It's pretty sad that some of the people here are actually proud of knowingly defrauding Apple. It's one thing to get refund(s) for one or more bumper(s) without asking for the refund, but it's morally wrong to request a free case AFTER receiving the refund. It doesn't matter how much it cost Apple to make these or that you wrongly feel that they OWE it to you. And what's even more sad is that some of you are probably proud that you cheated Apple. Well at least those that cheated Apple can finally shut the heck up and stop whining. Karma's a b*tch.

Pipe down whiny ass. I've never had or complained about reception problems, yet my bumper got refunded without me asking. Then I get another email offering a free case? You bet your sweet ass I'm gonna request it. If Apple gave a flying **** they would have done something with a more complex authentication to stop all us "cheaters".

p.s. I'm PROUD to say I took advantage of what Apple had to offer me.

Thank you, O self designated moral policeman. Now get over yourself.

Just the type of responses I expected.

It's pretty simple... if Apple really cared about getting defrauded, they would have done something to prevent it. They don't care about it, and neither should people complaining here. To each their own though.

That's like saying if I leave the front door open, I'm inviting people to rob my house

The "holier than thou" attitude needs to stop. Get off the high horse. You don't think Jobs shows moral ethics every single day of his life to get to where he is at? I've read he is a complete jackass to work with.

If Steve Jobs was giving away $30 CASH to every first 1000 customers of every Apple Store, peope would line up whether they deserved it or not.

They made me an offer I couldn't refuse. I accepted the offer. That is NOT stealing or cheating the system. They still offered. If all I got was a refund, I would still have been content with it. Not my fault some of you naked iP4 owners didn't get a bumper before this giveaway. You had a week to figure it out.

I bought a bumper that I was planning on returning and I got an email this morning saying that they'd automatically processed my refund. I also got an email (3 actually) this evening saying that I am eligible for a free case. So yes I really think I'll get both.

Well (and I'm not the one doing this) - Unless Apple is taking down Apple IDs and iPhone 4 Serial #s when these people are returning them - I don't see how they can cross reference. Which is unfortunate.

I could have bought 10 bumpers and returned them all. Maybe I got one as a gift and returned it.

A few things would have to be linked to guarantee it was one per customer OR exchange and I'm not 100 percent convinced they have that in place.

I'm not sure Apple cares. Their accounting department probably calculated a worse case scenario based on the number of Bumpers actually sold and will put anything less than that into gas for Steve's Gulfstream.

Wasn't being holy. That doesn't mean I can't point out what's morally right and wrong.

Apple is refunding both bumpers I bought at my Apple Store (credit card) and I got an email saying I qualify for a free case. I was excited until I saw only black bumpers are on the list. Already have one. Was hoping white would be on there too. I wanna ice cream sanvich.

It's also cheaper for them to refund people the price of their bumper and give them a new case rather than processing a full return for the phone. I think for that reason alone they won't make any changes. I'd give up $60 or so any day if I had my guaranteed $200+.

Yep. This thing is eLooting. "They sent me an email, they must want me to have it."

People, look at the intent of the program.. To make everyone happy, even those not in the 0.55%. And this is to address the signal issue, to make sure that everyone with a phone has access to a bumper or case at no charge. If you bought one, you get your money back. If you didn't and want one, you get one for free. If none of those options is satisfactory, you can return the phone.

So how does getting more than one free case help with the signal problem any better? It doesn't. Apple does not intend to give away any more than one per phone. I don't know why it appears differently in some cases (pun) , it may be like I said before, that it costs more to check than give away more bumpers.

But more likely, there's a problem with this ordering system too and they will correct it before shipments start. They went to all the trouble of making an app that only allows one for the phone it's on, so that tells you something right there.

And lastly, how many bumpers do you think have been sold? Half a million? A million? They really intend to refund all those purchases PLUS send those same people another one, thus clogging up the system and delaying shipments to others?

No, something is wrong here, and I'll bet it's going to hit engadget before the weekend is over.

You can always get store credit at apple for an unopened product without a receipt. Even better, if you want cash, find someone who is paying cash and use your gift card in exchange for their cash.

To all you people complaining that ANYONE is ripping Apple off, try asking someone that works at Best Buy how much they pay for accessories. The cost to make vs. the actual price may surprise you.

THIS

6 years ago I worked in a wholesale cell phone accessory warehouse.

That same leather case or holster that you pay 15 bux for a dealer can walk out with for 1 dollar.

I remember when the first Bluetooth headset came out, on our website it was $124.99, the wholesalers would pay $24.99.

The markup on cheap items is even crazier!
Antenna boosters for $9? Try 15 cents for wholesalers.

On a regular basis I would pack a $50 order for a retail customer, which could be a couple generic pouches and 2 clip on face plates.

Then I would fill a $50 wholesale order which could be 20-50 items!

NO mass made cell phone accessory cost more than a buck to make.

So what? That's how they were able to pay you. Would you rather not get paid since they didn't make enough on margins. Is your insurance, worker's comp free?

What I'm think though is people may not want the refund and want their free case. I'd happily just order a free case and not get a refund on my bumper.

That doesn't make sense. You can use the refund money to purchase the case of choice at the store, which would be sooner than waiting for Apple.

The Apple Stores are no longer selling any bumpers.

I think what he/she was saying that if they just gave the free case and didn't offer a refund they would've been happy. If they're happy with the case they use now it's just an added bonus if they ever feel the need to use a different case for awhile. I get what you're saying with time delay though.

the apple store i went to said they don't have any iphone 4 cases...apple had them ship all back to a warehouse...i'm assuming for quicker dissimination to the end user. so i don't think apple stores will have any stock for a while.

Apple clearly does not care. They don't want the case giveaway turning into a nightmare of complaints over checks and balances. They want the issue to die, they're obviously just throwing them out the door at whoever requests a case. "Already got a refund for one you bought? Who cares, here's another one. Keep quiet."

Yep, Apple really doesn't care about people getting multiple cases, if anything they want said people would be even more happy with multiple free cases so they shut up and don't bitch.
