Disney are banking on attracting families not computer geeks. In all seriousness “normal families” (ie those who don’t spend their lives on forums) will embrace this service. Great trusted entertainment for kids at a bargain price.

If I was Disney I’d maintain the price differential with Netflix and watch the latter sink.

Why will the latter sink though? I'm very confused by this attitude.

Here in the UK Netflix have no Star Wars content, they have some Marvel stuff but whenever Netflix releases lists of its most streamed content none of it never seems to feature and whenever I speak to people abut things they have watched on Netflix it is mostly Narcos/Mindhunter/Stranger Things etc.

I can't speak to what happens elsewhere but, here at least, I just don't think people subscribe to Netflix for the kind of content that Disney is offering.

One thing that Netflix has going for it is that they have proven that they can produce original content that is popular.

But you can't watch Jennifer Aniston earn $25,000/minute

Checkmate Disney

All of these streaming services are spending a FORTUNE on these individual shows. So please don't act like Apple is the only one. That's why all these streaming services are exciting, they aren't skimping and making movie quality productions on these streaming series.

Holy cow. What happened to Disney? I was thinking it would be twice that just for a single stream. This gonna be giving Netflix some issues.

They will also have the 20th Century Fox catalog.

Cool I guess. But I don’t want to see a catalog of old shows. Only interested in new shows or movies. Those classic Disney animated movies? Own them. Star Wars? Own them. Marvel? Same. What’s left? Lame Disney tv shows? There’s nothing worthwhile on this service for a few years at least. I’ll check it out in 2021 maybe. But I doubt it’ll be 6.99 then.

No it won’t. Netflix has tons of diverse content. Disney doesn’t yet. The company quaking in their boots is the other one launching in November with very little content.

Netflix has tons of content that it licenses. Key distinction.

I don't have any inside info, but don't be surprised if The Mandalorian shows up on Netflix or Amazon in the UK in November.

I’d be very surprised.

Again, the official UK Star Wars twitter account has tweeted that The Mandalorian is exclusive to Disney Plus and is coming early 2020. So unless something changes or they’re lying... ?!

Movies (not shows)... 20th Century Fox movie studio, not Fox TV station.

LOL! This won't even be a blip on the radar.

A blip on the radar?? Disney rules the theatrical box office and can bank on an enormous amount of nostalgia. The pricing and features of their service are extremely agressive. They are out to kill.

Netflix is in a disastruous financial situation because of all their loans. If they don’t keep growing ferociously, they’ll go bankrupt in no time. Trust me, they are very worried. People can only spend their money once.

"For the first time since 2011, Netflix reported a loss of over 126,000 subscribers just in U.S. in its most recent three-month stretch."
So, even without disney+ netflix is not what it was last year

But they gained 2.7 million subscribers worldwide, short of their forecast maybe but the world doesn't start and end with the US.

Will cancel Netflix for Disney+ this November.
Disney+ will have a nice library at launch with a focus on quality and less on quantity.
Unfortunately, they do not mention content from 20th Century Fox at all.

It’s like cable TV ‘packages’ all over again... great.

Can’t say I’m surprised. The large conglomerates were going to make their money some way. A la carte pricing was never going to take off given the cost of creating content and maintaining a streaming service.

Not to mention, since a lot of the major studios are pulling their content from Netflix, they're going to have less and less to offer. Netflix can't produce every show on their platform like Disney or NBCUniversal.

They have it all — the cash, the intellectual property and the actual production facilities.

Back to Apple, I don't understand why they are even joining this race unless they plan on building their own Warner/Disney/Universal/Sony/Paramount-style division.

This is very cool. It will certainly give Netflix headaches. Competition is good.
Yes. Competition is very good. But HOW will THIS give Netflix headaches?! Marvel may be for some, so does Pixar, or Disney but this alone is not enough to replace the content Netflix provides is far more spread than what Disney Corp ever will produce. It rerererereinterprets itself every time a new Marvel/Starwars/Disney whatever comes out. I only watch Deadpool on Netflix. No other soon to be ex-content they lent from Disney interests me.

Thats because you aren't in the US.

These threads have been amusing to be honest, at lot see everything through a US centric lens and think that what interests people there is the be all and end all.

Someone will be along in a moment to state that Netflix is doomed because they've lost the rights to Friends (in the US)..

It won’t. Does the Disney channel give anyone headaches (beside the person that has to watch it). This is simply Disney channel plus. Same crap but they’ll do a hand full of originals that won’t get started for a few years.

Not sure how it replaces Netflix anytime soon. Unless you’re some kind of Disney nut.

I don't understand this stupid idea that somehow people can't afford more than one streaming service at a time. Just because you can't, doesn't mean no one else can. Netflix and Disney are going after completely different audiences and there's no reason people can't have more than one streaming service. If you like TV and have the time you'll have more than one service. It doesn't have to be an either or thing. You can also subscribe to different ones when there's something you like and cancel during the down times. I don't know what part of this is hard for people to understand. Granted the market will be crowded and some of these services will fail. But I'm not one of these idiots who hope things fail. I hope they all succeed so we'll continue to have all this great content and choices. Isn't that what Chord Cutters have been screaming for? Millions of people spend $30 a week at Starbucks. But spending $10 on a month on a streaming service is draconian? I spend $14 (less than $4 a day) a week just getting breakfast at McDonalds. It adds up, we as humans need to be adults and decide what's really important to us, instead of constantly complaining about the cost of things

Im sold. Disney+ is going to be the most successful streaming service.

While a good deal, and many people may subscribe for a limited period at first just to check it out, it will ultimately be for families with kids which will limit it's subscription base.

Read carefully "a loss of over 126,000 subscribers just in U.S" so worldwide....it will be affected too with so many streaming providers

We gave up all linear TV 5 years ago, and went all streaming.

At the moment we subscribe to Netflix, HBO Nordic, Amazon Prime, Viaplay, and Sumo; which is maybe a bit too many.

I can see us kicking (at least) Viaplay to get Disney+, but not sure if we'll keep Apple TV+ after the free trial.

Sorry mate but it seems you live in a territory which won’t be seeing Disney+ at launch. It will take some time for the Disney to have all the rights back.

Anyway, in a couple of years all the major studios will have their own streaming services. It will be race to the bottom and that will hurt Netflix like hell. Netflix tries to create originals but in many cases they are modern equivalent of b-movies, filler content.
