Do you feel that SE is inferior product to the 6S?

That descibes my usage exactly. On rare occasions do I use my phone to surf or to watch a quick video. I have an iPad that gets used for surfing, movies, and video. I tried the 6+ for a few days and I didn't care for the size. Moved down to iPhone 6 which helped but I really just want the smaller form factor for daily use.

Which means even the upgrade of internals not much valuable as most would just use it as a basic phone?

Makes the argument stronger they could have struck a balance between that and a tweak on the physical outlook to entice more potential buyers.

Possibly, however the upgraded internals do factor in as well. I would not buy a 5s no matter how many times I looked at them because I wanted updated internals in a small form factor. Having the power button on top vs the side is another bonus. I don't think the 5s design looks dated imo. There is only so many shapes you can make using a rectangle. Perhaps if this phone sells well, they will update the design in the future. Until then I plan to get the SE and enjoy it for what it is.

ETA: I guess I see the phone more as a tool vs a piece of art. Much like a toaster, as long as it does its job right in decent amount of time I'm happy.

It's a great replacement for the 5s/5c in the iPhone lineup. The size is perfect for many people and it has plenty of power to run today's more demanding apps.

Well, I feel SE is a budget device
Why do you feel that way? Apple could have used an A8, 1GB ram, 8MP back camera, same battery as the 5S, plastic design like the 5C, no Touch ID, and so on...but instead it got the 6S internal specs +/- a few things, that the average consumer doesn't really care about.

There are toasters and then there are toasters.

That 1.2MP F/2.4 front facing camera though... why Apple, why? The only real disappointing omission I feel.

You guys surely know how to beat a dead horse back to life. This phone isn't supposed to be better or even equal to the 6s. It's aimed at people who like the 5 size and/or people who have a 6 or 6s that want to go back to a 4 inch phone.
It's not meant to be an iPhone 7 or something everyone is going to want to upgrade to. It's meant to be a 4 inch option at a decent price with some pretty amazing specs for almost a budget iPhone. Any other arguments or just to argue about something. If you don't want it, don't buy it but don't bash others for buying it. I for one am passing on my 6s and purchased an SE. It's exactly what I need in a phone.

does the demand for 4 inch devices indicate people want a less expensive iPhone, or do they actually want a smaller one. If the former, then it still makes sense to innovate its innards towards a more secure and reliable device. If the latter, then iPhone SE is inferior

Good question, and one that will be difficult to untangle.

I think Tim Cook mentioned they're selling millions of the 5s, so there's an untapped market sector, that Apple could leverage. I don't can't say if those sales were because the 5s (and now SE) is cheaper, or because of the screen size.

For me, its both, I like the idea of not spending 700 dollars and I'm tired of 5.5" phablet that is the 6 plus

For me, I want a smaller phone.

I'd pay up for a fully featured model if Apple offered one. I'd pay the same price as the 6S/7.

I hate how Apple is continuously finding ways to use their current supply chain to expand product offerings. On the one hand it's a very smart business move to easily add profits but on the other hand there is absolutely zero innovation in the iPhone SE.
So many people have been asking for this type of phone. SoC upgrades, ram upgrades on a four inch screen phone. Using existing platform speeds up delivery instead of designing from scratch.

You may hate it, so don't buy it. Wait for the iPhone seven. Apple never made claim this is latest innovative phone. They provided a timely version to meet a segment of users that for variety of reasons did not upgrade to the 6 series.

And in order to offer at a more reasonable cost they will capture more mid cost users. Smart move that is answering buyer's desires.

I don't think of the SE as a budget device at all. With a few minor exceptions here and there, it is pretty much a four inch iPhone 6s. I've been using my 5s since day one, and in my opinion it's the best designed iPhone ever made. I had no interest in upgrading to a 6 or 6s as I didn't want a bigger screen, 3D Touch doesn't get me excited (tried it out a few times at the Apple Store, couldn't care less about it), and I've despised those antenna bands.

The SE is definitely for me. I will be buying one the first chance I get.

Of course the SE is inferior to the 6s but its $250 cheaper ($350 cheaper than a similarly configured 6s+). Its up to you to decide if the tradeoffs are worth it.

For me, the few tradeoffs are worth it and I'll be buying one on March 31 when they are available in store.

I don't know how so many people are hating on the first generation Touch ID though. From clicking the home button to looking at my home screen takes one second on my 5S. Is ONE SECOND really that much of a problem for people these days? Cripes.

People just like to complain. They should be reminded that every iPad that has a TouchID in it, including the new Pro's, have the 1st Generation TouchID.

It's more than fast and reliable enough. I never have any issues and barely notice the difference between my Air 2 and my 6S.
