And just when I'm content keeping my 7 Plus, more good news on the XS Plus comes out :D I keep telling myself I'll wait until next year... let's hope the temptation doesn't win out. Actually, other than deeper blacks and slightly sharper ppi, is the XS Max display remarkably better than the LCD inside the 7 Plus?

I'm in the same boat. I'm also still content with my 7 Plus, but I keep getting tempted by the XS Max

I see DisplayMate is back in favor with the MR family... until the next Samsung phone is released and has a display that beats this one... lather, rinse, repeat. ;)

non-fake news includes info from reliable sources, of which you have provided none. If you are in fact correct, I wonder if there is a quality problem with the LG displays, Samsung has been making them for awhile and they rate well, Apple has used them to great results, but LG is new in the OLED arena. If it is in the Samsung displays, then Samsung would just be evil.......something to think about.

There aren't any LG displays in current XS devices. You may have seen the story here that Apple are talking to LG about possibly supplying OLED displays in the future.

Until another smartphone is released in a few months...

That picture makes you look dumber than a rock, but anyway, Samsung was the only manufacturer of OLED screens which have a lot of potential, but they dropped the ball and had lousy color calibration, contrast, etc, but still better than most LCD. Apple used their screens on the X and upped the game dramatically. Not to be outdone, Samsung upped the game a bit later, now it seems the XS apps the game a bit. Likely, next year's Samsung will tweak yet again. However, if you can't afford to put an OLED in your device, you are not in the game.

Fake news it has a piss yellow tint hue and brightness keeps diming using it and auto brightless and true tone night shift is OFF Loads are having this issue

That problem with the auto diming is because of the phone overheating. Have had the problem since the iPhone 6 and can’t get rid of it.

More marketing from Apple! Another cherry-picked unit for the review! Yet I have compared my X to at least 4-5 XS Max units at 2 different stores and my X was still a tad brighter. The same settings and I let the display units cool off to make sure their brightness was not capped. So these reviews should be taken with a huge pile of salt LOL
Also, there is so much variance between these screens just like every year with every iPhone, so it's pure lottery.

I can't speak for others but I don't change my opinion on DisplayMate from release to release. They produce hard figures, expertly and scientifically.

I will say this though. OLED color shift when tilting is about the only nit (pun unintended) I could pick with my XS. I do wish Apple were a bit further along with Micro LED or some other technology. It is nit picking though - it's a beautiful display.

Choose your line up
- but it is Apple so it must be a paid review
- but DisplayMate is irrelevant, if they say that IPhone’s displays is better than Note 9’s
- once DisplayMate says, there is some better display than iPhone X’s, then everybody will be happy that DisplayMate is not “biased”

In so many millions of units, there will be faulty units, whatever company, whatever price tag, so if your screen has got a problem, have it fixed. It’s free to exchange.

I've noticed that my XS looks a little better outside compared to my X, but when using it inside directly next to my iPhone X at the same brightness level (I used volume slider clicks to get it to the middle and then tediously set both devices to be level with that volume slider) the iPhone XS is slightly darker. When I bring it up a little to match, the iPhone XS is a touch lower in contrast to my design school trained eye, as well as a slightly more yellow tint. I know in the past that new iPhone models can have a slightly yellow tint from the glue drying or something, so I'm hoping that will go away. It's hardly apparent when not side by side. I'm just wondering if I got one of the LG displays or something? I'm by no means saying it's a bad display at all whatsoever. It's really great. I was just hoping it would look at least as good as my iPhone X, and right now I'd say it's about 5% worse by my arbitrary scale. Not enough to get bent out of shape about, but worth noting.

I switched to the iPhone XS Max from the S8+. The colors look so bland and awful. It’s really noticeable in the game, Clash Royale.

pages and pages of macrumors members would disagree with displaymate's findings.

isnt it odd how testers never seem to get a junk display? Sure there are millions and millions of good units, but seems their chances of getting a bad one wouldn't exactly be that low either. you can walk into any store at any time and find poor display units anywhere.
I don't think you understand how probability works.

I don't think you understand how probability works.

Considering I'm an engineer, I probably do and you don't need to be so smug.

You can say there are millions and millions of good units, but there are also millions and millions of bad units. Probability be damned, reviewers never, and I mean never, not once, in ten years of watching reviews have complained about a single screen. The screens are either hand-picked, or the reviewers are paid off to not say anything negative. Walk into any store and you can find junk display units, so there are probably a lot more bad ones out there than people realize, because the average consumer buying a phone doesn't even think about it or notice it or look for it - doesn't mean it's not there. It's likely just underreported.

That's because Samsung devices are oversaturated by default to get the "wooow colors are popping!!" effect and Apple aims for accuracy.
Interesting. I can appreciate the color accuracy in camera and photos, but I wish they would saturate more in games.

That is if you are a machine. If you are a (sensitive) human probably you will end with headaches or migrains after one day of use.

Thanks, I must have misread this article and lots like it. "
LG will help supply OLED panels for Apple’s iPhone XS models"
https://bgr.com/2018/09/14/iphone-xs-oled-displays-samsung-lg-new-supplier/

LG is _not_ a current supplier right now for the iPhone XS Max. They just recently passed based Apples quality standard tests based off a recent rumor. They are slated to be a future supplier for iPhone OLED panels. Samsung is the only supplier right now for the iPhone XS.

I'm not being smug just because you're making an absurd claim that you cannot substantiate with data because the facts don't justify your claims. Making up a conspiracy theory totally makes you credible.

Millions and millions of bad units though? What qualifies as a bad unit?

Seems more likely, if there are BAD displays, it would be a very small number. How many reviewers do you read? Seems like you're arguing you've never won the lottery even though you buy a ticket every week, & how is that possible?
