I'm quitting after I smoke the last cig in the pack at the left of the keyboard I'm typing on. Altho I'm going to the pharmacy today to buy some nicorettes -- if they sell them here. I wanted to quit a while ago and went and asked for the patch. Response: *condescending face* Uhh... No. (without even looking at me) And they stopped importing them 3 years ago because of low sales. So much for that.

If even nicotine gum isn't available, I'll stop smoking anyway and try not to... do something I'd likely regret later

As far as the wars between the suicide troop and the sometimes easily offended go... some people have the most uptight opinion. I'm talking about this whole social stigma that's been associated to just about all smokers. Doesn't matter if they only ever do it in their own room so as not to bother other people, if they care about the discomfort of others or not, or if they just sit down in the nonsmokers' section 3 feet near an asthmatic woman.

It's the result of their poor judgement, then fine. It might kill them, hey, it's their choice, no need to be all judgemental, or sometimes condescending (no, ReanimationLP, I actually think your friend's tee sounds kinda cool). All you have to do is make sure it doesn't affect you. Really. Go and tell them you'd rather not have to inhale all that smoke. I acknowledge that to a nonsmoker it isn't comfortable and you have every right to demand they not smoke near other people without asking first. If the issue is more delicate, like in Johnee's post, then that's another great time to speak up against that kind of thing. Assuming his post wasn't intended as a joke.

OK, enough of that, it's getting boring

do you smoke?

Hi.Another newbie here:) Wish to ask an ordinary question but so actual: do you smoke? and How does the smoking ban affect you? Just curious to know people's opinion on this.
Even I don't smoke(my husband smokes for 2 :D) I do like idea of ban and IMO it's an infringement on people's rights

I found public smoking to be an infringement of my rights, since I didn't chose to partake in that unhealthy activity. I'd rather not be forced into it thanks.

The bans been great for me. The only time I'm ever exposed to cigarette smoke now is waiting for the bus.

here we don't have ban and people are allowed to smoke almost everywhere. We have bars, restaurants for smokers and non-smokers.Organizations where smoking is allowed should pay fees

i don't and never will. Watched my Dad die of lung cancer at a young age b/c he started smoking when he was very young.

I hate smoke and hate being around it. I do understand it's an addiction for smokers although I can't totally empathize since I've never done it.

I do like the bans b/c non-smokers shouldn't be forced to intake that crap. If someone wants to do it, no problem..to each their own, but I don't want to put that junk in my lungs. I don't think there should ever be a full outright ban on smoking b/c it's an individual preference - in public places, full support for bans.

Here in Ontario, they either just passed or are going to pass a law where ppl can't smoke in their vehicles with kids present.

As a kid who used to beg my Mom and Dad to open the windows as well as bending over and almost laying on the floor to get away from it, I completely APPLAUD that law. It's not like kids have a choice if their parents light up in the vehicle and it's just ruining their bodies. Of course, the other part of that law is going to be hard for police to charge folks. They'd literally have to catch folks 'red handed'...or should i say yellow handed (always found that gross how folks let their hands get yellow from smoking....).

Cheers,
Keebler

Don't smoke.

Dated a couple of ladies who smoked. Felt like I was licking an ash tray when I kissed them. No thanks. Too many nice tasting ladies out there to choose from. :)

I smoke and I enjoy it.

I grow weary of do-gooders and nanny states telling me that it's bad for me. To quote Nick Naylor: "Education comes from our parents, not the side of a cigarette carton." If you feel the urge to inform me it's unhealthy, just be prepared for an unpleasant, barbed response.

We all make our choices in life, I've made mine. I don't particularly think it's healthy for people to sit in McDonald's a chug down a supersize meal, but I don't go up to them and lecture them on how they're clogging up not just their arteries but also hospital waiting lists. Heart disease and obesity are bigger killers than cancer.

People who bang on about smoking being 'disgusting' and 'a stupid habit' are no different in principle to the Catholic nutjobs (I say this as a Catholic) who launch crazy ad campaigns about abortion being a sin. If you don't like smoking, don't do it. Stop trying to tell the rest of us it's bad for us - we know it is and seeing as we're doing it, we don't really give a ****.

My dad smoked ~23 years ago. My brother was born, he stopped right there.
My uncle used to smoke until recently he had a heart attack. He stopped then.

I'm 14....so clearly I don't smoke. I don't want to ever smoke.

Oh no, not one of these threads.

No, I don't smoke cigarettes. I used to, I quit several years ago, now I find them useless and stinky. I don't mind if people smoke, that's their own business. I would prefer it not be done around me so I'm cool with the public indoor smoking ban. I apologize if that troubles anyone. We all have our preferences and all that. I think this about covers it.

I don't think others have a problem with smokers in general, the issue being smoking around people who don't want it.
That's where my stance comes from at least - do whatever you want in your own home. That's no skin off my nose.

Being fat doesn't stink for other people, and unless you sit on them you're unlikely to cause people around you harm.

.

I used to smoke three years ago, and quit when I was pregnant with my daughter. Since then I felt that was the best thing I could do for myself and my family. Now, I loathe the smell of cigarette smoke, especially when I either come out of a restaurant, or gym, when someone is smoking outside close to the businesses. I hate when my eyes water from the smell, and from the smoke, and I feel that my air is being unwillingly contaminated. I support the smoking bans, since I dislike smelling cigarette smoke while I eat, or do anything else.

I am so glad I quit, it was the best decision I have ever made

I enjoy a pipe smoke occasionally, as I said in another thread. I am, however, of the Bill Clinton school of smoking. It's more of a social thing three or four times a year.

Cigarettes, no - though I have occasionally shared a smoke with a lady (only when they ask) when out and about, after having a few too many drinks. I always regret it the next morning. Smoking that is, not the lady.

Marijuana - on the rare occasion. Once a year-ish.

both my parents smoke cigs. i can't stand it. gives me headaches.
so i've been privvy to plenty of second hand smoke. i have an air filter now though for my room. i won't ever smoke cigs. ever.

times change. everything changes.

i just quit smoking a month ago after smoking for half a year.

i smoke i drink im supposed to stop but i caint......i leave in 12 days for bootcamp. no cigs there so i have 3 months of cold turkey, unless I can get my hands on some copenhagen or skoal while I am there

No. I am curious about "e-cigarettes," especially the ones with no nicotine. Maybe if the flavours are nice..
