I've always been an Apple fan. But Leopard is a huge, huge disappointment.
So many incompatibilities. So unstable. And not many improvements.
The OS has crashed on me once. NTFS-3g doesn't work any more. The Apple remote doesn't work with VLC any more. And even the humble little wClock doesn't work any more. 😡

not sure what apps you're using but here no regrets. all works very well and is snappier. the new leopard features are really welcome as well (quicklook, spaces, etc. so great).

if the remote doesn't work with vlc anymore then that's most likely because vlc itself needs to be specifically upgraded to leopard i guess.

I was regretting it last night but I was miserable & exhausted.

I find:

Safari is slower and there is a lag response for many things. I've run Onyx to clean and it still seems slower.

Issues in finder the column view sometimes is disabled.

When reading an email, the 'mail activity' shows I'm receiving an email.... during that time, the body of the email dissappears while I'm reading it and then I have to go dig around for the email again.

STILL no "Print Selection" wow.

The rest - As mentioned above, I'm ticked at some of the 3rd parties for not being prepped for this. It's my understanding its not difficult to be a developer to get the seeds, etc pre-launch.

I do not regret it at all. I love leopard.

Everyone expected perfection with leopard and you were crazy to think that you would get it.

There is always going to be problems when you get something out too millions of people.

And remember leopard isnt quite finished yet. It will be much better when 10.5.1 comes out

I am very happy with Leopard on my three machines. There are certain small things that could be fixed (I miss list view on the dock too, and the transparency in the menu bar really should be an option or modifiable opacity). But overall, Leo is significantly faster on my Mac Pro, no slower on my other machines, and adds lots of critical functionality that I was always missing (like notes).

I have no compatibility problems, either. I'm very happy with this release.

I Installed Leopard immediately when i bought Leopard on a local Apple store on friday and tested many things. It's a way better then Tiger and have no problems at all. It's running fast en very smooth on my new Mac mini Core2Duo 2.0GHz 1GB/120GB/SD. The only problem I've notest is that sometimes my wireless bluetooth mouse from Apple not working well. Moving the cursor on the screen is no problem but clicking the mouse on an object doesn't work then. I have to switch off the mouse for a short time and put it back on to resolve the problem. If it happens too many times then i use my older wired one. I bought this bluetooth mouse a few weeks ago and in Tiger I had no problem. But hey, Leopard is working like a fast train to me 🙂

So far, SOOOO good!

I don't regret it AT ALL. I have only had one minor hitch that I am confident will be fixed in 10.5.1. I have a printer shared on my network that is connected to a windows pc that I print to wirelessly from my MBP.

For some reason since I upgraded to Leopard, I get an error when adding that printer back to my list of printers. It can see the windows pc no problem and can see the shared printer no problem, and I have the drivers installed on both, but it still gives an error when attempting to add that printer. In the mean time, I just plug it directly in via USB when I have to print.

Minor annoyance, but not the end of the world by any means, and like I said, I am confident it will be fixed soon.

I don't really regret it, there are lots of cool things about it. This is my first real Mac os X upgrade. I got my first mac (a G4 Mac Mini) with Panther but had the Tiger upgrade with it so my experience with Panther was like a couple minutes. My impression of it at first was there isn't anything I can live without, but the more I use it the more I can tell they really changed allot of stuff, think its mostly under the hood. It just feels different. I think I am going to love this version, it really took me some time to get that feeling though.

I'm having really mixed feelings right now. Overall, I love the new features, and most basic apps seem to run well.

But I've seen a huge performance hit in apps like Logic Pro, it just doesn't use CPU well and runs far less plugins then on 10.4. Hopefully this is an issue specific to this one app that can be fixed and not something more global. Has anyone done benchmarks with other apps comparing 10.4 with 10.5 performance?

I don't regret it. I am always a little hesitant when it comes to upgrading to a new OS (especially a .0 version) but so far no issues. I did a clean install since I wanted to clean out the Mac anyway and haven't seen any performance problems.

I really like TimeMachine since I only did bi-annual back-ups 😱 and can now feel confident if I accidently deleted some of my por... err documents, I can recover them 😉

Leopard does not appear any fast on my MacBook Pro but it isn't sluggish either. The only program that I did not attempt to restore was Toast since it was a version behind and I rarely used it.

I am sorry you are having such a hard time. I have three iMacs and the installation on all of them went smooth with no issues at all. I have to say that it is going to get harder to maintain backwards capability with older machines and processors.

I have said all along that as nice as Leopard is it is an evolution of OSX not a revolution. There is much eye candy and little tweaks but nothing major that would make someone get really excited.

I think that OSX is it for the forseeable future and as thus you will see similar upgrades that have some new improvements but nothing that is earth shattering. As for other apps not working with Leopard that is NOT on Apple. I am an Apple developer and have had access to betas for a long time so there is no excuse for other app makers not to have Leopard ready software.

Frankly, anyone who upgrades a working environment on the day of a new Operating System release is a fool.

...I'm loving discovering the new features. ... It's the best upgrade I've experienced for many years, and it's one of the most polished new releases I've ever seen ...However, these kind of launch events don't happen too often, and they should be savoured!

Soooooo... are you a fool???

I guess I am a fool with a nice OS X 10.5 Tshirt!!! mmmm!

So far I've been very happy with Leopard. Of course there are bits of inexplicable weirdness, but then again Tiger had its own share of funkiness. I'm taking the good with the bad, and so far the good is far outweighing the bad.

Not at all! I've had a few minor problems (install issue on one MBP, mail prob on the other MBP). But all were easily overcome with a little research and the smarts of a few guys on this forum.

I LOVE spaces, keeps things more organized.
I also LOVE how everything is snappier, programs open faster, spotlight is tons faster, and things feel more stable.
Time Machine is great for my purposes. I used to use Bounce Back Pro, but TM does everything BB did & it will be a piece of software that :apple: will update as we go, so I'm going to stick with it.

Sure, Leopard has a few problems, but it looks and feels great to use. Apple is pretty good about giving due attention to things, and you can bet we will see several updates come out for pieces and parts of Leopard over the next month or two, but its a great OS, and I'm definitely glad I bought and installed it. No regrets here.

Probably, but not for this reason - I installed on my Macbook first to try it out. I'm happy enough to put it on my iMac as well now. However, these Macs are purely for pleasure rather than business 😀

I'm jealous about the t-shirt though! 😛

In a word. Nested folders. I have not bought it nor installed it, just used it at the Store and read too much about it. The Applications folder stack that shows you the Address Book icon, the Home folder, harddrive, or external drives that don't use their icons in the dock but instead the first subfolder, the drab unidentifiable folder icons - can they be modded to older more colorful icons?? and the LACK OF NESTED FOLDERS in the dock in favor of stack WITHOUT AT LEAST the option. I recently heard about FruitMenu which harks back to the OS 9 days and would solve some of this for me, but I won't upgrade the OS until that is made compatible as a solution and also till we see what 10.5.1 or .2 brings. Most everything else I look forward to. I use cleardock which is great, but the new dock doesn't bother me nearly as much as STACKS, lack of nested folders, and the new folder icons.

And no I don't want to use QS or Spotlight to launch or search.

while leopard installed fine on my G4 powerbook, it has crashed my new imac with the blue screen of death and i cant get the single user mode commands to work in fact now it is stuck there and wont move and when i dont power up in that mode it just takes me to a dark gray screen telling me to reboot, enless loop. im pissed. you should be able to install a frekain operating system without it freakin crashing the thing. now im afraid we are going to lose 9,000 photos on my girlfriends computer because she thought she had backed it up but she hasnt. 😡😡😡

Boot up off the original 10.4 restore disk that came with the machine, holding down the C key as you boot. That should give you access to the 10.4 installer as well as all the files which you can then back up to an external.

I'm not changing these spots for anything.

Installed fine and everything works fast and smooth on my MacBook and the iMac.

I've never ran out and bought a new OS, but for Leopard I made the exception (not literally mind). It's been great to have had time to fiddle with it over the past few days and get to know what will be the new norm on Macs. I think if you choose to try out a new OS you have to keep in mind that some things will not be perfect, yes...even from Apple, and that updates will be required. I think some people are guilty of having unrealistic expectations. There are of course some things that I'm not too fond of in Leopard....but there are also some things that I think are amazing!

I don't regret it one bit!
