Netflix are sitting on a mountain of debt and can’t play the long game. Disney can. Also I don’t think the UK will be much of an influence in the death of Netflix. It will all be driven from the US.

Personally I’ll be subscribing to neither but I suspect that with the Disney, Fox Nat Geo and ABC archives ther will be far better content on Disney than on Netflix.

Don’t be fooled by your opinion on Netflix, analysts said they were dead in their early days and it was a dead market they were entering.... yeah we all know how right they were with that! Netflix knows how to play the long game successfully despite its appearances.

How does paying $6.99 - $16, 5 or 6 times as you say in your own comment, equate to $150-200?

Most expensive Netflix plan is $16.

Hulu with no adds is $11.99.

Amazon Prime is $12.99.

HBO Now is $14.99.

Disney+ is $6.99.

So with all of those you would be at $63. And you don't receive those bills every month, they are auto charged. That's A LOT of great content for $63/month.
[doublepost=1566675682][/doublepost]

They have the ENTIRE Fox catalog.

Those saying this won't kill Netflix are crazy. All Disney, all Pixar, all Fox, all National Geographic. For $6.99 a month?! That's insane.

Edit: and Marvel and Star Wars!
Dude, you forgot to factor-in the cost of bandwidth, typically provided by cable to the home.
Unless 5G rolls fast and furious (and cheap), you are tethered to cable's bandwidth -- typically $100-month.
And, guess what, as cable loses its revenue from program delivery, the cost of bandwidth-only ("single-play" service) will just rise disproportionally -- but only for those streaming customers.

[Also, you forgot to add federal (and possibly onerous state taxes) for roght-of-way service.]

We enjoy Netflix because if the huge amount of content and we love discovering all sorts of indie / small studio films - there’s a huge quantity of docs, food, anime, horror - and some really amazing original TV like Russian Doll, and of course big hits like Stranger Things.

Disney has a couple of originals that I could take a pass on and Marvel and Pixar films that if we wanted to watch more than once, we probably bought them already . Just __zero__ interest in this for us (same for Apple’s service for that matter).

I don't see how Apple could offer TV+ at a higher price than Disney+ and expect to be successful with it. For that matter, ATV+ would be the same cost as Amazon Prime, without killer shows like Bosch and The Expanse, the extensive Prime catalog, plus of course the other benefits of Prime. A combined ATV+/Apple Music sub for $9.99 might be enough to entice people on the fence about either.

“Extensive prime catalog”

Hahahah what?

Will it be available as a channel?

Nothing announced yet. I would be surprised if Disney was willing to take a large cut of their biggest and most important product, as well as giving up the in-depth analytics they can collect in their native app. Could be wrong though.

Personally I prefer Channels because they “just work.”

I prefer the channels over apps as well. The two we have, HBO and CBS, work really well. If Hulu Live and Netflix went that route I’d be happy.

Waiting for the hulu live discounted bundle announcement

Disney's annual D23 Expo kicked off in Anaheim on Friday, and the company has revealed more details about its upcoming streaming service, Disney+.

According to CNET, Disney+ will cost $6.99 a month and give subscribers the ability stream up to four devices at the same time, with high-definition 4K content included at no extra cost.

That will make it highly competitive with Netflix, which increased its base price to $9 earlier this year. Netflix also charges subscribers $13 for high definition streaming on two simultaneous streams, and $16 for 4K and four simultaneous streams.

Of course, Netflix has built up a large library of content in its nine years operating as a streaming service, but Disney has a huge stock of established IP to draw from and is launching its platform with more than 500 feature films and over 7,500 shows, including the entire Pixar library and a raft of original content.

The company is debuting a Ms. Marvel series on the platform, as well as She Hulk and Moon Knight. A live-action Lady and the Tramp adaptation and an Obi-Wan Kenobi original series starring Ewan McGregor will also be exclusive to Disney+.

Other previously announced perks include numerous Star Wars series like The Mandalorian, several Marvel character shows, and exclusive streams for upcoming Disney movies including Frozen 2 and a live-action The Little Mermaid.

Disney's original episodes will be released weekly, in contrast to Netflix's tendency to release entire seasons in one go, and subscribers to the service will be able to set up to seven different user profiles (Netflix allows up to four).

Disney+ is set to launch on November 12 and will be available to watch on Apple TV (tvOS-supported models), iPad, and iPhone, with offline downloads supported on mobile.

This holiday season is shaping up to be all about the battle of the streaming platforms, with Apple TV+, Apple's new streaming television service, also expected to launch in November.

Apple TV+ will offer all of Apple's original TV shows and movies that are in development, and Apple is spending upwards of $6 billion for content. Little is known about Apple TV+, but it will be available on all devices where the TV app is available when it launches.

Apple has not yet announced pricing for the service, but it is ad free and shows will be available to watch on demand. Current rumors suggest it could be priced at $9.99 per month.

The BIG technical question related to the Disney+ service is whether they will offer content in P3 PQ !

I'm 100% confident Apple will, with their TV+ service.

Hulu+ (without ads cause F ads) Amazon (cause I buy everything them-PRIME FTW), Netflix, and HBO only when a good show is running. I also pay for Youtube Red as I sub and watch waaay more there than all of the above combined.

So....Disney may indeed be next up.

“Disney wins” seems to be the sentiment here. Yet the comments make it sound like we want to watch Disney content all of the time.

I don’t, and I truly doubt you do either.

I want to be excited a out this. However if I sign up after about a week I think I am going to simply be reminded I am no longer twelve years old and no longer have a man crush on Han Solo.

Itunes has a great catalogue of movies, but I think it's greatly underused due to the user interface.

Problem, it's hard to find movies unless you know the title, in which case you can search for them. Yes, you can browse recent movies and some old block busters but the catalogue is sooo much bigger. There is a huge number of movies that you don't know the name of or that are a few years old.

Apple could probably double their sales by providing better recommendations.

For instance, imagine a list of all movies for a genre, or by an actor, by IMDB score. Today I search for movies on IMDB and Google it, i.e. top "sci-fi movies all time", "best movies with Harrison Ford", "best submarine movies", and then I type in the title.

This works, but I think few people does that. If they don't see it, they don't think it exists.

I also think there are lots of people that have not installed Itunes that miss out because they don't think it exists.

They only watch Netflix (which has a horrible catalogue).

Disney priced the service low to get subscribers.

Who doesn't think that Disney's prices will eventually be similar to Netflix prices ?

Me. Because Disney's library (apart from the ones produced exclusively for Disney+) are things they already made a lot of money from and are mostly sitting in their vault, collecting dust. There's no incentive for them to rile up their subscriber base and get bad press by increasing prices.
