It doesn't in terms of visual quality. The picture quality is like Netflix. Which is fine I suppose but ATV+ quality on an OLED is amazing.
It's interesting that Disney only uses dolby vision on two of their discs, black panther and spider man far from home. They don't use it on anything else. Just HDR10. And their HDR and atmos mixes are less than great. Like it's more of an after thought. Which is sad because they own the biggest IP's.
But they have dolby vision on many of their Disney+ movies. I'm curious how well it's used. Just slapped on or do they dynamically adjust it per scene. I'll have to spend some time watching.

And the mandalorian isn't in atmos. WTF?

That's really disappointing, but pretty much what I was expecting. Really good move by Apple to focus on video/audio quality as I feel like it is a huge selling point, and a nice differentiation from other services. I appreciate the insight though. I'll have to check it out later on.

PSA: For all those who are cancelling their Hulu subscriptions or saying you can't have Hulu's no-ad or live-tv options, you actually can. If you have an existing Hulu account and sign up to the Disney bundle with the same email address, you'll receive a credit to the amount of $5.99 on the Disney bundle. Even if you don't have a Hulu account yet, it's actually better to sign up separately rather than through Disney because then you can pick & choose which Hulu options you want. See:

Can anyone confirm that when purchasing it outside of Apple it works with Apple TV's Up Next feature? I can't stand that HBO NOW doesn't support it.

Besides Apple TV, are there any other hardware options that can output Dolby digital (converting it from the Dolby digital Plus that most streaming is using now)? Any recommendations would be appreciated now that my old Roku is no longer supported.

App just came out, why so upset about it being #30. Check tomorrow what # it is. Mountain/molehill
Are search results based on some timeframe/popularity or on matching what I am typing? I would hope it would be the latter, and 29 other results that don't match what I typed listing ahead of an exact match to what I typed, doesn't seem right.

But next time Apple releases a big app, I'll do a similar search within hours of its release, and I'll let you know if it also is on or around #30 in the list, or if it's at the top of the list. ;)

An understandable number of launch day issues aside (lots of "can't connect" messages throughout the apps earlier today), this is already better than Apple TV+, and their user experience is much better than Netflix and Hulu. Biggest bonus: none of that auto-playing trailer ******** Netflix thrust on you.

Ah, not free. You paid for it with your cell plan. That's great!

No, it’s free. For a year.

I think it does have the auto play trailers, just not currently working. There is an option to turn them off in profiles.

Today was the first time I looked at the Disney+ content, as a parent this knocks it out of the park for us (those classics). I think the real looser here is Netflix.

What a weak launch. I sign up for originals and there is only one original (The Mandalorian) serious drama. And, only one episode of each show to begin with. They should at least follow Apple's lead with the 3 episode availability at launch. Disney-

I haven't found anything original to watch. I have seen all the classic Disney/Pixar/Star Wars/Marvel shows, and own the ones I want on Blu-ray.

If your surprised by this you haven't been paying attention.

Disney+, Hulu with limited adds and ESPN for 12.99.... Is it ONLY through the Disney website?
I cannot find this as an in app purchase on the iPhone app.
I see the 6.99/69.99 offers but NOT the 3 bundled for 12.99.
I may have missed this, but is it only available on the Website?
thanks

Just to elaborate on this...
Many people already subscribe to hulu through Apple's app store and don't have an associated email to provide on Disney's website for the bundle (at least I don't think we do - apple ID?).

Anyone have insight?

For one, it still works with Apple Music so you can add streaming someplace else for cheap. Bigger, the aTV2 can be jailbroken. It has a pretty active app community. You can turn it into a really power efficient media server. That way you can have your old aTV2 streaming movies to your new aTV4k devices.

Wasn't working properly with my new Wi-Fi setup and also I had updated it to the non-jailbreakable system (don't know if that is still true), oh well, RIP...

not even close lmao

Do you happen to know what the bitrate is for Disney+? Since you said it's not even close and laughed, I'm hopeful you know if it's up there or not with Apple TV+.

According to a recent article, Apple TV+ averaged 29 Mb/s and peaked at 44 Mb/s, while Netflix maxes out at 16 Mb/s. Bitrate is only one factor, but it correlates with quality, and in this case it can be said that Apple TV+ 4k does look better than Netflix. The article only used those two services as an example, so it's not easy to guess where Disney+ falls.
