I felt it took me a while to get to this mindset. Years ago, younger and careless I would smoke all the time with friends, not caring about missing class or wasting money..

However, now its a different story.

Did your username used to be HappyDude420? :D

Wow, wasn't going to chime in but what the heck.

Used to smoke BIG time. Started right after the (now called) beat era. Then the folk era, then the rock era. Hell, I've been a musician my whole life, smoking went with it. Inspiration we used to call it. And it was. Do a bowl and sit back with my axe or the keys and let it rip. Religious even.

But then I got introduced to some studio jazz players in NYC. Tried jamming with them and realized I couldn't play without being stoned and you can't be stoned to play with that kind of talent. So I decided try it straight and learn my keys and read charts. Jazz has been my method of getting stoned since.

God I've had some good weed in my time. And DON'T ask me about my Timothy Leary days! (Millbrook was a gas)

Interesting. Pot just always made me lethargic. I was way more creative on LSD.

The effects largely depend on the weed. Indica dominant strains will make you more lethargic but they're great for pain, anxiety and insomnia. Sativa dominant strains are more cerebral and energetic. If you're after creativity, Sativas or hybrids of the two are the way to go.

Or you know, so I've heard. http://upc.*************/uploads/smilies/dogeyes_s.gif

For a non-smoker, you're remarkably well-informed.

I have never but occasionally I think I would like to just once to see what the fuss is about. It'll probably never happen.

To me...it was all in the quality, like others here have more scientifically described.
There is THC and there is THC. Some cultivators that I knew many years ago (some of the first hybrids) would only distribute fresh and non-crushed buds. Don't want to crush those little bubbles. Oxidation is a drag, changes the THC. But, like everything else, what goes up must come down so it is lethargic after awhile.

Lysergics were the ultimate inspiration though...would spend a whole weekend non-stop recording. Just keep the tape running.

Yup....I much prefer smoking sativas as a "daytime" herb. The difference is pretty amazing actually. A good sativa such as super silver haze will leave you remarkably clear headed, energized and bristling with creativity with none of the lethargy associated with a strong indica herb.

The harvest time is critical also. even with an indica an earlier harvest will give you a more cerebral, heady high, but not as much as a full blown sativa.

A good, pure sativa is rare, and often will be more expensive than your regular herb.

Never tried it and hopefully never will

Why do you say hopefully? I mean, its a personal choice, and I respect that you may never want to do it, but its not inherently bad or anything.

Personally, I think its something a lot of people would benefit from trying. I don't think its something everybody should use often, as a lot of people can't be responsible about the habit, but it's definitely a view-changing experience that I will never regret. Even my non-smoking friends, who have tried it, don't regret doing it once.

I personally wouldn't ever want to get into anything like that.
I'm curious. What exactly do you mean by "anything like that"?
Everytime this topic comes up, I see huge amounts of prejudice and ignorance. It's important to realize that most of the "information" that common people have about marihuana is little more than baseless propaganda. I really think it's important to raise awareness of all the manipulation and deliberate misinformation that has been going on over the last century. I know tons of people who used to be very anti-weed, but adopted a whole different mindset after simply setting aside their prejudice and smoking up themselves.

True. Living here in Cali my folks really don't wanna see Prop 19 passed in November. They think Cali's freeways are gonna be filled with stoners not knowing how to drive and crime on the rise.

I've told them that when people are high, they normally don't wanna commit crimes; they just wanna grab a snickers bar form the liqour store, go home, watch a movie, listen to some music and go to sleep.

And with driving......I'm a superb driver when I'm high. I don't purposefully go out and drive right after getting high but have driven high and have done it with pure elegance.

However have seen novice people smoke weed and trip out when it comes to driving so yes, some people just aren't a good fit for getting behind the wheel or smoking pot in general.

But pot is harmless. It's fun, it's great. Besides, when push comes to shove and I have to decide between eating a BigMac meal from McDonalds or smoking weed, the BigMac meal is gonna do more damage to me...and doesn't make listening to music and playing Angry Birds as fun.:D

Drunks tend to think they're driving well too. Be careful, or better yet - stay home when you're high.

Even more true. A studpid friend last night drove a bit tipsy and hit the menu board at a jack in the box drive thru. He later puked all over inside his car beyond oblivion.

My best buddy and I cleaned the inside of the car for him, he was sooo wasted he couldnt stand up or get into his house..so we left him knocked out in the backseat of his car...where we later got a text at 6am from him saying the sunrise just woke him up and he had to get ready for work.

As for weed..

It's best to get high at the movie theater before watching Jackass 3D, than getting high before driving to the movie theater.

Yes, I do. Nearly every day. Though technically I am not always smoking it. I make a lovely cannabutter and I also vaporize. ;)

I much prefer cannabis to the slobbering, stumbling, belligerent, consequence-filled mess that is alcohol. When was the last time you heard of a stoner getting into a bar fight? Or driving 100mph like an arrogant psycho and killing an entire family? Or falling onto the street to vomit and make a fool of themselves while they destroy their liver? Etc, etc. I'm not saying weed is totally innocent but I find it shocking that it's illegal in most places while much more destructive substances are totally acceptable. Don't get me started though. Lets just say that after a lifetime of being dished BS propaganda I find that people who know the least about weed speak the most rubbish, the loudest. Maybe they're drunk. ;-)

I absoloutly 100% agree with this entire statement.
No recorded deaths as a DIRECT result of marijuana in all of human history, alcohol DIRECTLY kills thousands every year in the US alone.
If alcohol were illegal and weed was legal I suspect city centres would be a much more pleasent place on a friday and saturday night.

There are American Presidents who smoked more pot than I ever did (I only smoked a handful of times, although I tried to inhale), but I have to say that as I haven't smoked for several years, it would be a refreshing thing to do.

Crack is getting a bit boring. :D

I'm smoking pot right now.

As will I in an hour or so.
And to the "uber paranoid" who seem to think the DEA are going to track down all the people who posted in this thread and "bust them" think again, the sheer logistics involved in legally tracing you would rule such a thing out, believe me, even if they were inclined to do so, which they aren`t.

I and many other people regularly post on several very well known weed forums and we aren`t getting our doors knocked down :D
Anyway, the DEA would need a lot of luck, I`m in the UK :D

Though, there have been studies that people under the influence of weed are much better at driving than those under alchohol.

Still, you should not drive, its just common sense.

I`m certainly not advocating smoking and driving, that said I have driven thousands of miles stoned with no problems whatsoever, note that I said "stoned" not "totally wasted".
I am experienced enough to know when I`m too high to be behind the wheel and it certainly calms the road rage I occasionally get when some a**hole cuts me up.

There are other, more enjoyable and thoroughly awesome ways to lose brain cells.

Single malt scotch, for starters...

How can you say "more enjoyable" when you've never smoked before? Doesn't really give you proper evidence for an objective answer.

That's like saying that New Jersey is the worst state, and there are more enjoyable states to live in. Yet, having never even stepped foot in the state to make that decision for yourself.

I personally wouldn't ever want to get into anything like that.

why not?
