At first I felt cheated, then I sat down and looked at the new features of the S1 and S2..

S1: Same everything, but slightly faster CPU. I don't feel my watch is that slow on WatchOS 3.0, so this isn't a real-world advantage to me.
S2: Slightly faster CPU, but I don't feel my watch is that slow on WatchOS 3.0, so this isn't a real-world advantage to me. GPS isn't of value to me. I don't use maps on my Watch, and always have my phone on me anyways. As far as I'm concerned, my Apple Watch Gen 1 is waterproof. I've taken it swimming in lakes, rivers, oceans, pools and showered with it - no issues to report, and it's been at the genius bar with no issues. So "waterproof" was already a feature of the watch.

Plus no redesign.

Doesn't bother me to wait for next year's watch.

Okay, it's this list

1) make it thinner
2) always on display
3) battery life last a minimum of 7 days

This is impossible with current battery technology. If you want something that lasts that long you have to opt for something with less features and a less impressive display.

I'm not talking about them launching an Apple Watch 2, I am referring to the fact that they are re-releasing the Apple Watch 1 with a faster processor. This is pretty frustrating and aggravating.

The same thing has been happening to anyone who has bought any computer or high-tech gadget in the last 20 years or so. There will always be a newer, faster, and/or shinier model just around the corner. Whether they call it "Apple Watch Series 1" or whatever is just marketing. It has a faster processor, therefore it is a newer model. Just as one model is released, the rumors and speculation about the next model begin.

Personally I think it would have been strange for Apple to release the Series 2 (which additional features like GPS) and not offer the same basic model as before... but with the newer processor. Maybe they should have called it the Apple Watch Series 1s to keep with their number+S naming convention that we have come to recognize as "this is just like the previous model but with a faster processor."

Point three is IMO completely unrealistic, particularly with also making it thinner. I'd get in board with all of those things being awesome though.

The way I see it is we got overhauled watches. The "new" series one is also thicker so it's no strictly the same as the first one.

In other words the first gen was replaced by two devices (kind of like 5s going to 6 and 6 plus). They just decided to call these watches series one and two for whatever reason.

I feel cheated only for gps.... it should have been added in watch 1ed.... they knew it, but they were out of imagination... as usual nowadays, so thinking about the killer feature of 2nd edition they thought... let's make it without... people will buy it anyway and then rebuy it next year! completely disappointed by this behavior that is keeping apple lineup 2 years behind competitors... this is why I am not buying any other apple product since iP6.....

Ah, ok -- in other words, a combination that's impossible until totally new battery technology becomes ready for mass production.

Not sure if i understand, it seems you do not have the watch so why would you feel cheated?

I know, I am cheated every year when new iPhone are around corner for past 9 year. Apple keep come up with new iPhone and I keep buying it. What a sucker I am.

you have had the watch for 2 years. you were not cheated.
You're being generous.

Even if they had the watch for one day, nobody can claim to have been 'cheated'. They got exactly they paid for.

I've had mine for a year, so no. I was expecting a longer upgrade cycle than this, though.
You don't actually have to upgrade, you know?

Why should I feel cheated? I tested the watch before buying it, so I knew what to expected. And also I knew from the very beginning, that there will be something better some day.

Not at all. I've had this for over a year, and with watchOS 3 I should easily get another year. The only feature that sounds appealing from the series 2 is the brighter screen, I don't need GPS or swimming tracking (at least yet, I might take up swimming, but knowing me probably won't).

I think AW1 owners might see it like the iPad 3 brouhaha.

A device that was severely underpowered and was swiftly replaced by a new version, instead of maintaining it at a lower price point. (I'm talking about the iPad 3, not the Apple Watch)

But Apple are in a kind of tricky spot - if they marketed these as two NEW watches - one which is a faster product and one that's faster and with a host of new features - they may not incur the indignation of current users, But new users might (like me) question if they really need the improved robustness and health related features and are simply happy with a cheaper version that's supposedly just as fast.

Their current solution to sell this as a 1st generation update keeps new consumers in the mindset that this is an 18 month old product and hence there is greater value in the brand-new series 2

Have you ever bought a car or a pack of gum or a TV or a microwave or a box of cereal or a roll of toilet paper or etc.? It must be "pretty frustrating" living with the constant 'aggravation' of "feeling cheated" by manufactures continuously and perpetually changing/updating/reformulation/replacing products after you bought them. I dislike foolish threads but can't help myself in posting to them. Hope I'm not become as obtuse as the OP.:D

Why because Apple updated the processor? They do that all the time, why should I feel cheated.

I bought a watch based on current specifications, so they improved the watches a year and a half later. Why should I suddenly be upset.

I suppose that's the risk of buying a gen 1 product.

They are not re-releasing the Stainless models with faster processor though, so I don't feel cheated at all.

No, I paid for a watch and got the watch knowing the features. I also have had mine since release date (AWS1).

Funny you should mention the iPad 3. My employer bought one for me when it was released, and I used that thing for four years! They finally upgraded me to a 9.7 inch iPad Pro this year. :D

I have had the original Apple Watch for 14 months now. The difference with the original AW is that every few months it actually gets faster! Each update has increased performance to some degree, and Watch OS3 will provide the biggest performance gain yet. The downside of being an early adopter has been the impression that Apple released the watch well before the operating system was as refined as it finally is with OS3... Like we were paying Apple to field test a beta product. However the benefits for many of us far outweighed the frustrations, and I am really glad I have had the watch these past 14 months.

It will be interesting to see if the new Series 1 watch has any noticeable performance advantage over the original Series 0. I'm sure there will be all kinds of tests. I predict that the gain will be noticeable only in the most demanding apps... At least at first. Within a year we might see an OS update or more apps that make the Series 0 hardware show its age.

Technology always moves forward... sometimes slowly and sometimes quickly. If I had a chance to go back in time I would still buy the original Apple Watch when I did.

The series 2 almost feels like a mid-cycle MacBook update. A faster processor, a couple of new other things, but not that big of a deal to me. I can wait to upgrade.

p.s. I'm not a runner (gps,) I already swim with my Watch, and I already don't keep my Watch on the highest brightness setting, so much of the new features are lost on me.
