this and they also gave a big punch to the Apple TV potential market in these countries who want to use the Apple TV like it was originally concieved to.

Why no mention of Amazon? Amazon has over 200 million Prime subscribers worldwide which means over 200 million Prime video subscribers.
I have Prime video installed on five devices and I always forget about it.

I wonder how many people have never even bothered to use it.

Apple TV is overpriced. Should be a value added to the purchase of a device for 1 year. But now they are charging me, I truly find it Uber lacking. Very few shows, very good production value, but writing of a 80s show. Not all, but many have a super controlled guide about what can be said, some have terrible actors, the product placement is exaggerated, some scripts feel made to please most, but end up mediocre.
I just keep it for Servant and Lasso. When Apple cancels Servant it before it’s correct time, then I will cancel my subscription. I don’t know how Apple is not including more good content, the over priced movies they bring are so few and mediocre that makes me angry that 90% of my pay is gone to waste.

Of course, the fact that Disney had a huge library behind it of content going back decades, and a massive slate of movies in the pipeline had absolutly nothing to do wih that, right?
That's got nothing to do with what I'm talking about - you're referring to the success of Disney's service whereas I'm replying to the snarky comment that implied Disney is only doing well because everyone is on a free plan, which is not the case.

This is amazing. That's basically a billion dollars each month. Disney's most successful movies do one billion box office, of which probably half goes to the studio.

CNBC is calling these numbers “slowing.” Not the same glowing take as MacRumors

I signed up for Disney+ right when it launched at $69.99/year and even at $79.99, it’s a great deal!

It’s a great service. I’m glad they are still able to keep the price cheap when purchased on a yearly subscription
I did the pre-launch promo, it was like $2/mo. for three years.

How do you get a billion dollars per month?

As of Oct. 2, 2021, Disney+ had 118.1 million subscribers where the average monthly revenue per paid subscriber (ARPU) is $4.12

118.1 million subscribers x $4.12 = $486,572,000 per month

It's not even $1 billion per month if you include ESPN+ which had 17.1 million subscribers paying an average of $4.74 = $81,054,000

You'd have to include all Hulu subscibers (43.8 million subscribers x $84.89 = $3,718,182,000)

Disney+ subscriber growth slowing because they picked up a lot of subscribers during past 1.8 years.

Disney+ subsciber growth seem to be coming mainly from outside the U.S. now too since the average monthly revenue per paid subscriber decline by 9% from $4.52 a year ago to $4.12. Those cheaper overseas subscribers (Disney+ Hotstar) dragging down the average monthly revenue.

Why no mention of Amazon? Amazon has over 200 million Prime subscribers worldwide which means over 200 million Prime video subscribers.

But isn’t that assuming they all watch Amazon content? Speedier delivery is a far more attractive reason to buy Prime than their video content for a lot of people, especially considering most of what gets recommended on Amazon is an up-sell to rent, buy or subscribe to another channel within the service.

I'll just get my Disney+ subscription to go with my Netflix Subscription, my HBO Max subscription, my Instagram subscription, my Amazon Prime subscription, my Office 365 subscription, my YouTube Red subscription, my Abode Creative Cloud subscription, my Cinema 4D subscription, my Apple One subscription... if you need me I'll be living under a bridge in a cardboard box with the URL of my Go Fund Me page written on the side.

It's not just about quantity, but quality.
The Mandalorian, Loki, and Wanda Vision are much better tv shows than any apple's ones.
Stories have to be great. If I were to decide, I'd spend a lot more on story-writing to come up with much more interesting, less cliché stories.

I’m not 7 years old and I doubt if Disney+ has any shows like Narcos or El Chapob. I’ve given Disney+ as a Christmas present tomy niece’s little kids. Have had access to one of the allowed streams myself - looked and deleted it from all of my Apple devices.

But hey, whenever Disney starts offering zombie programming, I’ll jump - otherwise, there isn’t anything there that appeals to me.

(all the power to them, but I’m ok w/Netflix and Shudder for streaming video)

I've had Disney+ for 18 months now and not paid for it at all.. 6months gift from work, 12 months with my mobile phone sim and am about to get another 6 months free with the wife's sim deal. Guarantee I'm not the only one and when in 6 mnths it comes up I suspect we will not renew and use another service for a bit. Too many subscription services and I'm not watching enough to need them.

The integration with Star gives more adult content - American Horror Story, The Walking Dead, What we do in the shadows etc. Not as much as netflix but there is content there

When I checked it, it says it's 8$ per month right now. I didn't know there were different sub tiers.

Both services combined are worth at most $0.02 USD per month. The goose stepping mouse owns a large percentage of the entertainment industry, but unless you have children or like Star Wars they don't really have much of interest, and ESPN+ is the biggest ripoff imaginable. TV+ has almost no material to stream, and unless you are a Millennial or Gen Z person they have little of interest. I tried both at some point, found both to be worthless for my tastes.
