I signed up for a free year through the Verizon app a couple hours ago, up and running quickly with no hiccups. D+ app has a couple minor bugs, no better or worse than Apple in that regard. Interface seems a little better. Content is obviously crazy good already with the backlog. ATV+ definitely still takes the cake in streaming quality. It looks like iOS/iPad is only giving me HD, I guess 4K is reserved for ATV devices? (If this was already discussed, sorry, didn't have time to read the whole thread.)

It's competition if you have to decide on either Apple TV or Disney+.

I personally went with Disney.

Sure but Apple wins either way. 2 a month is pure profit. Makes you wonder why Apple is not promoting Disney in App Store. Getting the initial signup is key through iTunes.

I call shenanigans by Apple.

I just went onto the App Store on my iPhone, specifically searched for "Disney+" to download it, and it's located 30 apps down the list. I almost thought the app wasn't out yet.

Intentional burying, perhaps?

Haha, I just saw your comment a couple pages back. Same for me. Looks like Apple is playing games.
Search for Disney with a space, and then '+' or 'plus', and it's the first on the list. Disney has a lot of apps for a lot of different things that have been around for ages. Apple's listings probably don't update for trending popularity but every day or so.

EDIT... Actually now it's coming up first either way for me, so their search results have already been updated. I did have the same thing happen as you this morning though.

In video quality there is a comparison and ATV+ takes the crown. It's no contest. You can look at the bitrates and see a pretty large difference there alone. Even my own eyeball test shows a big quality difference between the two. Disney+ looks more like Netflix. ATV+ looks more like a disc played on my oppo 203.

As a service I don't think they can be compared. Disney has a century of content. So they're going to have more out of the gate. However the only series I see worth watching(currently available) is the mandalorian. And by now most of us own all those movies they have. I have all the star wars and marvel movies and many of the others they have.

ATV+ has to build content from the ground up. Netflix used everyone elses content for many years before they started building up their own library so they had an easy start.
This is the correct take/analysis on the entire situation. If I could give gold for a comment on these forums, I would do so. Bravo, Sir. Bravo.

Disney+ can not handle the load... good and back problem to have. Poor ATV+ they wish they had that problem, Tim Cook should of tried hard to make the Disney and Apple deal work.

Verizon Wireless users can go to the VZ app or site to sign up for your free year. I personally am going to wait till the weekend, since you pretty much will have a hard time watching anything with the huge load of people joining right now. Might as well wait to start your free 1yr

It doesn't make me wonder. Apple got into streaming for the same reason Amazon did, to act as another component of their services. It's logical that Apple, as well as Amazon would promote their products first where they reap 100% of the rewards, as opposed to a percentage of something else. The fact that Apple does get a cut if you sub thru the app is gravy for them, and an agreement of their platform.

Apple made nothing from me though, because I subbed thru Disney 23, so the money goes straight to Disney. Anyone else who also pre ordered didn't give a dime to Apple either, because Disney wisely held on to releasing the app until today, insuring subs went to them straight.

What a weak launch. I sign up for originals and there is only one original (The Mandalorian) serious drama. And, only one episode of each show to begin with. They should at least follow Apple's lead with the 3 episode availability at launch. Disney-

I haven't found anything original to watch. I have seen all the classic Disney/Pixar/Star Wars/Marvel shows, and own the ones I want on Blu-ray.
There are more originals on it right now than you think, you just need to look. And nope, it's not a weak launch at all. I guess you're not a Disney fan...but for the rest of us who grew up with Disney, this is the gold mine we've been waiting for in years.

4K, Dolby Digital and Atmos is also a welcome feature and it's almost everywhere on Disney+

And regardless if there are three episodes or one episode available now, we still have to wait a week for the rest each so no real basis to fault Disney here.

Not surprising..... seeing that millions of people are hammering their servers right now. Happens to all streaming providers. Everything will get sorted... no worries.
It is happening again. They must be getting slammed. Same message.

I'm not surprised that they are having problems. Their parks and resort site can't handle that load at times. They are obviously not a tech company.

I looked. Only saw the one. But a free year with Verizon means free. Can’t say there’s much I’m interested in. Should I watch Star Wars for the 100th time? Lol.

Oh look there’s a show about a fork.

I don’t think Netflix has much to worry about.

Hulu has a ad free option for a higher fee. If you already subscribe to Hulu and register for the Disney+ bundle with the same email address you keep your Hulu account separate and receive a 5.99 credit each month.

This is great info. Did you see the monthly credit info when signing up for Disney+?

Where are the old school movies? Pete’s Dragon, Nomemobile, Apple Dumpling Gang, Darby O’Gill and the Little People. I figured some of these would at least be on there.
Edit: never mind. All these old movies are there. Sweet.

I tried to sign up and got errors; could not even find the app in App store... it simply wasn't there.

Did the free year trial through verizon, which gave me a direct download link for the app.

This does not bode well for the streaming load they will be experiencing for the mandalorian.

All signed up!

Was able to get a refund from Hulu for this month (Charged me on Nov. 6) and cancel. ESPN+ actually was set to renew today so I cancelled that yesterday.

Perfect start!

Did you pay via the D+ website or did you have an option to pay in the iOS app?

I'd like to pay in the app vs the website but have not had any luck finding that option.

Thanks

Talk to me about ESPN +. I’m game to try Disney plus, and our 0.99 a month Hulu is ending soon, but I’m not sure about paying full price for Hulu. I mostly watch the NFL. Will ESPN + do anything for me once I watch all of Payton’s Places?
