the newest apple app for the bumper has a secret code that detects if you already have a bumper on your iPhone, so by doing this they will know who is who, and who is trying what.
Big brother is watching you...

My only regret is i didn't buy more bumpers

I wish I had bought a white one. My Apple Store didn't have any in stock and now they are unavailable. I'm curious as to why they didn't offer the other color choices with the free case program.

Probably they need to crank out a single color to meet the demand. Otherwise it'll slow down already slow process.

Terms and conditions do not mention anything about receiving a refund and a free case. If they automatically process your refund and invite you to participate in the free case program, what is the issue?

We share the same Point of view.

If Apple emails you and says, "Hey, want a free case?" Just take the case. :D

Yep. This thing is eLooting. "They sent me an email, they must want me to have it."

People, look at the intent of the program.. To make everyone happy, even those not in the 0.55%. And this is to address the signal issue, to make sure that everyone with a phone has access to a bumper or case at no charge. If you bought one, you get your money back. If you didn't and want one, you get one for free. If none of those options is satisfactory, you can return the phone.

So how does getting more than one free case help with the signal problem any better? It doesn't. Apple does not intend to give away any more than one per phone. I don't know why it appears differently in some cases (pun) , it may be like I said before, that it costs more to check than give away more bumpers.

But more likely, there's a problem with this ordering system too and they will correct it before shipments start. They went to all the trouble of making an app that only allows one for the phone it's on, so that tells you something right there.

And lastly, how many bumpers do you think have been sold? Half a million? A million? They really intend to refund all those purchases PLUS send those same people another one, thus clogging up the system and delaying shipments to others?

No, something is wrong here, and I'll bet it's going to hit engadget before the weekend is over.

Seriously it is not that big of a deal it cost like 25 cents to make one of those things apple does not care because they want people to keep buying products even though they did not have to give free cases away they know they will make a couple hundred dollars from you in the next year and ongoing for apple this is means to an end you act like people are robbing them point blank. Why don't you start a donation thread to help them with their cost

Exactly. No one doing this is "stealing" from Apple. Does anyone think that me or any other vet using the Post 911 GI Bill* for school and working at the same time is taking advantage of the government? We are only taking advantage of the benefits we earned. And buying a bumper and an iPhone 4 has earned customers the right to both a refund and a free one. At least until Apple says "one or the other".

*For those who don't know, the new GI Bill pays you a living allowance on top of your tuition, fees and $1000 a year for books.

The only people who disagree with getting two free cases are those who lack the machismo to hit "Place Order" on the bumper app. That's all.

You're afraid. It's okay. Nobody is getting reprimanded for this. Put your hand in the cookie jar like everyone else.

And I'm sorry but this nostalgic tone about past morals and ethics in the world...Are you guys kidding? I think there has been and will always be more terrible things than ordering a second free iPhone 4 case.

And when the government was all up in your life and telling you how to live and what to do, that's when the government was scamming YOU.

:D
:apple:

Trust me, you won't. If you paid for a bumper you will get a refund. If you also ordered a bumper or case with the case app, that will either be cancelled or you will be charged for it.

Do you really think that Apple can't cross-reference these things to determine what you're actually entitled to? And SHAME on those who are bragging about how they are getting more than one, as if Apple wants them to have it.

Nuff said.

I already got a free case after requesting one from Apple Care on June 25th AND I just got my refund for another bumper I bought.

So you and this thread are an epic fail.

Oh, any I just ordered my 3rd free case using the app for sh*ts and grins. Just to piss you off some more.

Yes only damning evdience is some of you have low to no morals and I'm tired of arguing with those people since they will continue to think they are right.

So I have no morals because Apple refunded my bumper, then hours later told me I could still get an aditional case? Why is it that people put on such a moral face on the internet? Does it really affect your life so much that I got two free cases that you feel the need to belittle people and tell them they have no integrity? Get a life.

Over-compensation for their real life behavior.

I want to know how I received an email for my itunes account used on my iphone and one to my MobileMe email? I only have 1 iPhone..

What's your source for the manufacturing and development cost of the bumper? Development cost is rolled into the expense of products.

Who at Apple told you that they don't care about people double dipping?

Good point. That's why the second free case I ordered was not a bumper, so I don't have to worry about Apple's development and manufacturing costs. :D

I sleep really really well at night.

LOL, I returned my iPhone 4 the day after it was introduced and never returned the bumper and now they are giving me a credit for the bumper!

I'm sure you do. Society has it's share of people that care very little for somebody else's hard work.

A large minority these days seem to have a sense of entitlement and fail to see the cost to others for their free ride. Thanks for bringing society down one more fraction of a click.

Every double dipper is contributing to the wait others have for their free case to be delivered.

APPLE TOLD PEOPLE WHO ALREADY WERE REFUNDED THAT THEY COULD GET ANOTHER CASE.

Why does this concern you so much, that you have to deem everyone who disagrees immoral? I truly wonder if you are so honest and proud when you're not staring at a computer screen. I can't help but think that people are entirely two-faced and think they have such high morals when on the internet.

What do you really know about me? I'm not getting a free ride from anybody (except my university of choice to which I am eternally grateful), and I've never had so much as a parking ticket but I do know right from wrong and you are completely wrong to make judgments on consumers' relationships with corporations.

My guess is that you will order a second case once you realize everyone else is because if there is any "large minority" in this situation it's you.

And yes, I chose a case that Apple bought for me through a third party manufacturer. If they choose to ship me that case, then I guess everyone is satisfied except you.

Some recent posts from gehrbox:

"I think Apple grossly overcharged for the bumper, so ya I would like my refund"

"Seems like the price is right for the bumper case."

"Give Apple some credit, after all it really is a very nice rubber band:)"

"Not had any problems making calls with my iP4."

"I used mine for two weeks without a case, no problems. My area is not a real strong ATT area either. I bought the bumper to protect it when I lay it down."

"It's a wasted effort to try and convince them. If Apple gave everyone their money back and let them keep the phones some people here would complain that they don't want their money back."

"Isnt using the lords name in vain worse?"

"Good summary of the feeding frenzy that is going on. You can see that witch burning and blood letting have a modern equivalent."

"You don't know Apple."

"You guys are like ants. Plug one small hole and you just keep looking for an even smaller one for entry."

Interesting to say the least. I accept our difference in opinion but do you accept your own differences of opinions?

It seems that all but a select few of the posters on this thread fail to grasp a most basic concept, that it is wrong to take something that doesn't belong to you.

Rationalize all you want, but Apple does not intend to give away any more than one free case per phone. If you get two refunds, or are allowed to order a case after getting a refund, then it's a mistake that they've made.

The same kind of mistake as if someone drops a wad of cash on the street and you pick it up. Is it yours? No. Is it your responsibility to find the owner? Yes.

And that money is not yours until you've made a reasonable effort to locate the owner.

Have you made a reasonable effort to be honest today?

But what you don't grasp is that Apple refunded the bumpers, then sent out an email hours later, telling customers they could still get a free case from the app. That's hardly stealing. I still can't even fathom why this is such a huge issue for you. There are so many other things in the world to worry about, yet you focus your time on a cheap case, and being a "moral" person towards a company that you shell out thousands of dollars towards. This is such a nonfactor issue in the grand scheme of things, and you're using it to make yourself seem more honest and righteous than everyone who disagrees with you.

I could go into all the philosophy of why this is an issue for me, but I won't. I'll just say that it has to do with values and ethics, which I feel are important.

I do understand about the emails. But what I'm saying, is that they made a mistake, and error. The right hand isn't aware of what the left hand is doing.

I can understand there may be honest confusion as to their intent, but the evidence points to the fact that they intend only one case per phone. And knowing this, our response as customers, and citizens, should be to help them correct their mistake, not take advantage of it.
