Do you feel that SE is inferior product to the 6S?

or they could have shaved off the bezels??
something please to make it different from what we already have.
that could have been a greater selling point

I guess there is a sort of arrogance to this; saying that you could have "most" of 6S's internals - provided it's in an old body.

My guess is Apple never wanted to re-invent the 4' iPhone just upgrade the old 5s. Maybe its them testing the water since the released the 5c.

I'm thinking they'd give a decent 4' IP a go and see how sales go, if all does well maybe a big upgrade next cycle round.

as an apple fan i also like to keep my old handsets just for sentiment and i was hoping for a slightly tweaked physical design and because i already have the old slate Black iP5 in my collection i do not see myself going ahead with this purchase

I thought it was meant to be a starter iPhone, and as such would be more budget that bling.

I feel that the SE is a winner, I'd consider one if they had 128GB. The 6S speed and 2GB of ram is really nice for the price. I have a bunch of 5/5S cases already, too, lol.

I don't understand how its possible for people to be so incompetent. Is it really THAT HARD to understand where the iPhone SE fits? Greg Joswiack actually stood up there and told the moronic public exactly what this product is for and who the market is. It's a 4" iPhone, in the style of the classic 5 series, for people who still love that size and form. It's also incredibly affordable, yet 99% the quality of an iPhone 6S.

There isn't anything to discuss or debate.

The SE is a lot of phone for the money. Apple will sell a ton of them, especially in China, which is going to be their most lucrative emerging market for the foreseeable future.

is it just the speed which is different or is the new Touch ID more accurate too ?
the 6s touch id is definitely more accurate than the 5s' touch id. On the 5s i got misses all the time, on the 6s however its about 99% accurate.

I don't think it's an inferior product in Apples current lineup. There are a few compromises, but nothing that's crucial for what a smartphone is.

What else can Apple innovate with the current state of technology?

Battery life is always an issue
Waterproof
Durability
Oled

What else, macrumors?

Out of that list I'd prefer to see battery life (not that I have a problem with mine) and OLED, the rest I feel isn't needed for a smartphone.

Yeah, I'm just not sure I love the 4" form factor enough to upgrade to a new phone that looks effectively the same as my 5. I had gotten to the point of resigning myself to the newer design and size when I next upgrade, and now suddenly they're offering a 4" upgrade that keeps the old design. I honestly expected them to at least change something so that the old cases wouldn't fit or something. It's very unlike Apple to bring out a new device with an old design, at least in terms of iPhone.

But that's what is so great about it. I think you are underestimating how many people love not only the 4" form factor, but also the 5/5s design.

99% eh? So the facts that
- It does not have 3D Touch
- It does not have a Barometer
- Front facing camera is still 1.2mp
- Does not offer the 128GB model
- First iteration slower TouchID sensor
- No dual domain pixels
- No LTE advanced
Account for 1%?

Is it meant to compete with the 6s or 6s+? I doubt it. Seems to me that the SE in general is being geared towards:
a) Those that want a smaller phone
b) market areas where the 6s or 6s+ aren't options (too pricey. Market areas in developing nations and such)

I don't know if the SE is really an inferior phone, especially if one considers option b. its a lower budget phone that could make itself available in places where premium phones just aren't realistic. AS for option a, probably just an added bonus

As someone who always buys 16GB iPhones, the £349 SE is fantastic value.

Reports are saying that it does indeed pack 2GB of RAM so combined with the smaller screen it should be super smooth for years to come.

I'm on an iPhone 6 just now and have adjusted to the larger screen just fine, but my only issue would be the design. I'm not someone who wants a design to show off the latest model, but I've been there and done that and it's nice to have something a little different after a while.

If by inferior you mean less features, well it is then inferior. To some it will be easy to do anyway as they are wanting a smaller phone. No me I use the 6S+ and can not ever see me going back to a 4" screen. Others have been waiting on this for a while now and glad Apple is making them happy.
Agree the premise of question , if it is inferior, does not make sense.

Is the Focus hatchback inferior to F 150 pickup? Focus can't carry a bunch of shrubs once a year like the pickup. And And supposedly the Focus won't make me as macho as the pickup.

Then again I can get 40 miles per gallon on the Focus. And carry two bikes inside with the back seats down. Way easier to park.

So which is inferior? Guess it depends on what my priorities are.

Want my phone to have largest screen, biggest battery, smallest footprint, one hand use, easy in pocket, display two web sites at once. So maybe all my phone choices are inferior to my wish list.

5se will fit perfect for people wanting small phone yet latest speed, with majority of features suitable for small phone. Biggest problem will be for people that can't make up their minds. Oh no, not another choice!

I can not understand why so many are questioning the SE as so many wanted a smaller device. Now that it is here all you hear is disappointment that it lacks some features. I guess they were expecting a 4" screen device with all the 6S+ features. Some are even willing to pay for that but Apple choose to use the opportunity to clean up on the bottom feeders at the same time. I think Apple was smart.

It's the perfect size for me but sadly the camera fails to match my new Galaxy S7 in low light. I would have taken the SE over the S7 in an instant if Apple's camera was as good as Samsung's in all lighting conditions.

I don't think any company will ever make my perfect smartphone! There's always a catch...

Agree 100%
Apple will sell these like hot cakes, based on all the holdouts that for variety of reasons did not upgrade to 6s and 6s+. I'm like you and could not give up the 6s+ screen. But my favorite phone before it was the 5s. As a phone it is the perfect size. Now with faster processor and 2 GB Ram, top camera, you give up very little to keep the size you want.

And lower price will definitely help clean out remaining old iPhone users.
