When I checked it, it says it's 8$ per month right now. I didn't know there were different sub tiers.
It may be $7.99 USD per month for you. But it's not $7.99 USD per month in India, Ecuador, Singapore, Iceland, etc.

In other words, not every one of the 118.1 million Disney+ subscribers is paying $7.99 USD per month. That's why Disney states what the average monthly revenue per paid subscriber is.

I have had apple + tv or whatever is called for the about a year (free trial). Only once have i used it. It just doesnr compete with netflix, hulu, disney.

I signed up for Disney+ right when it launched at $69.99/year and even at $79.99, it’s a great deal!

It’s a great service. I’m glad they are still able to keep the price cheap when purchased on a yearly subscription
There was a better deal when it launched , it was 150.00 for 3 years

Disney would have at least one more subscriber if they had released the service to Greece as well. But for now …arrrr ?‍☠️

More than happy with the service and 4k delivery. Disney are now releasing 4k versions for the iTunes purchases as well, which is nice for the cheap deals if I leave Disney. They held that all back pre service start, obvious they were doing it.

The integration with Star gives more adult content - American Horror Story, The Walking Dead, What we do in the shadows etc. Not as much as netflix but there is content there

I hear you. Didn’t like AHS, have the blu-rays for The Walking Dead and Star Wars. Er, ah….I was ‘removed’ from SW77 and walked out of (The Empire Strikes Back, that’s the 2nd one?). Not opposed to Disney+, and am gifting it again at Xmas this year.

Just not into any of the Marvel or DC comic > movie adaptations. Didn’t know about ‘what we do in the shadows’. How adult is it?

thanks

Tom

Can honestly say that with a choice between Netflix and Disney - Netflix wins hands down. Disney+ (at least to me) was a complete waste of money and rarely is ever turned on. Actually i think the only program Ive watched on there is Free Solo. I won't be renewing.

That's funny because I have the exact opposite experience. I forget that I have Netflix because the app is so outdated and when I finally go in to see what they have it feels like I am digging through one of those Walmart DVD bins.

I still remember at the launch of Disney+ there were many MR comments suggesting how Apple TV+ is so great Disney wont stand a chance.

And Oh, Disney+ is still not fully launched globally due to licensing agreements in many different places. I could only hope Netflix and Disney continue to improve and grab more market shares.

Waitwhatwhenhow?
That was never going to happen, I had ATV+ purely as a freebie and didn't watch more than a few shows, not renewed. The back catalogue is a big draw, something Apple seems to be trying its best to avoid. In my second year of subs with the mouse now.

I personally don't like long gaps between series seasons.

Also, Disney is a gain for parents: Cheaper than cable, runs on any device. Their kid can watch on a mobile device without hogging the family TV, so parents can watch something else. It can be watch in the car, and any other place. The cheapest nanny ever.

Yea, Queen's Gambit, The Crown, Cobra Kai, Stranger Things, Squid Games, and Lost in Space are all Walmart specials?

I get that everyone has different opinions and are free to like or dislike anything they want, too many people (at least on this forum) repeat the blatantly wrong statement that "Everything on Netflix is trash" Netflix has way more "water cooler talk" shows than any other streaming service than service, except maybe Disney+

When it comes to steaming shows, I would aruge that Apple TV+ only has one water cooler show, Ted Lasso. You could maybe add The Morning Show, but i think that is only becuase of the stars, not the show itself. That is not saying that their aren't other good shows (I am fan of Dickensen & FAMK), but they don't generate the buzz of Disney+ and Netflix.

Because Disney is only for Kids so who the hell is going with Disney?
And because Apple has 1 Billion iPhone user they are going to go to 100M Apple TV+ subscriber very quickly. Disney stands no chance, that is why it is so cheap. LOL

Do not underestimate the standard of MR Comments.

I don't know if it's been said but there's NO WAY Apple will match Disney's content, not in ten years at the very bare minimum.

Disney+'s only real rival is HBO Max, which I consider the better of the two services and my base service.

AppleTV+ has a few truly great shows (Ted Lasso was worth the admission alone for a month), no question, but Disney + Pixar + Marvel + Star Wars + even Nat Geo and the Pirates franchise = Apple getting decimated by Disney+.

That said, I don't consider these services in real competition, since you can turn the services on/off every month. Just binge for a month then kill it and move to the next service.

Me and the wife are serial Disney+ content repeat viewers (my youngest kid is 17), and combined with my hardcore Marvel and Star Wars fanboyism, it ain't going nowhere.

THIS.

While I consider HBO Max my base service, Netflix was it for a LONG time.

People complain because Netflix has a LOT of content, but their first party content is usually VERY good, and they are EXTREMELY wise in picking up good series that die in network TV and breathe new life into them or conclude them properly.

In addition to your list I have some faves:

Lucifer
Peaky Blinders
Black Mirror
The Killing
Longmire
Daredevil
Iron Fist (weak but I'm a comic fan)
Jessica Jones
Luke Cage
(upcoming) Cowboy Bebop
Dave Chappelle
Bo Burnham
Love, Death and Robots
Castlevania
The * That Made Us
The Clone Wars

I could go on... :)

Why would you say 10 years? Will apple, at this anemic pace, somehow create enough shows to overshadow Disney? It’s not as it Disney will be asleep at the wheel either. Disney has decades of shows. The gap only gets bigger as we go.

Does anyone yet see how silly it is to keep comparing atv to other services? This comparison doesn’t get better over time. Apple isn’t trying to compete. It serves to get users to use the tv (shopping) app.

I was just throwing a large figure out, but you're right. It'll never be large enough.

And I agree that Apple isn't trying to compete in that space really. The AppleTV+ service is just another excuse among a bazillion to use Apple devices, and thus, services.

That's why it's cheap. Apple is basically "bundling" this with every other ecosystem feature, and advertising their own products within it.

Sorry I have a life and job. I didn't have time to review every Netflix show I have watched. But I can promise you that I have watched and enjoyed way more shows on Netflix than I have on Apple TV+. (Again, for risk of being labeled an Apple hater, there a several shows on Apple TV+ that I watch and enjoy) I am much more likely to try something on Netflix than I am on AppleTV+

You missed the point. Even if there is one good movie for every hundred that’s a lot garbage to filter through. Hence the digging through a Walmart dvd bin analogy. Sure, there might be good stuff on Netflix but it’s not a treasure trove.

Also, why are you talking about Apple TV+?

This is because Disney is trying to tightrope walk what should and should not go in the platform and the rest goes to hulu. But then you have all these borderline things like Marvel and Simpsons and some Star Wars to try to force “adults” into a bundle situation rather than having them on hulu+ and Disney both, which they could easily do.

Exclusive to X creates a situation where you either “miss out” or pay $50 a month for all the services + live TV fees if you want, with lots of forced commercials even in places you are paying for content.

They do that now, they have Apple bundle that has everything
While you’re the second person to suggest this in reply to my post this is not what I mean. I mean in the way that people pay for a single Amazon service (prime shipping) they get access to all of Amazon’s stuff they should get access to Apple TV + for having a paid iCloud account and nothing more.

No huge bundle, no tiered plans, no anything like that. Just pay for iCloud and you get the choice of a streaming service as a free bonus (e.g. Apple Music or Apple TV) for as long as you pay for iCloud.
