It's just going to be one of those things. Some like it, some don't. Make up your own mind. You don't need to justify your decision by posting threads about it. The question is, do YOU like the notch?

I don't love it to say it nicer. But it's not the deal killer either for me either. I'm going to play iPhone X lottery in a couple weeks. If I win great. If it's backordered to kingdom come or January, whichever comes first, I'll stick with my 7 until next Sep when, one would think, Apple will have production for the next gen flowing smoothly.

Long term I think it's one of those things Apple will work out the tech and it will be gone like a 48hr flu.

I'm sure the iPhone X will sell plenty and make AAPL lots of profit, but the notch and the way Apple's software and guidelines are handling it signals to me that Apple has lost their way as far as design is concern. If this is the future of the iPhone (not just the notch, but various other aspects of the X and choices made for how iOS works on it), I'll be taking a harder look at alternatives to the iPhone.

You could say that I should hold out judgement until I can try one out in person, and maybe that's true for some aspects of it, but what we know right now can be clearly seen and there are aspects of the iPhone X that are undeniable. Now, Apple could make some changes in software to lessen the bad design, but their current trajectory is not encouraging.

I hate to say it, but the fact that so many claim to like it (almost half in this poll at present) reinforces the stereotype that Apple users will cognitive dissonance themselves into liking whatever Apple puts out. Now, I think Apple had for so many years had consistently dependable designs, and you could just keep buying Apple products and have certain expectations consistently met. So I understand why this might happen, but I think too many people are giving Apple a free pass on what is a horrible misstep.

Let's hope it's just a misstep.

let's put it this way;

If Samsung came with a notch like the one on the iPhone X, the internet would completely collapse (even if people deny this here at macrumors but know its simply true).
But since its Apple, the notch is okay, no question's asked.

(and I am still ordering one on the 27th! 😎 )
not really sure if accurate.

if Samsung had a notched screen design, i think there would be less online chatter regarding it.

like— there would be one thread here about it instead of one hundred.

It’s strictly a marketing gimmick to call the phone “edge to edge” and claim it’s a 5.8 inch screen. All notch sensors could have been in a much thinner uniform top bezel. These are strictly objective facts.
This particular sensor cluster is the first of its kind (that allows Face ID to work), so I don't think they could've been squished together any more than what's been shown in many images.

Next year maybe....I think we may see a sensor/camera array that's not as wide, but we'll still have an untouchable area as under-screen sensor/camera tech won't have arrived by then...maybe.

really wondering if people like it

The notch is not an issue to be honest. If i was to have more issues it's most likely the pricing and the storage choice haha because I would love 128GB but now i'm split between the two... as 256GB is rather steep for my actual usage. but then I'm going 64GB anyway, still kinda bummed the 128GB went away buit I'm more of a photo person rather than video [casually a few clips but not so much till i use up all the storage]. hahaha, with 4k 60fps video as a matter of a subject, I wouldn't even display it on iPhone X if I had the chance as the theoretical closest is 1080p format, would probably take it to my computer edit and downsample it to 1080p 60fps and reload it back onto the iPhone it would make more sense tbh...

Yea that's the truth, ppl expect so much of apple's clean design and this took them by shock but I don't mind, at least they did an almost full screen display that's the main point. The notches I'm willing to take it, if people not happy then don't buy it simple... zzz

I don’t like th Notch or the new aspect ratio. I also have no interest in facial recognition.

The Essential Phone has a notch and was before the iPhone X was announced. The internet didn’t collapse. The funny thing about the Essential Phone though. The notch wasn’t necessary to make the screen “more edge to edge”, because it has a chin bezel plus the top notch. It was purely a design choice.

So you basically interpret what is a coherent, relative, and logical argument as something you can dismiss with "i think they have the technology to make the sensors but not spread them out."

I mean I'm sorry but that's just laughable.

What an arsehole of a response, belittling someone who replied to you with respect...

I’m not getting the X, I went with the 8+ for reasons, however I don’t care one bit for the notch. I think people LOVE complaining about every single thing Apple makes. If it’s an awesome product they sure will dig deep to find a flaw and cry about it. It’s a damn phone Apple is NOT forcing you to buy it if you don’t like it then buy another phone. This is just my opinion.

Where were you before I spent thousands of dollars on my therapist after the sept 12th keynotes?!
[doublepost=1507857610][/doublepost]Anyone who likes that notch and thinks they will get used to it, you are definitely a chosen child!

The notch is not something you like, but something you may or may not put up with.

But, it may become a more widespread form factor, across different manufactures. I doubt Apple actually has an enofrcable notch patent; way to general a technology. Anyway, apparently they are way ahead anyway.

My only regret, is that Apple named it X instead of iNotch; but it doesn't prevent me from calling it that 😀

A missed opportunity, no doubt.

LOL@patent ... if this notch takes off and others adapt it I will go back to rotary phones!

I love how if someone says they like the notch everyone comes out to say that Apple fans will accept anything Apple puts out. No I like the notch because it’s a neat design. It’s not just because it’s Apple. I’m going to buy it because I like it.

I tend to like quirky designs. I like lots of quirky cars that others find ugly, I like different artistic things that are abnormal or technically imperfect so for me the design of the X kind of fits into that category. Ultimately it's a phone so if they change it next year or a few years from now thats fine, but I embrace the quirky look of the notch.

They think it’s cool to hate on Apple yet they don’t buy a different phone, they still end up buying their products

Not a good poll. The only two options are "it's wonderful!" or "I hate it". There's a lot of us in the middle that don't care one way or the other. I can't vote for either of those two options.

I don't *like* it in the sense that I would put it there for no reason. But, I do like how the corners of the screen go further into the corners of the phone, and the curves match up, unlike LG, Pixel 2 XL, etc. And if the notch is the tradeoff that makes that possible, then so be it. Maybe one day we can have the corner-to-corner screen AND no notch, and that would obviously be ideal. Until then, I like Apple's compromise.

No I do not like the notch. It makes the phone asymmetric and hideous. Doesn't matter, I'm only buying the X to flip for profit anyway. Sheep will buy anything Tim puts out.
