It's great to see a 13" version of the Retina MacBook Pro... :)

But, I sincerely hope that Apple will also launch a new refresh of its iMac line. I wanted to buy the 2011 version and I nearly did. But, once I heard rumors about a new iMac refresh before end of 2012, I decided to hold my wallet back.

So, Apple, please... don't forget your desktop lines and launch that 2012 iMac of yours. :D After all, you've skipped the iMac in your 2012 WWDC, which is uncommon of you to do so. :(

I'm sure it'll be nice, but no way would i trade in my entry 2012 13". More than likely these will have entry point of where 15" is, $1799. No thanks, but i'll save $600 and put it towards an ssd, ram and my pocket. I have a hard time seeing how this will have better battery life and not cook eggs instantly (dedicated gpu).

Apple's going to achieve portfolio like this:

-Macbook Air 11 and 13 for lightweight and fast work, maybe upgrade to 1600x900 next year
-Pro line 13 and 15 only with Retina for demanding users

There will be no core Macbook Pro. Pity, Apple wants to block upgradability :(

Yeah the 13" are such nice machines, easily upgradable and if your warranty expires you can go with that optibay thing.

But if they decide to redesign it and not use traditional HDD, the temperatures shouldn't be that high, also it will allow for more cooling because the ODD will probably be gone and Apple might use similar design to the 15". I think it is possible to create it without heating up the machine that much.

On the other hand, there'll have to be way bigger battery.

Current non rMBP high end: £1799
Low end Retina: £1799

13" Retina Price to be the same as high end 13" non-retina which is £1249? bet you they [13" low end Retina] starts with 128GB flash.

In 6 months time when my 2007 white macbook's battery eventually becomes next to useless - I am going to have a ridiculously tough decision on what to replace it with!

I have no need for a retina 13" display but was in the apple store yesterday and that 15 rMBP screen looked stunning!

iMac refresh is not important if you just look at the hardware

Ivy Bridge is just slightly faster than Sandy Bridge in CPU performance (100MHz increase). It does save some power, which is not critical for a desktop. The integrated graphics is much faster, but all iMac's have dedicated graphic cards.

Either they are going to update it quietly, change the cpu because the old ones are not supplied and change the graphic cards to Radeon 7000 series or Geforce 600 Series. Just minor changes
I think the biggest change people are waiting for with new iMacs is USB 3. Because powerful enough, they already were for most people.

I tested the 15 inch retina for a week. The integrated graphics would give u headache while scrolling as it is so slow and sluggish, everything drags especially on Facebook.

That's nonsense. I have a 15" MacBook Retina Pro, and I've had zero issues with scrolling. ANY GPU made in the last ten years can scroll 2D images like lightning, even at high resolutions. Modern GPUs come into play when you're talking about complex shaders and having more processing units for running lots of shader computations in parallel. None of that applies to desktop scrolling.

It WAS bad in Lion on my rMBP until I upgraded to ML. Now it's much better.

Really hoping for a Retina 13" Air soon :(

If it's like the 15", my guess is that it will be in between the size of the 13" Air and 13" Pro, perhaps slightly heavier and non-tapered. That would still be very portable, given the screen. The Air's tapered design might not allow for good battery life.

According to Wiki the Haswell would have 3 types of integrated GPU, GT1, GT2 and GT3. However I don't think we could get GT3 on the mobile CPU, esp. the ULP ones.:p

On the contrary, it seems that GT3 is mainly for mobile processors, including the ULP ones

I'm putting off buying a 15 inch MacBook Pro with retina display until Microsoft updates Office with retina support.

I know, I know…iWork...

But the fact of the matter is Office is still much superior to iWork in my job requires I work with Word documents all day.

I'm using Numbers 09 for my job. I tried excel which is far superior but the lack of the retina support bothers my eyes. Numbers 09 really needs an update in my opinion too. There are some features from 08 that were taken out in 09 like having labels vertically displayed on the X-Axis instead of laying horizontally across. Why take that out? lol

I hope the rMBP13 will have some sort of graphics.

I mean, if Acer can fit a 640m into the Timeline Ultra M5, why can't apple put something similar into their 13"?

I just want to be able to play the odd game while on the go and still have a light laptop.

I'm looking to replace my laptop and desktop at the same time, so hopefully the iMacs are out soon too.

or they'r going to wait for a new design with retina display. What about
a 24 inch 3840*2400, and a 30in 5120*3200? That would be super exciting!

I would love a 24" display, the 27" is just way to big for me and my workspace but 21 feels a little lacking, those older 24" cinema displays are perfect, just can't justify spending $500 for a used display without TB. Also keep in mind that desktops sit farther back so they need less to be retina, if the smaller iMac had the same resolution as the 13.3" and the 27" had the same resolution as the 15" rmbp would be perfect.

IF they upped the effective resolution from a (pathetic) 1280x800, then I'd be all in.

1280x800 is a worthless resolution for a 13" screen. Yes, I have an 11" Air, but it still has a bit wider display, and it's also, you know, an 11" screen?

Does somebody need to get the hardware people from the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro lines together to show them that, yes, a higher resolution screen IS possible in a 13" form factor?? Geez...

Most certainly plane loads of these.

Not looking to buy 1 for myself, but they're deff gonna sell boatloads of these.

No doubt! Such a 13" machine may get me to move off the 15" MBP line. It all revolves around performance and capability but if the 13" retina MBP follows the design of the retina MBP it could be compelling.

Given the recent GeekBench scores allegedly for a 13" rMBP mentionning a dual-core CPU, there won't be a quad-core.

I don't think Apple has ever offered both dual- and quad-core options for a particular MBP model in the past, and as much as I would love to see it happen, I doubt they're going to do so now as it would lessen the appeal for the 15".

That would really suck. Quad core is a minimal configuration these days.

Step by Step, Apple marches on, moving everyone up market into the high priced zone that assures Apple's record breaking profits. All the while, the faithful eat it up like honey.

Their "retina" strategy is working flawlessly.

No choices, just "retina". Take it or leave it, a popular refrain from the peanut gallery.

I read a valid argument in another thread, in favor of the possibility of a quad-core option. The GeekBench scores are for a 3520M. That's currently the highest clocked dual-core i7. If this is the lowest-end, the next step up is a quad-core 3610QM for the higher end ;).

No choices except for the classic MacBook Pros and the Airs.

If this article pans out it look like that in 2013 the MacBook Family will comprise of 4 machines:

11"Retina MacBook Air
13" Retina MacBook Air
13" Retina Macbook Pro
15" Retina MacBook Pro

With all 4 only haviing SSD only and all with no optical drive and Ethernet.

Personally, I'm ok with that since I own the Retina 15" Macbook Pro. But I've read a lot of people prefer the legacy stuff still and find having the choice of Classic and Retina a good thing.

What's gonna happen when that choice is eliminated next year?

I think you missed this!
"The supply chain indications are that it's for a MacBook Pro 13.3 -- not a MacBook Air," said Shim.

If it wasn't good people wouldn't part with their hard earned money and buy it.

Or, are you saying all people who do buy are stupid? That's what you're eluding to and you're insulting people who buy the product. Clarify that. Please explain to me why I'm stupid, maybe it's wrong to be LOVING me rMBP display??

Maybe, just maybe, some people really enjoy the stunning display and the notebook's accompanying spec's and see more value in that over being able to upgrade ram and hard drives?

There's a plethora of notebooks on the market with choices and no retina so consumer options are vast.

What's your point? What's the big deal?

See it, like it, buy it, or don't. No problem.

I believe that not offering the NON-Retina line in 2013 will be a negative turning point for Apple and would hope Apple would not go in that direction.

Apples price points are WAY too high to turn their products into "Throw Aways". I would not be interested in buying a $2k or $3k (usefully configured) laptop that has a 1YR Warranty, and non-servicable other then through EXTREMELY overpriced Apple prices. Thats what an immature 20-25 year old does with his credit card, not what people do who know how to manage money.

There is a difference between a $500-$830 iPad in that situation, but $3K or more? We are not talking iPhone or iPad, this is serious CASH!!!

I would expect Apple would offer both the non-retina and retina options for awhile.
