Because of your age you have to steal music? What??? When I was 13, I didn't have a computer, I didn't have the internet and I didn't have mp3s. If I wanted music... I saved my money ($5 weekly allowance) to buy a tape by my favorite bands. I still spend my own money for music except now-a-days it's much easier to find what I like because I can preview stuff before I buy it. Get a paper route or something. You wouldn't rob a bank... why would you steal stuff online?

Simple. Becouse I can. Sorry that probably sounded like a jerk.

Go ahead and climb down off your high horse there, stud.

Some of us "steal music" because most of what's out there is crap; I for one am sick of spending $30 on a CD (that's how much they cost where I live) just to get one cool song with a dozen others that suck. I still buy CDs of the bands I like (I own every Cocteau Twins, White Stripes, Stereolab, TOOL, Chevelle, and Modest Mouse CD ever released) but I discovered every one of those bands (except TOOL and Chevelle) from 'pirating' a CD or two to check out. I don't download crappy MP3's (I only download lossless, make MP3s myself for use in iTunes, and then archive the original FLAC) and I'm unwilling to download AACs from iTMS because every one of the 6,933 songs in my collection is ReplayGain'd to 89.0db and I don't want to have to use software volume limiting through iTunes or my iPod, not when I have several pairs of $1000+ headphones and a $600 headphone amp and like to be able to eke out every bit of sound quality possible on my limited budget.

So, don't be so quick to judge. Kids aren't the only ones stealing music - I have a family and a kid of my own, but I download music just the same. There are numerous reasons why (financial as well as technical) but although I'm more than willing to justify my theft, I don't actually feel I should have to. I could care less whether you approve of this behavior or not, and sitting up there on your pedestal, talking down to us sinners ('get a paper route or something!') doesn't really show the maturity you allude to having. ;)

And now, back on topic: I was probably one of the most vocal on the boards here about how lame charging $19.95 for the January App Pack was, but I'll be paying the $9.99 for the 2.0 upgrade on day ONE, no questions asked. The difference (for me) is that when the January App Pack was released, all Apple was giving us were applications that many of us had been using for free since we unboxed our iPods! It seemed like a completely rip-off, to be honest. It had little to do with the money, AFAIWC, but the principle of it. But with the 2.0 update, they're adding cool features (MobileMe with push support, new Japanese keyboards, etc) and at half the price as the January pack, I can't complain. :)

Umm okay. Often times, I'll check out a band online before I buy the CD at a store and I don't buy music unless it's 256Kbps or more and with no DRM. Listen, I am not on a pedestal... I just think (in my opinion) that you shouldn't have to steal music. It doesn't matter if a lot of music is crap or not. A lot of label sites give away a couple songs from each of their artists so that you can check them out before deciding if it's something you'll wanna buy. Also, I have a nice car stereo system and I'll use my iPod touch to browse the iTunes music store and play the samples through my car CD player.

I'll admit that a few years ago, I was into downloading music, but I realized that it's more satisfying to buy it.... I tend to care more when I've paid for something and I'm quick to dismiss things I don't pay for. I hope that made sense.

You make some very valid points. I do Belive its stealing. I no I shouldent do it. But its just more easy to open up limewire and press the download button. But out of what you said in the last paragraph, I have recently went to the store and gotten a 50 dolled iTunes Pre paid card. And I'm going to use the next 20 dollers or so towards llegal music. To try it out and see what the difference is.

The price is fine for what you're getting. Of course, no one would mind if it was free, but fact of the matter is: it isn't. So either deal with it or dish out the 9.95 you would spend at McDonalds or Burger King or wherever in one sitting, or not. You're choice. It isn't a forced update/upgrade so there is no legitimate reason to complain.

OK the reason some people "steal" music is because they dont have money to pay for the songs not every one is rich. the second reason is because they dont feel it is worth it, after paying 300+ for a device they are not going to pay 500 bucks lets say for music. I myself do not belive it is "stealing" i belive it is illegal though. Some people thing that wahts on the computer should be free weather or not illegal or legal. itunes is such a conveience in my opinion.

I download all my movies/videos off itunes legaly but music half of it is itunes the other is cd and the rest is free because i am signed upt to this website that gives free song downloads only if you edit it its a free online music editor.

thats a bit of a rant ... my $0.02 :D

People who are choosing 'No, i hate it, i wished it was FREE', do you also expect your;

- TV license?
- Digital camera?
- Computer(s)?
- Microwave?
- Access to the internet?

... to cost NOTHING?!

Get over it, the world doesn't work like that. The 2.0 Software will add more functionality then you've ever had on your device.

You work, you pay. Simple.

R-Fly

Actually, it is quite simple. Apple doesn't have to charge 10 euros (that's about 16 US dollars) for this. They could have charged a more symbolic amount, for instance 0.99 euros (that's about 1.60 US dollars), as they did with the N-update. Since there was no poll-option that gave that possibility I chose free.

I agree that it is better than it was in January, but I still prefer th pay a little bit less: for instance 0.99 euros (that's about 1.60 US dollars) or 1.99 euros (that's about 3.20 US dollars). I think 9.99 euros (as it costs that here) which is about 16 US dollars, is a bit too much.

I also think that Apple has a much too complicated and tedious way of activating an iTunes account in Europe if you are not willing to use a creditcard. The much simpler and more flexible options they provide for buying Apple equipment are not provided with activating an iTunes account. People in Europe tend to prefer using bankaccounts more than creditcards (aside from some exceptions like the UK and Turkey).

I think $9.99 is a fair price. There's a lot of features in the new 2.0 upgrade and the AppStore is the biggest. There's gonna be a lot of free apps on there, you just wait and see. I hate how everyone has an attitude that since it's only SOFTware, it should be free... well... just like anything else in the world, that software was made by people who worked hard to bring you new and exciting things and then you complain that they want to charge?

Would you rather they just NOT continue to improve the iPhone OS and keep it exactly the way 1.1.4 is and just release bug fixes? Bug fixes with no additional functionality = free. New features = not free. That's the same with the full Mac OS X as well.

Final thought: Get over it.

the jailbreaking software is free
freeware software is free
justbecause it comes fom a big name company dose not mean they have to charge you for it

I have the iPhone, not the iTouch. I don't agree with it. I don't think they will be charging for 3G updates just like the current iPhone. And the iTouch is very high in price. AT&T won't be paying shared revenues on the 3G iPhone. So why are they really charging for the iTouch update. They are making enough on the price of the iTouch AND the price of the songs purchased.

why not? i'm new to this.

Apple puts DRM on updates that come from iTunes. Therefore, unless you knew the torrent person's account name and password, you won't be able to install it on your iPhone or iPod touch.

Oh, I didn't know bittorrent has a user name and password. I have been utorrent for a while and haven't noticed that either. I guess they'll include a user name and pass if they want to share. Thanks for the info.

Why can't we get back to the good old :apple: days when all the cool new stuff we got in the updates was free, I think they made money mainly with the hardware....whisper...
