Is Apple making hard for people to get the Disney+ app? I literally thought I was doing something wrong when on both my ATV4K and my iPhone, I search for "Disney+" and...nothing.

Come to find out, on my iPhone, Disney+ app was #30 down a list of apps. Literally searched for "Disney+" and it was #30 down the list!

Same, but not quite so lost on the ATV.

Is there some shenanigans going on here?

And, the Disney+ site should have links to the apps so you can at least know what you're searching for. Instead they just list devices, but no links to apps FOR those devices.

No free trial with this one, eh? I suppose you could burn through the interesting parts of their back catalogue in a month, easily.

Really? I would have thought they would've offered at least a seven day free trial. But then again, it's Disney.

I guess that's the blessing with Apple in this situation. Apple doesn't have a massive backlog of content like Disney, so they had to make sure that their originals were absolutely incredible (which they are). But that backlog of content has caused Disney to rest on its laurels, as it were. The thing is, most adults I know (including myself) wouldn't sign up for old content.

The Disney backlog ultimately stings, as I could have watched all/most of this backlog on Netflix, etc., before Disney removed them for their own service.

One new episode of Mandalorian a week (plus 4 kid reality shows, an adolescent high school musical - which doesn't have the Dickinson appeal to this adult, and an intriguing Jeff Goldblum series) are simply not enough. Disney had to launch with at least one Marvel series to even stand a chance. I'll give this another shot in a couple months when there is more original content.
If you’re trying to make this an Apple vs Disney debate, it’s not even close. Disney is the content king.

$12 gets you almost every Disney / Lucasfilm / Marvel movie ever made, some good original content, and access to original Hulu content. National Geographic. Throw in ESPN. That’s a damn good deal.

Can’t knock Disney Plus for lack of good content. The content may not be of interest, but the quality of content is unparelled.

You state the Apple content is incredible, but that hasn’t been the popular opinion. It’s lukewarm from my eyes and extremely limited.

Lastly, the “Netflix backlog” comment is simply not true. Netflix hand a limited collection of Disney content that would come and go. The content being provided on Disney Plus is consistent and unwavering.

Hmm well, it installed but cannot connect. Wonder since all the studio acquisitions they forgot to buy some network datacenters.....

You are incorrect on the Apple TV reception. Look at the glowing user reviews on rotten tomatoes. the critics have an ax to grind with Apple or there’s something else going on there - the disparity is shocking. Apple’s originals are of much much much higher quality and caliber than Disney’s, so far. Not even close. Ghostwriter and Helpsters already destroy Forky and Pixar IRL and marvel heroes. Oprah’s book club is better than Jeff Goldblum’s take on the world. Dickinson is better than High School Musical and Noelle. And there are no comparables for See, TMS and FAM. Disney will never put sex, heavy/profane language, and adult content in their originals. Disney is not geared to adults with taste (people who enjoy HBO quality TV).

Disney is the king of old content that I have seen years ago. They have big IP that they will develop for this service over time - for the next 6 months, it’s a wasteland.

If that's the way you feel, don't get Netflix.

I think it's a mistake to assume what works for you, works for everyone.

It's similar to people who say not to buy Apple products since they believe that Apple products are inferior.

Was speaking for myself, not generalizing for the masses. It was presented as a question. Just for background I’ve owned a few half baked Apple Products since my first Apple IIe in 1984 running Apple DOS 3.3.

Don‘t assume. ;)

Yeah, it's really well hidden.

I went to the web site and it directs you to the app.

The same on Fire TV devices. It's on the main header, but it's directing you to sign up for the Disney/Hulu/ESPN package. I had to scour down towards the bottom at streaming apps, and it's like 8th presented. From there I could log in on my account.

It is nice though for Fire & Apple TV, if you open the app that you are signed in and on your network, it signs you in on Fire or Apple TV.

You're standards are somewhat lower than others I suppose. Of the series I've watched, none are "absolutely incredible".

No, my standards are sky high. I watch HBO quality TV and I expect my TV to compare with that level of quality. I simply don’t have time to waste on mediocre or milquetoast television (my problem with most of Netflix). Time is money. My entertainment time is very valuable to me.

What do people like so much that Disney has to offer? Honestly curious, not trying to start any fights

There is a lot of children’s content of course. There is also the Star Wars and Marvel movies. There is Pixar movies. Disney also released some non G rated movies under other studio name like Touchstone, so many people are unaware those are Disney films. Disney owns ABC And ESPN. Disney recently bought the Fox catalogue so they have a lot of movies and TV shows from that. They really control a lot of content. With existing licensing deals some of that content may be on other streaming platforms but they will likely move the content to their platform.

Yes, I did notice that on my ATV that it said to sign in to my mobile device and it would log in automatically on ATV, so I tried it and it worked.

BUT, when you literally type in "Disney+" which is exactly the name of the app and it's #30 down the list of found apps, something smells fishy.

I didn't see anything on the Disneyplus website for apps. I only found "How to watch" in teeny tiny print at the very bottom of the main page (once signed in).

How strange. I typed in “Dis” and Disney+ was the third option in the list - not 30th.

"HBO quality TV" is an oxymoron in our house. To each their own, I suppose.

Like I said, neither service is making it easy. Which is understandable, it is the competition.

For me, when I went to the site the countdown clock had just been replaced, and a link directing you to the app was there.

No one’s trying to convince you to get content you’re not interested in, but your argument is incredibly out of whack and out of touch. This much is apparent. No further conversation necessary.
