The new 'tinted' option feels like a slap in the face. I mean, do these guys actually communicate with each other?

The additional 2% opaqueness is about as useful a chocolate kettle.

Tinted adds more shadow. That isn't tinting, that's... well adding more shadow. Maybe Apple's engineers know more about the physics of glass than me.

On the bright side, the border of each button is now more defined.

I can almost feel the struggle with this one. How does one present a 100% of an image in its original format without altering the window corner radius.

"It's okay guys! The bottom corners usually aren't important. Just tell 'em to zoom out."
- Some bonehead

It's made naff all difference for me. The change is so subtle it's not worth it. I saw a screen shot of sequoia earlier and forgot how good it looked because it did exactly what Liquid Glass was meant to which is get out of the way. The bottom screen shot of yours alone has 4 things that should never have passed testing.

The corner radius - crops images as shown AND wastes space (toolbars and icons have less space as they have to be moved inwards to accommodate the daft radius).

The edge of the image is far too close to the edge of the window. Either add a little padding so its not jarring or get rid of the border completely.

The weird floaty buttons that are meant to be layers of glass but are really an ugly shape with misaligned icons with a massive shadow underneath making it float way above the surface its meant to sit on.

I genuinely regret 'upgrading'. I have no interest in ANY of the 'features' they've added. All I got was a **** looking UI with even ******** UX.

I like tinted glass on iOS because it doesn't have the clear background for Message previews on a locked screen.

To be honest I think I see a bit of a difference in Music, but those two screenshots of Finder look completely identical to me 😬

So, it appears the latest iOS beta has a Liquid Glass slider - of sorts - for the lock screen.

There is only one response to this.

This has to be a step in the right direction. Fundamentally the UI is flawed, but a slider to effect system wide transparency would at least mitigate some issues.

yes!

moreover, let macOS have independent Reduced Transparency and Increase Contrast Settings like iOS 26.1. Why differentiation?

Is anyone else surprised Apple didn’t alter the system alert sounds to tie-in with Liquid Glass, given what a dramatic overhaul it is?

The changes they made for Big Sur were unnecessary in my opinion, just altering the sounds for the sake of it.

I mean, I'm still waiting for the return of the backlit Apple logo on laptop lids............

I just hope it blinks on the lid and plays the fanfare sound when they bring it back, but its outline also morphs with the wallpaper on my screen, so I can see it through any context menu I have open. and it also better be a touchscreen, so I can trace my precious blinking logo with my finger, setting off emoji fireworks as I do. my productivity will skyrocket.

I've just done a screenshot to illustrate something on a forum.

But the bleed through from what is behind was super-annoying. I had to consider two things: Security and Visibility.

My bank has a very distinctive look to its website. I do not want people to be aware that I was using my bank website at all. And I certainly do not want to have to think to myself "I hope there is no deconvolution technique which can be applied to a liquid glass screenshot that could reveal detail from the bled through window."

Now anyone viewing my screenshot sees strange tinted areas of bleed through that make zero sense to them. You can see the Raspberry Pi and Palm OS logos bleeding through. (I was careful NOT to allow anything sensitive to show.) They are very identifiable. And messy for anyone viewing my screenshot.

Yes - I do understand I can do things to avoid these issues. But I shouldn't have to.

I read this article over at 9to5 and wanted to share just as a reminder of how the 'little things' mean alot...

in macOS26 the GUI has failed to consider simple things like line thickness, color choice to avoid bleeding into the backgrounds, overall visual clarity. Jobs knew this, it doesnt feel/look like that 'torch has been passed'

overall visual clarity.

You know, I gave in a couple weeks ago and moved to 26. I'm okay with most of it, but your comment here resonated with me in that I've found when a collection of rounded corners comes together and I need to interact with them, it takes me longer than it should to identify what's what in order to click where I need to click.

So much round. So many pills.

Everything just blends into one doesn't it? Sounds daft but it's like looking at a herd of Zebras. You struggle to pick out a single entity. A good designer should know about and understand optical illusions and what works and what doesnt.

Unsure if this is an oversight or intended, but Preview still has a more sensible corner radius when you open the file select window. It's amazing how much better it looks and really pains me when you compare it to Finder.

The ridiculously over rounded corners is one of the dumbest changes they’ve made.

I just can't get past the corners. So ugly and painful for window management. What an incredible waste of space for no good reason. There are many better ways to occupy the corners of the screen without the silly concentric look. They fell in love with the idea without consideration and now we're stuck with it. The fat round windows are the equivalent of fake shutters on a house, which for a designer, should be a fatal insult.
