Does anyone know if Disney has said if their streaming will include Dolby Atmos support? That would be a deciding factor for me if I would switch to their streaming service and finally drop Netflix Blu-Ray service. Most of their Blu-ray Discs are the "dumbed-down" audio and rarely include Atmos.

Hopefully AppleTV+ will support Atmos...

Nothing said yet. Here in the UK, Disney’s existing streaming service Disney Life only includes Dolby Digital 2.0, even for films where a 5.1 DD or 7.1 DD+ track exists. I can’t see DD 2.0 cutting it on Disney+ though. Fingers crossed for Atmos on newer content.

And yes, Disney only seem to include Atmos on their 4K UHD BluRays; have they ever included an Atmos soundtrack on their vanilla BluRay releases? As opposed to Warner who seem to routinely include Atmos on their regular BluRay releases.

Absolutely can't wait. The Mandalorian would be worth it alone for me.

Netflix still has original content like Wu Assassins, Dark Crystal, Witcher, etc that really interest me.

Nothing I've seen for the Apple offering appeals to me.

Just to make it plain, I love Netflix.
When I 1st got it, only 2 or 3 years ago, I mistakenly thought it was just for watching movies.
At that time I very much poo poo'd the concept of watching anything THEY made.

Since that time, I have changed my mind greatly, and just a film, seems not much compared to a season of original content I get into.
Some more enjoyable than others of course. Some I can't stand to watch, but then, we can't all like the same thing.

With that out the way, one thing REALLY baffles me.

At the VERY TIME you are going to be losing content, and another player in the market who is going to vie for your customer base.
Why on earth, at that very moment, people are going to think, shall I stay with them, do they rise the prices?

The price is just going up in the UK right now.

So you will no longer have many great films people love, and to make them stay, you increase the price.
Sorry, but I didn't think that's how you did it?

Services like CotoMovies still has the edge as it’s service is free, as long your willing to put up with Ads, as a wider range and even films that have just come out on the big screen.

Netflix and others need to lower their prices, I have Netflix myself but thinking of switching to coto as seems to be popular everyone raves how great it is and it’s free

I’d be very surprised.

Again, the official UK Star Wars twitter account has tweeted that The Mandalorian is exclusive to Disney Plus and is coming early 2020. So unless something changes or they’re lying... ?!

Ah, fair enough. Roll back to the initial complaint then that this is a rough way to launch a new Star Wars property and pretty disappointing for UK fans. Although it not going to be the only disappointment the UK experiences in November.

U plan on paying Disney to keep reliving your childhood? How many times can u watch that stuff?

Yeah. Some people just can't Let It Go!

The stuff available on Disney+ is just beyond awful (to me). Those of you saying it's a NF killer realize they have nothing that will counter NF's more mature programming offerings, right?

But anyway, with 4k content still being priced at lunatic levels, $6.99 a month with 4k included will get me to at least try it out.

All I care about is new original content, which Netflix provides plenty. All old tv shows and movies can be had for free elswehere. Netflix via T-mobile and Amazon prime video as a throw in to the 2 day shipping is what I have now and is more content than I can consume. I suspect that is the case for many out there having these 2 streaming services.

Disney's annual D23 Expo kicked off in Anaheim on Friday, and the company has revealed more details about its upcoming streaming service, Disney+.

disney-plus.jpeg

According to CNET, Disney+ will cost $6.99 a month and give subscribers the ability stream up to four devices at the same time, with high-definition 4K content included at no extra cost.

That will make it highly competitive with Netflix, which increased its base price to $9 earlier this year. Netflix also charges subscribers $13 for high definition streaming on two simultaneous streams, and $16 for 4K and four simultaneous streams.

Of course, Netflix has built up a large library of content in its nine years operating as a streaming service, but Disney has a huge stock of established IP to draw from and is launching its platform with more than 500 feature films and over 7,500 shows, including the entire Pixar library and a raft of original content.

The company is debuting a Ms. Marvel series on the platform, as well as She Hulk and Moon Knight. A live-action Lady and the Tramp adaptation and an Obi-Wan Kenobi original series starring Ewan McGregor will also be exclusive to Disney+.

Other previously announced perks include numerous Star Wars series like The Mandalorian, several Marvel character shows, and exclusive streams for upcoming Disney movies including Frozen 2 and a live-action The Little Mermaid.

Disney's original episodes will be released weekly, in contrast to Netflix's tendency to release entire seasons in one go, and subscribers to the service will be able to set up to seven different user profiles (Netflix allows up to four).

Disney+ is set to launch on November 12 and will be available to watch on Apple TV (tvOS-supported models), iPad, and iPhone, with offline downloads supported on mobile.

This holiday season is shaping up to be all about the battle of the streaming platforms, with Apple TV+, Apple's new streaming television service, also expected to launch in November.

Apple TV+ will offer all of Apple's original TV shows and movies that are in development, and Apple is spending upwards of $6 billion for content. Little is known about Apple TV+, but it will be available on all devices where the TV app is available when it launches.

Apple has not yet announced pricing for the service, but it is ad free and shows will be available to watch on demand. Current rumors suggest it could be priced at $9.99 per month.

If so, Disney will blow the entire industry of streaming IMHO. The best thing would be a join between Disney and Apple (Pixar and Apple are more the friend so it could be) for a 9.99$ monthly.
I will get that ASAP.
I’ve already pause my Netflix subscription, will see what’s next.

Reading all these comments has me amazed at how few people understand what’s under Disney’s umbrella! Honestly shocked at the ignorance.

Well here's the list
https://deadline.com/2019/08/disney...-pixar-simpsons-streaming-service-1202594496/

If you aren't a Marvel/Star Wars/Pixar fanboy, this is a rather unappealing lineup. Other than the Simpsons and maybe the Jeff Goldblum show, ain't a thing here I would watch.

Meanwhile NF has, off the top of my head: Mindhunter, Narcos, Stranger Things, Arrested Development, Making a Murderer, Black Mirror, Dark, Glow, The OA, Maniac, House of Cards, Our Planet, Castlevania, Bojack, The Haunting of Hill House, Russian Doll, Lady Dynamite, Master of None, The Crown, Sacred Games, and so on. On the film side they have The Irishman, the Dolemite film, The King, and Marriage Story all coming out before the end of the year.

Yeah, NF has produced a lot of cheap schlock to fill up their catalog, but they've still put together the best catalog of original content of any streaming service, and until other providers like Disney or Apple can prove to counterpunch effectively, the dent they put in NF will be minuscule, particularly as they drastically increase the monies allocated toward creating said original content. **** like Roma and The Irishman exist bc NF emptied out their pockets. For many, this type of stuff is a greater reason to fork over one's money than the pockets-emptying that leads to a Star Wars show or a Jennifer Aniston drama about a morning news broadcast. All to say, these things tickle different fancies; Neither Disney nor Apple is currently offering up a streaming service that replaces what NF is offering. The closest direct competitor to NF is currently Prime Video, and they have inexplicably shown little interest in properly promoting that aspect of Prime.

Due to existing licensing agreements most of the content won't return to Disney for streaming for another year or two. This is true even in the US. For instance, Netflix has some Star Wars and Marvel movies while Starz has a quite a few Pixar movies.

Can I just use the VPN Im currently using to watch HBO, ESPN, etc., from here in Greece?

“Disney wins” seems to be the sentiment here. Yet the comments make it sound like we want to watch Disney content all of the time.

I don’t, and I truly doubt you do either.
I think that’s more from parents with school-age children. For them it’s an auto-buy. They’re obviously trying to broaden their appeal, but for the average household without kids, they’re probably not there yet imo.

There is such a thing as too much competition, and this is what it looks like. We've moved past competition to total fragmentation.

Most of these services have no more than a handful of shows would appeal to me. I don't want 5 subscriptions to watch 6 shows.

Disney+ has a ton of good content for a great price, but much of its original content won’t be around for a while. By then, the price is likely more, but I still expect the service to do well due to the diehard fans who will watch the same Marvel/Star Wars stories retold over and over in a new package. I think there is a place for Apple TV+, but Apple will need to keep investing in quality content to fill it out. They’ll need a hit early on or it will likely die off. Until we see more trailers, no one can say how it will play out though.

Actually it's worse. All these people subscribing to a handful of "Plus" and "Prime" services, they eventually end up paying close to those old $150-200 cable bundle bills. Except now they deal with having to receive and pay 5 or 6 bills every month.

How does paying $6.99 - $16, 5 or 6 times as you say in your own comment, equate to $150-200?

Most expensive Netflix plan is $16.

Hulu with no adds is $11.99.

Amazon Prime is $12.99.

HBO Now is $14.99.

Disney+ is $6.99.

So with all of those you would be at $63. And you don't receive those bills every month, they are auto charged. That's A LOT of great content for $63/month.

They have the ENTIRE Fox catalog.

Those saying this won't kill Netflix are crazy. All Disney, all Pixar, all Fox, all National Geographic. For $6.99 a month?! That's insane.

Edit: and Marvel and Star Wars!

Next year or year after it be

Could be whole lot worse. Apple could be trying to make as many shows as possibly, ala Netflix, and then doubling the price of the service to fit their users with the bill. A loony approach.

Yeah I have to say Amazons approach is much more revered, only having a few exclusive shows which are mostly good, but Netflix as you say has done tons plus a fair few films. Bright must have cost a lot to make! And a sequel is coming too.
But Netflix is the dominant player and a lot of people do watch their shows, I watch a few like Altered Carbon but I do enjoy the films.

The only worry with Disney is it’s programmes production values must be fairly high, like Star Wars stuffed full of effects, that low price won’t stay low for too long once it’s for a foothold in the market.

But I have to say one of the best things I’ve recently watched was on Sky here in the UK, it was a collaborative production between Sky and HBO and was of course Chernobyl. That was a stunning mini series, here in the UK you could watch it in Sky or it’s cheaper streaming service Now TV.

These days the amount of choice you have of what to watch and how to watch it is huge and certainly takes full advantage of all tech available.

Why will the latter sink though? I'm very confused by this attitude.

Here in the UK Netflix have no Star Wars content, they have some Marvel stuff but whenever Netflix releases lists of its most streamed content none of it never seems to feature and whenever I speak to people abut things they have watched on Netflix it is mostly Narcos/Mindhunter/Stranger Things etc.

I can't speak to what happens elsewhere but, here at least, I just don't think people subscribe to Netflix for the kind of content that Disney is offering.

One thing that Netflix has going for it is that they have proven that they can produce original content that is popular.

Netflix are sitting on a mountain of debt and can’t play the long game. Disney can. Also I don’t think the UK will be much of an influence in the death of Netflix. It will all be driven from the US.

Personally I’ll be subscribing to neither but I suspect that with the Disney, Fox Nat Geo and ABC archives ther will be far better content on Disney than on Netflix.

I agree with your list of NF content. That has zero to do with D+. For one to be good doesn’t rely on the other being bad.
