It would have been better had they just made them both called Series 2 and just made it two models of a No GPS model and With GPS model (similar to wifi only and LTE iPads.) Which is exactly what they did but decided to call them differently.

So it's purely semantics and people would have been happier not calling the updated base model "Series 1"?

Not at all, I upgrade only if needed. It does everything I want in a smartwatch and much more. The new Watch OS3 should make things faster and I'm looking forward to that as well.

I'm not talking about them launching an Apple Watch 2, I am referring to the fact that they are re-releasing the Apple Watch 1 with a faster processor. This is pretty frustrating and aggravating.
How is it different from say, Apple updating their MacBook Air line with a faster processor and a price cut?

Apple could have given it some other name, but the end result would still have been the same. Nobody is going to want to buy a more expensive 1st gen Apple Watch at a higher price.

Probably not.

1. I would be if I were a swimmer. I'm not, so the extra waterproofing doesn't make a big difference to me (on series 2)

2. As far as series 1 versus gen 1 goes, it really depends on how WatchOS3 feels. The series 1 having a dual core processor is certainly nice, and I do feel the speed of the gen 1 watch is a little slow at times. That said, it seems like they're promising much snappier performance through software with WatchOS3, so if it that pans out then I'm not feeling cheated at all.

Why rightly so if they bought it last month, if the original AW is 1.5 years old? Did they expect Apple to never update the AW?
because they will have just spent the same amount of money last month as they would've this month, but got an inferior product. Granted, a bit of research would've revealed that something was coming soon so technically it would be their fault.

WE'll have to wait for release to find out how much faster series 1 is though. It might not even be worth an upgrade if you already own watch series 0.

I don't feel cheated in the least!

I've had my SS since launch; that's 1.5 years and it's been awesome! So good that I'm not planning on upgrading it. I may buy a S2 in a different finish for variety... but I'm very attached to my S0.

This has actually turned out to be one of the best technology purchased I've made. I use it all day every day... and it has "aged" really well. I also can't wait for OS3 to inject even more life into it.

No they don't. They add a ton of new features for the S cycle. That's why it's a new model. Same design new model.
They've never done this before. Gone back and upgraded the internals of a first gen product to the same as the new gen.

iphone 5SE?

Not just research but also common sense. 1.5 years is an extremely long time in the tech world, and one cannot reasonably buy a 1.5 year old tech device and expect them not to update it (or discontinue it).

Also, Series 2 SS models sell for the same prices as original AW SS models. Same thing as someone buying an iPhone 6s last month for the same price as the iPhone 7.

I wonder how much those $10k Apple watches are worth now?

I bet they'll go up and up in value. My guess is that since they stopped making them, they weren't selling well. So with a piece of Apple history, also made from gold which itself has intrinsic value, plus a limited supply of them they could well become a major collector's piece.

I don't feel cheated at all! It's been great so far, well worth the price and I'm glad to see new things coming out!

No, I don't feel cheated. watchOS 3 (at least as of the current beta version) is faster & better than previous OS versions on my original launch day watch.

My watch is mainly used for notifications and activity tracking (and, of course, as a watch).
I don't play games or use any graphics-intensive apps on my watch, so not sure how the new GPU will benefit me.
I don't need the swim water-resistance, so I'm ok there.
I don't necessarily need a brighter screen (on rare occasions the watch has been a little hard to see in bright direct sunlight, but definitely not worth a $600 upgrade for just that).
The battery does just fine for me - easy to go 24+ hours.
And I don't really use too many apps on the phone - Carrot Weather, Maps, Messages, Mail, Find My Friends and Home are really the only ones I use on any kind of regular basis. So while the faster processor might show some slight improvement in load times or response, I'm not feeling the need to upgrade because of that.

Perhaps I'll upgrade to the "series 3" at some time a year or so from now, but I'm still satisfied with my OG Apple Watch.
Besides, I actually have two - a 42 mm stainless/sapphire and a 42 mm gold aluminum sport. I wear one or the other depending on which matches for the day.

After having watch os 3 for quite some time now, I have changed my mind. Watch os3 has made my series 0 a completely new watch. I will sit this update out. I have no reason to update. I admit that I was wrong.

I agree with all your points and am in the same boat. For the things I use my watch for (notifications, "hey Siri" commands, telling time, alarms), Watch OS3 has made a HUGE difference.

Though, I must admit, I still have a temptation to upgrade just so that I have the best possible speed and display. But I don't need to. Not at all.

Watch OS3 was a surprisingly major upgrade for an 18 month old product. I can't think of any other company that would release a software upgrade like this for existing devices when they have new ones to sell. Certainly Samsung wouldn't. If anything, Apple has gone above and beyond. Glad you are happy with OS 3. It's a huge step forward.
