I have checked out the 5 at a local store, the screen looks great for sure. However, I'll stick to my galaxy S3 because of its OS and screen size. I do really like the new iPhone, I kinda feel they could have done better.

Whats with all the phone bashing lately? Do you people really like, see someone carrying an S3 and think " his phone sucks, he's probably poor and afraid of my opinion "?

Buy the phone that works for you, no need to trashs other phones.

Wait till Jony comes out with 4.5" iphone. Y'all will mysteriously grown a longer thumb to accomodate.:D

And, since when Displaymate ever gives Apple a bad review???

Wait till some Android OEM comes out with 6.5" handset. Y'all (on the other side) swear by god that it is still usable :p

And, you're right. The reason "Apple" (i.e. Apple products) get good reviews isn't in the least bit because they're actually good products, but because there is a twisted global conspiracy whereby all tech reviewers are Apple fanboys and/or get payed by Apple to say good things about them

C'mon dude, Apple's displays have consistently been as good as or better than the competition, hence the good reviews

As much as I hate the fandroids, the 4S was a little dated. The iPhone 5 is IMO the best phone on the market. I'm sure Samsung will leapfrog the iPhone eventually and vice versa. I'm pretty satisfied with the 5 though. The only things I would want is some kind of widget system, or quicker access to common things like brightness etc.

Please, retina from now on

I really hope Apple uses a similar display with the iPad Mini. After releasing all of these really nice retina displays, it would suck big time if Tim Cook held up a iPad Mini with a larger 3GS display.

i just got the Samsung fridge freon 6 with biscuit gravy OS that you can calibrate with a tap cornstarch on the screen and it will transfer the whole magic to any other phone with the latest biscuit gravy OS.

It's also the WIDEST phone they made so far too. You can slap you side burns with each end of it to change songs. Take that Apple!

We have work arounds to all of your elegant ideas!

I'm loving the new iPhone5 for the most part, compared to the 4S it's a solid upgrade in most aspects. The display is for sure better as far as richness of color, BUT, it seems to have a major flaw when I use it in the car with polarized sunglasses!! It seems that the screen polarizers are set 90 degrees off for my glasses. This gives me a dim display with no color unless I tilt my head to one side or the other. I don't recall this with my iPhone4S or HTC's before that. In landscape the phone looks good.

This simply sucks as I use my iPhone as my primary in-car Nav running Copilot Live and it's live realtime traffic based re-routing capability.

I'd have thought Apple would have thought of outdoor use with polarized glasses...

If you can still find some. Get yourself a piece of overhead projector transparency film and cut it to fit the screen.

No, it won't affect the retina display but it will reorient the polarization of the screen so you can see the i5 with your glasses on.

I've had to do this for a few gps devices.

If it didn't suck in portrait mode when viewed with polarized sunglasses, then it would have to suck in landscape mode. Polarized sunglasses are primarily used for driving. Most standalone GPS units are used in landscape mode. So the design is likely intended to support the phone's use as a GPS the way that the majority of people use a GPS.

I wonder if Candurin's idea would work for you.

Awful and ignorant comparison.

The best comparisons for the iP5 are the Optimus LTE and the HTC One X because they are all IPS and around/ over 320 PPI, with full RGB matrix.

Both the One X and the LTE are superior. DisplayMate sounds like noobs who think that only Apple and Samsung exist.

Pretty awful response to this thread. The so called top android device out right now is the SG3. They are comparing the two, not some 1 year old crappy android phone.

I think the iPhone 5 looks great and it is getting the reviews to back it up to bad it has to have that dated iOS.

That is the one thing that bums me out about it. iOS is boring and just adding features that have been on Android for years. Whoa you mean you finally have turn by turn navigation and panorama pictures. I had both of those on my Samsung Galaxy (yes the very first model.) The only thing new is now I don't have to open that actual Starbucks app to order a coffee, instead open apples app.

I don't feel that I am a fanboy for either side I just like seeing companies that are being innovative with their products. Like maybe this one...

I love apple products but I think apple is just going all in on a specs war with the iPhone and not caring about the actual usability. Just my thoughts.

BUT, b-b-but... the Galaxy S3 is bigger, and quad-something, and 3D 4G LTE Epic Touch Maxx Plus, and more megapixels, and has a removable battery, and has a non updatable OS [oops, scratch that], and has s-cloud/s-voice/s-etc.., and has.. a-and is... BIGGER

Did I miss anything?

You forgot Adobe Flash and 2GB of RAM.

What's so bad about comparing an Apple phone to the most popular competitor phone? MacRumors is just reporting one of their tests. If you go to their site, you can find other comparisons. Just because they haven't compared the iPhone to the model phone you have doesn't mean that they're "noobs".

i used to have an iphone 4 and my sister used to have the iPhone 4s the screen in the 4 was great and on the iphone 4s was crazy Good but WOW on the iphone 5 i got people in the subway all the time in boston been looking at me because the screen is beautiful and clear I love it

How can this be? Everyone knows the Galaxy SIII is the best smartphone on the planet. (in the solar system, universe, et al) This has to be a mistake!
Where did you see that everybody thinks the Galaxy SIII is the best smartphone on the planet? I'm sure there are some people that feel that way, but I haven't seen any independent study that says that.

First, you may want to look up the definition of sarcasm. Then...

Pick a thread! Any thread in the past that references the iPhone 5, and you'll find multiple posts by Fandroids claiming the superiority of the Galaxy S III. ::shrug::

Um? I'm not some cell phone nerd that's tested every Android instance of whatever, but; the iPhone display is exquisite. Reds drip bright as blood. Shall I go on?

I can't believe the gamut of this display. Effing phenomenal; the sudden color saturation of covers for albums I could scarcely regard suddenly *beckon*. That's an endorsement if ever. I. Had one.

Abuse of punctuation? You're welcome.

4 GB won't help a bloated piece of dated software that's clinging to life.

On with the new.

Flash= Shuttle Endeavor

Actually, 2GB seems like it's enough for that OS to run. It's just stupid that it even needs that much, and that just increases costs and/or adds bulk. Also, Adobe Flash is discontinued on ALL mobile devices.

iOS is growing kind of stale, but its nothing a jailbreak can't fix. I feel like widgets are over rated. I can't see what I would use them for. To find out scores/weather/stocks etc I don't even have to unlock my phone. Just ask Siri.

I guess big plastic 720p phablets are innovative.

Regardless of each phone's stats I use something entirely more objective. MY EYES!!! I am NOT a fanboy and based on how many posts I have I don't participate too often in the debates. However, I am friends with a couple who recently updated their phones to the S3. I had the opportunity to play around with the phones for quite a bit of time.

My eyes clearly tell me that the retina display is much sharper and clearer. I actually was contemplating buying an S3 as I have no allegiance to a particular brand. If AT&T was giving away the S3 I'd still pay for the iPhone5 (which is what I did). The display is one of the most important aspects of the user experience (at least for me).

Lastly, trying to hold the unit and type is nearly impossible for me and I have larger than average hands.

The iphone5 is truly an amazing smartphone. PCMAG says it beats the S3. Numerous other tests conclude the same results. The nail in the coffin was that drop test conducted by an Android site. I'm sure you all saw that!

Thanks for reading my comments.

Hate to break it to you, for some people, the Galaxy S3 III is a better phone. Apple doesn't appeal to everyone, and they don't try to. Just because you prefer to the iPhone doesn't mean everyone has to.

Uh, stop it. Just stop.

The iPhone—Well, excuse me, Apple—invented what's “out there.” If it weren't for Cupertino, Google would still be chasing RIM, and we all know RIM's on their last legs, God bless 'em.

Touch it, bring it, pay it... This argument wouldn't exist if it weren't for iPhone.

If you have a multitouch mobile device (let alone one with 3rd party multitouch apps,) it's an iPhone, or an iPhone knockoff.

Thanks? You're welcome. Goodnight.

So they compare it to one phone? The Lumia 900 kills thr iphone 5 screen and the 920 is even better than that and is right around the corner. Source: http://blog.gsmarena.com/apple-iphone-5-display-compared-to-nokia-lumia-920-has-its-most-advanced-title-taken-away/

By your response I can tell you haven't really used an Android. The widgets are amazing. I like to listen to music all the time so instead of having to launch and app I just press play on my widget. Also I don't have to go to a messages app to see/reply to text messages. I just look at the widget. Plus when Siri is giving bad information who would trust her....

Plus if you watched the video I posted instead of just sounding super biased you would see some pretty good INNOVATION.
